I didn't like last night's episode as much as the previous one. I just didn't find Desmond's backstory very interesting, even with the time travel. He's a very annoying character. I can't stand his nervousness all the time.

I'm too obsessed with the show not to watch but I was royally pissed off over that 3 month layoff. It was a very stupid idea to expect a show (Daybreak) to work for 13 weeks. I enjoy having a show air over an entire season with so many weeks off for reruns to let fans catch up that may have missed out. ABC shot itself in the foot, no doubt about it.

It might not be that. Most of the people I know who watch Lost are college/highschool kids and almost all of them never watch it on tv. They downloaded off of limewire or torrents or whatever. Heck most of last year I couldn't watch it on tv and had to wait till it was online to watch.

Last season was bad how they would show back-to-back episodes, then take 3 weeks off, a new episode, then 2 weeks off.
But the three month layoff was rough. It's good now because we get 14 straight weeks. They should've had a two hour episode last week and included everyone in the show. Some people might have been turned off that they went 3 months without Lost, then when it came back, they didn't see Lost, but saw "The Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Juliet Show."

Yeah but to have the lowest ratings in the second week back since a 3-month layoff doesn't bode well. I know a lot of people who lost interest in the show during the fall, maybe that number is rising.

If I remember correctly, last week's preview clearly stated what three mysteries would be answered. One of them, again, if I remember right, was why the Others took the children, and the answer today was "to give them a better life." Weak.
I thought the episode was pretty good, though. It wasn't as good as the first two episodes of the season, however.

I liked the episode too.
mystery 1. What Jack's tatoo says? Which was cool. But what does it mean?
mystery 2. I guess that Cindy and others "taken" are still alive and seem to be doing well.
mystery 3. I guess as Capt. Crunch said that they live on the island. But we sort of knew that because when the plane crash Ethan and Goodwin ran from where they were to where the plane crashed.
I guess the flashback was weak, but maybe there is more to it that we will see in the future. She said Jack was a leader but why did she seem scared of him?
The stuff on the island was all really good. Again, not as good as last week's epi, but still alltogether good.

The tattoos to meant two things to me
Jack walks with the "others" but he is one one of them
or
Jack walks with the plane crash victims, however, he isn't one of them. Maybe that time traveling thing ties in.
The episode was ok, but seriously, get back to the survivors. Remember Sayid, Jin, Sun, Locke etc?
The flashback was real weak, all it did was explain Jack's tattoo. They should've related it to his father or (ex)-wife.

I agree with the general consensus. Wish more was accomplished, and the flashbacks sucked.
These flashbacks didn't really accomplish much, or flesh out anything deep about the character, just the origin of the tattoo.
The origin of the tattoo is not ironic in any way that we can see from these flashbacks, which waters down its overall impact. The only thing of any value to me, is what it says and what it might lead to, but who knows when that comes to fruition. I am just eager to get back to Kate and Sawyer rejoining everyone and then moving on in the battle to get Jack back, and the discovery of what Juliets deal is.

I don't think they have too many people to cover just that they are focusing too much on certain characters WHILE adding characters to lead roles (Ben, Juliet both who I like).
I mean, we haven't seen Sayid, Jin or Locke in ages. And those are some of the best characters.

Exactly, we haven't seen a lot of characters. And once we start focusing back on them, we'll lose contact with other characters. There are too many people on the show. The way the show is set up, we can't deal with both groups at once.

Don't tell the audience in the previews (before last week's) that "the answers we have all been waiting for" and not really answer them.
The clip of Kate talking about a rescue mission for Jack lead me to believe that her and Sawyer would grab some of the other characters and go get Jack, but instead we spend a whole episode on where Jack got his tatoos. The tatoo mystery was not something that Lost fans were clamoring for.
I'd like to see the show be more like 24 or Heroes. Pose questions, answer them quickly and move on to more questions.
Heroes started out this season like Lost (very slow plot advancements and I thought we'd be spending 5 years until they got to the cheerleader) and was ready to jump ship, but they have come out of the gate swinging since it started up again.
Apparently, tonight there will be no Jack or Others, just the regulars on the island.
And a Hurley flashback.
Jack-haters will probably like......me, on the other hand, not feeling overly confident about it. But I will be tuning in, and will stick it out regardless. I've come this far, no need to give up now.
But, I do agree with YankeesAZ. Don't promise or hype something that you can't follow through with. This whole, "if you don't watch, you won't know what everyone is talking about in the morning" crap better have a good payoff.

It appears that LOST is about to take a stop, in the Twilight Zone. Several insiders (who have provided "spoiler" information for previous episodes) are claiming that the oddly shaped character of Hurley will be revealed to be "the son of the Island" in tonight's episode, with beach/embryo flashbacks, a connection to an alien super-race and a particularly odd flashback showing Hurley to be a time travelling "Earther" who goes back in time to impregnate a "sea creature", who is presumably his own (real) mother

They tend to forget about certain characters. They will go a few episodes without showing character X.
Also, there are a ton of questions about the show that are rather old that don't get addressed, but they keep adding them.
The 3 month break is probably the main reason for complaints. The season ended in May, picked up in October, ran for 6 weeks, then picked up in February. It was somewhat hard.

I have literally never seen an episode of this show, but am thinking abuot renting it on DVD.
Can someone, without giving away too much, explain what is weaker about this season as opposed to the others?
Is the writing just bad? Are they not revealing any twists?
Why is there so many complaints about this year?
The first few seasons were full of discovery. You started with survivors of a plane crash and discovered the weird things that linked them together, discovered the numbers, the hatch, the others. It was all very fascinating.
This year, we've been bogged down in a soap opera involving only a very limited number of characters, and have really neither discovered much that's new nor resolved the lingering mysteries from seasons one and two.

That seems plausible.
I checked with google earth, and using the coordinates 4°8′15″N, 16°23′42″W it would put the island in the sea about 100 (complete guess) miles off the coast of Sierra Leone and Liberia. Which, if the pilots flew from Sydney to LA going over Africa, but I don't think they do.

Wasn't this show supposed to go 4-5 seasons to begin with? So next season is either the last or second to last, right?
I think a lot of the main characters are going to start dying at the end, and have one survivor with that person being like "the chosen one" or something.

We don't know everything that happened between Kate and Ben at that little breakfast perhaps he made a deal with her, like he did with Juliet and Michael. He said it would be a "hard two weeks". Or something like that.

Locke usually acts pretty selfishly, I am not sure he wants to get off the island or cares if anyone else does.

Hard to say without actually seeing the episode, but I would be surprised if Jack was an Other. Sounds like the writers just did a great fake out. Time will tell. Should be really interesting where this goes.

I think this might just break down to a blond vs brunette argument. Guys that prefer blonds barely budge.

I actually perfer brunettes. I don't think Julliet is great looking or anything, but I think she is better looking than Kate.

That's what I was guessing, either him or his wife. It's gonna be someone minor.

The guy who hired Juliet being on the island was interesting. I knew he was with them, but thought he was still in the US and bought Juliet to them.
I always thought Locke was in the wheelchair due to an accident so his being pushed out a window instead was a surprise.
I really liked the end. When I saw the father I thought Ben bought him there recently in order to give Locke some closure and to befriend him.

Nooo!! Not Xerxes!!
Wait...the annoying guy on the island with the beard and hot wife played the homoerotic king in 300??
On another note...
Juliet = prettier
Kate = sexier
Plus Juliet was in one of the hottest scenes in movie history.

Guess I was wrong about Jack being an Other. I suppose that could be revisited later on, but it seems he was just trying to get off the island.

Locke's dad is definitely the real Sawyer.
Juliet > Kate, no doubt
Penny > Juliet and Kate
Anyways.....I have to imagine that Locke's dad is somehow connected to Sawyer, whether it's Yankeeah prediction that he is indeed the real Sawyer, or he's responsible for killing Sawyer's parents. The two con-men have to be connected somehow.
Yankeeah is right. I'm guessing Locke is gonna let his father go and then Sawyer is gonna kill him.

Yes....

So when did they get Locke's dad? Was it more than two weeks ago, or was Ben lying when he said that they couldn't communicate with the outside world and therefore could not come back to the island after the hatch exploded?
I also think Sawyer and Locke's dad are tied to each other somehow and Ben knows about it.

Remember when we thought that Locke's dad could be Hanso? I guess that could still be true.

Remember the episode when Hurley was in his accountant's office and he saw someone falling outside of the window? That must've been Locke!!
I wonder if they plan this in advance, or they think of it after the fact.
