Hello Everyone! I figured since there probably will not be a webcam view of the new stadium progress or even online picture updates we should go ahead and do it on our own. I'm going to take the first step and did today by taking a bunch of pictures not only of the new stadium progress but Hideki Matsui taking some BP. Anyone and everyone is welcome to contribute pictures of the new stadium as frequently as possible so we can have a nice track and can see the entire thing go up right on front of our eyes almost. I will take pictures during every homestand (1 set of pictures per homestand as taking pictures every game will be redundant).
PS: Any comments, suggestions, and feedback is most definitely appreciated. I will provide the next update in this same thread during the weekend of the Red Sox series. Lets keep the thread going! :D

Thank you so very much. When they remodeled the stadium I would drive by every so often. Living in California it's a long drive. Thanks again.

I cant believe how fast the progress of the stadium is coming along. There was nothing but an empty lot and within hours the stadium was built and players were taking batting practice. Amazing.

I used to have seats in U4, but now I'm in 641. The Matsui guys in U6 used to cheer for Matsui wearing buck teeth and slanty-eyed glasses. The main guy even wore a WWII Japanese piot cap and kimono from time to time. I can only guess that the Yankees threw them out.

This is a great idea. I can't imagine how many pictures there will be by the time the stadium is completed. Something the Yankees themselves should consider doing is putting up a 24hr webcam. Of course, I'm certain they would charge a fee for access to it. ;)

Great shots!!! :D
I never realized this up until now, but if you look at the middle-to-left top of picture # 7, you will see a chunk of elevated subway that comes out from the 4 train and seemingly goes nowhere.
[img=http://thumb5.webshots.com/t/14/14/2/55/43/2444255430096478285GRViyc_th.jpg] (http://community.webshots.com/photo/2444255430096478285GRViyc)
That is the last surviving piece of the elevated track that used to shoot down into Manhattan and become the "9th Avenue El". In one of the stupidest moves the MTA ever made, they tore down the elevated tracks BEFORE building the underground "replacement" tracks, as they had done with every other line in Manhattan (yes, they USED to all be ELEVATED!).
I wonder of the Yankees will leave that up for history's sake, or finally tear it down. As a NYC Subway buff, I hope it remains in one form or another!

PS - it's 2006 and we're STILL waiting for the "9th Avenue Line" to replace the old El. Now THAT'S progress!

I found a really cool site called Forgotten-NY.com, and they have a whole page on the old Ninth Avenue El, with the surviving remnants (including the little off-shoot) and some other "hidden" oddities:

Forgotten-NY.com is a fantastic site if you are in to New York history (as I am) but be warned: you got to have time to waste to go there...LOL!
I once made the mistake of browsing in there at 9PM at night...I finally tore myself away from the computer at 4:00 in the morning!!!

I'm not a Yankee fan, but it really bothers me too.
Think of all the World Championships that were won right at that place. Nine times they walked away from the final game winners of the World Series. Six times Yankee fans were there watching the AL Pennants being won. One being the last AL Pennant that I don't like to remember happening back in 03' :(

Unless someone is taking an eraser to the Baseball Almanac, the history isn't going anywhere. It's just getting nicer digs across the street.
Come on folks, this is NOT a funeral - it's a reincarnation. The 1970's renovation sucked all the life and grandure out of Yankee Stadium. The field has been changed hundreds of times. The team makes the history - not the GPS coordinates.
I'm starting to wonder if there are any people put there who think the Highlanders should have stayed at Hilltop Park! ;)
The new shots are gettin' me antsy - I was starting to believe this would never get done in MY lifetime! I'm sad that my Dad didn't live long enough to see this...we used to talk about it a lot when it was just an idea being thrown around. He was never a big fan of the 70s renovation, I think he would have liked this!

I heard that they (whoever they are) are leaving the stadium there, but hacking off the upper deck and the loge levels, leaving just the lower bowl..... Why? I don't know.

The upper decks need supports that have to be maintained, they put stress and strain on the frame of the stadium... which is why they're building a new one i think.
So you cut off the top, keep the stress down, maintainence is easy -- and you get to keep the field.

I believe they are. From what I can make out of the renderings, it will be somewhere in the CF area, below the restaurant whose windows will serve as the batter's eye.

My personal feeling is they are doing that to try and satiate the "this is the worst thing to ever happen in the history of baseball" crowd, even though nothing is ever going to make them happy.
Part of the plan is to use the field for sandlot and high school games, which would be pretty cool.

Nice...it's Like I Was There!
I just took a bunch of photos of the construction site on Sunday (at "halftime" of the second doubleheader).
Just to be different, I took all of them from ground level while walking around the site, climbing on light poles to see over fences, sticking my lens through gaps, etc.
I'll have all of them up very soon.

Hmmm ... well, I go to tons of games, and I live close enough to pop in during the winter, so maybe ...
I kinda think the best way would be to pick a specific spot on the 4 train platform (like BBombers85 seems to have done) and shoot westward. That would give the most complete view, and probably would be easiest to replicate.
We could come up with a "standard" shooting angle, too, one that used some landmark as a guide; however, even if each shot were slightly different, that could be corrected with cropping.
If we standardized it enough, then multiple shooters could do it, and we'd have a smoother animation.
By the way, since this thread is all about photos, can someone tell me why I can't seem to get photos to show up in my posts?
I put a few of my set up last night to give people a taste, and they showed up for a minute or so, but then turned into red X's. I tried using smaller and smaller versions, but it didn't help.

My bad, I realize now that BBomber was shooting from the ramps and/or decks of the current Stadium. Great vantage point, but the obvious problem for an animation is that these area won't be open to the public in the offseason. The subway platform will.

Hey GREAT PICTURES!!! They're nice. What kind of camera do you have? You're resolution is amazing. Also, I do take pictures from the elevator deck in left field, which gives you the best birds-eye view of the whole place. Props for your pics though :D

Thanks to you (and others here) for the compliments.
The camera, which I am absolutely bonkers over, is the Canon PowerShot SD 630 Digital Elph. (The one seen in the TV ad with Maria Sharapova being chased by hundreds of tennis balls.)
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=12956
I've had it for a few months, and so far it's been amazing. 6.0 megapixels, 3.0 optical zoom, 12x digital zoom. Uses SD memory cards.
Fits in a pocket but the display screen on the back is huge for its overall size, so it serves as its own slideshow projector. Go to a party, take photos, turn it around and show everybody how goofy they look. Short videos, too. So it's an ideal snapshot camera.
But as you can see, it also does pretty well with more serious stuff. That big screen helps you frame shots when, let's say, you're sticking your lens into odd places and you can't get your eye near it. Up to 800 ISO, lots of shooting modes, onboard color modes ... mucho fun.
Also, I do take pictures from the elevator deck in left field, which gives you the best birds-eye view of the whole place.
BTW, I love that left-field deck area (aka the former semi-legal smoking lounge), for photos or just taking in the view. During rain delays or pre-game doldrums I often roam around there.
You can watch the game, the neighborhood, and various goings-on in odd corners of the Stadium, like the bullpens, Monument Park, and the little work enclosures where the ambulance, beer kegs, pallets, and various other stuff is staged.
OK, I took more photos on Oct. 5, and a larger batch Oct. 16.
Here are the Oct. 5 photos. Click on the photo below.

You can see that some large posts were being driven into the ground by a pile driver, but the site was mostly still just a big, scraped dirt plot. (I threw in a few pix from the ALDS games, too.)
Now here's the batch I took on the afternoon of October 16.
http://thumb0.webshots.net/t/57/57/7/52/71/2731752710097197520akqXEL_th.jpg (http://sports.webshots.com/album/555686422XuxKqe)
You can see more progress on the pile-driving front, plus they seemed to be putting in a big foundation bathtub wall along the south side of the lot (the side closest to the old Stadium). They had also covered the bottom of the pit with crushed rock.
I threw in a few photos from around the old Stadium, too. There was an informal memorial to Cory Lidle, who died not long before.
This was shortly after we were eliminated, and the Stadium staff was doing some maintenance at the old Stadium to prepare for the winter. You can see a pile of sod from the field lying sadly outside the gates. I took some home and planted it in my apartment building's backyard -- of course.
Just in case anybody didn't notice, and cares, please note that I posted two different batches of photos today. The Oct. 16 batch went up a little later, so you might have missed it. See above.
I'll also be shooting a new batch soon. I imagine they've done a bit of work in the last month!
OK, carry on.

Great pictures - again! Hard to believe that there's been more progress on the New Yankee Stadium in three months than there has been on Ground Zero in five years.
The Cory Lidle pictures were sad...still hard to believe.
You were at that horrific ALDS Game 2 as well, huh? Sorry to hear that. The only highlights of my day on that sunny afternoon were not being in work, Damon's HR (which landed about 10 feet from me) and the wonderful sweet Premio sausage sandwich that I thankfully ate BEFORE things went to hell in a handbasket.
Thanks for the pics! I can't wait to see more pics as it progresses. :)

I had no clue that the 'old' Yankee Stadium is right beside the construction site. When I was there in August (in NYC day of groundbreaking) I thought that the stadium was being built a good 20 minute walk from the current Yankee Stadium. Judging from those pictures it looks fairly close.

Owned by Cablevision, what do you think?
Here’s another batch of construction photos, taken this weekend (Dec. 12, 2006). They’ve actually been online at webshots.com for a couple of days while I futzed with them, and I see some of you have checked them out already!
http://sports.webshots.com/album/556491612mDwScW
I linked to the “whole album” view this time. You can click on the first one and then click "next" to look at the next one, etc., which might be best, because I put titles and brief captions on many of them that you might want to take time to read. You can still see it as a slideshow by clicking the little slideshow icon in the list at top right.
Sorry, there’s not as much light as usual – winter solstice, ya know.
Forgive me, it’s been a while since my last confession … uh, I mean, since my last batch, in mid-October, so they’ve made some noticeable progress.
Below are some of my rude guesses as to what’s visible in these pix – any construction people out there, please feel free to tell us what this stuff really is.
--FIRST COLUMN: In the first photos you’ll see, that looks like a ceremonial “first beam” or “first column” with an American eagle flag on top. It’s somewhere behind where home plate will be, near the southwest corner of the site.
--THE CURVE: Most interesting to me, a large structure is now rising that looks like a building (rather than foundation, excavation, etc.) It has a curve to it, kind of, and it’s near the southwest corner, about where the stadium will sweep around behind home plate, I think. I call it “The Curve.” It looks like reinforced concrete. You can see the rebar in grids inside it. I’m guessing it’s the part of the building that will include the field-level tunnel, concessions, entries, etc., behind home plate. But I’m not sure, because it looks like it’s sorta set into the ground – the ground behind it seems to be flush with its top – so maybe it’s just the foundation for the part of the building behind home plate. They’re digging down even deeper right in front of it, too. I wonder if that’s for infield drainage.
--THE SLAB: Along the eastern half of the south edge of the site (very close to the old Stadium, the big street intersection and the subway stations), another large structure is in place, though it’s much lower to the surrounding ground. It looks like it could be just the foundation and lowest layers of the building along the right-field foul line. I call it “The Slab.” It’s bounded on the south side (along 161st Street) by that wall you saw in previous batches – that was really just the south edge of The Slab – and on the north side it also has a few feet of elevation above the raw dirt, with some big angles in it. It seems to be topped with coarse stone, though it’s hard to tell.
--THE TANKS: Some big green tanks are now in place near The Curve and The Slab. They say “Foam Concrete” on them, so I guess they’ve been pumping concrete into molds for The Curve and The Slab. I call them – that’s right – “The Tanks.”
--THE POLES: Lots more of those big hollow metal posts have been driven into the ground all over the site by the busy pile-drivers. Most of them stick out of the ground only a few feet, but a couple of groupings of them were stickingg waaaaaaaaay up in the air, I think roughly around where the right-field foul pole area will be. I dunno, maybe they’re going to be supports for the right field upper deck, or more likely they’re just waiting to be driven in deeper like the rest. OK, uhhh … “The Poles.”
--THE PLATFORMS: Something that looks like a large temporary wooden platform with a smaller wooden platform on top is now sitting in the middle of the west side of the site. “The Platforms” looks like it could be a big reviewing stand for some sort of ceremony, though I thought they got all that over with months ago. I’m really clueless as to what this is.
--THE WESTERN WALL: It looks like the contractors may be responding to complaints about dust drifting off the site (as referenced in the news stories above). The wood and tarpaulin barricades along the western edge of the site near some apartments (“The Western Wall”) seem to have been enlarged and made tighter (with fewer gaps), and workers seem to be sweeping the edges and entries to the site where the dump trucks were stirring up dust. In addition, it looks like one of the entrances, very close to the apartments on Jerome Avenue, has been closed off. It was a weekend, though, so maybe they just didn’t need it that day.
--THE DISCLAIMER: Again, all the above are just my uneducated guesses. Anyone else who knows anything more, or better, about the current state of the digs, you can comment here, or there’s also a feature on the webshots site where I think you can comment directly below each photo.

Nah.. that green tank thing fills concrete into the piles (the poles).. those piles are hollow and are stacked on top of one another till it reaches the bedrock, and the green thing then fills it all up with concrete- it's a big part of the foundation.. there was a lesson on it on Yankees Magazine on YES last week.
My guess is the curve thing is part of the basement, the area below the stadium where the clubhouses and storage will be.. thats my guess at least

no clue lol.. I know they said there was an area where they tested the weight of girders and piles to make sure they are strong enough, but I am not sure if the platform is that.. I'm no construction expert... just following the stadium construction closely and tryin to learn something along the way.

======
First of all, it's just a representation. At full size, it may appear different. Secondly, US Cellular, in person has a poor, but recognizable resemblance to parts of YS now, so a comparison is not as outlandish as you think.
BTW, US Cellular is about as vanilla as a stadium can be, albeit comfortable and easy to move around in. Bland might be a compliment.
OK, kids, here's a new batch of photos from yesterday, Jan. 31. (Brrr, my fingers are still cold!)
The biggest change is that the big concrete superstructure behind home plate has been growing up and also growing out along the first base line.

By the way, you may have noticed that I originally fouled up some of the directions. That's what I get for posting at 3:40 a.m.
Just to clarify, most of the new superstructure is along the FIRST-base line, and out into the RIGHT-field area, though I assume similar things will soon stretch down the third-base line into left field.

Thanks, those are cool, and I hadn't seen some of them before.
Looking at the drawings of those huge square columns around the exterior, I think I caught the bases for them going in. There are big square concrete things set into the Slab and near the Runway; they look like they could end up being those columns.
Also, if you look on this page on the official Yankee website, there are also more photo galleries, including three pretty good ones with official photos of the construction site.
http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/nyy/ballpark/new_stadium_community.jsp
Some of them are pretty cool, and they're taken from angles I can't get during the winter, or at all: from on top of the old stadium, and from inside the construction site.
The page also has updated info on the progress of construction.
Squid, thanks for doing this. It's really nice to watch the progress and realize just how much actually goes into building something like that.
Btw, I liked the :NY: flag on the crane. :)

Why thank you. I'm almost as much of a subway nut as I am a Yankee nut.
So, do you know what's going to happen with the stub of the old el spur that still juts off the #4 line, the one that used to run over to the Polo Grounds? You know the one I mean. It's visible in some of my photos.
I assume it will be torn down, since it sticks right into the northeastern corner of the construction site. That would be a shame.
Wouldn't it be cool if some remnant of the track that once allowed the original Subway Series, their first one the Yanks won, in the first year in the original Yankee Stadium, were to be preserved as part of the new Yankee Stadium?
You know, now that I think about it, maybe they will keep some of it. Sometimes they leave little bits of old lines in place because tearing them off would weaken the surviving lines. I hope so.

If you go back to page one of this thread, you will see where I pose that very question (as well as getting into the history of "the stub").
It doesn't seem likely it will be kept (I love the fact that from the street you can still see the original track remnants...), unfortunately. I woild love to see them integrate it into the design and mark it as a piece of subway / baseball history, but the logical side of me doesn't think they will.
Maybe when they rip it down, we can go grab a rail or a plank....! :D

Ya know, this is a good question, which I haven't seen answered.
From looking at the artists renderings here:
http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/nyy/ballpark/new_stadium.jsp
it looks like the #4 train might be visible through a gap between the scoreboard and the right field grandstand -- roughly equivalent to the place where it's visible in the current Stadium.
But it's hard to tell for sure.
OK, as if I haven't wasted enough of your time already today, here are three very short YouTube VIDEOS of construction I took yesterday. All have sound (mostly assorted clanks and vehicles grunting) and all are safe for work:
1) About 30 seconds, shows the superstructure behind home plate and up the first-base line:

2) About 17 seconds, shows workers spreading concrete, plus a backhoe and a dump truck in action:

If it was to be torn down, wouldn't it have been done before the constuction started? This way the workers would have more room.
If it was to be torn down, wouldn't it have been done before the constuction started? This way the workers would have more room.
Good point. And by now, they've scraped and cleared everything else on the site, so its survival is even more promising.
I'm just guessing here, but I also think the Yankees would have needed to get a specific additional approval to tear it down. Everything else they removed (basically the park that was there, with the running track and soccer field) was owned and run through the Parks Department, I think, while presumably the MTA still has a right-of-way allowing that stub to be there.
Ya know, I think I should stop speculating about this and try to find out.

I will not get used to the idea of a "New" Yankee Stadium until well after it is built.
Nice pics. It looks like the big concrete superstructure has crept out a little more down the first-base line, and I think I see it starting to spread down the third-base line the same way.

Ok another question:
Does anyone know how i can get into the exact construction site (where there doing the work), will i need like a permit or like will i need permission from the front office..
Also for anyone that has been there, what time do the construction workers go home? Do they stay until the night or like after or before 5 o' clock in the afternoon? if anyone can approximate or know for sure, i would truly appreciate it
thanks ^^^

I'm not sure about the second question, since I'm gone before the daylight runs out. I suspect they quit whenever it gets dark, because I don't see any extensive lighting that would let them work at night.
As to the first, I think you'd at least need permission from the front office to get on site, or perhaps the construction people there would let you in.
But frankly, I doubt that either will happen.
I'm not going to get too into this now, because I don't want to stir the pot, but on my last trip there, two different guards on the perimeter told me that their boss (not The Boss, but their boss) didn't want people taking photos. I politely informed both of them that their boss had no authority to stop me from taking photos while standing on public sidewalks, and I kept shooting.
I wouldn't be expecting an invite onto the site anytime soon, though.

I can't really help you either. I find it hard to believe that access is easily granted to that construction site. I snapped the pictures from the Manhattan-bound subway stop. As the pictures show, no one was working on a frigid President's Day afternoon.

they can't close it off, since thats where monument park and the restaurant is. They can make it non-alchoholic the same way the two sections in Tier Reserved (I think 13 and 14?) are kept non-alchoholic now.. guards making sure no one goes down the aisle way with beer. In this picture, if you look closely, it seems like its connected, its going to have to be. Plus im sure there will be other amenities below the scoreboard area for everyone.

Great shots!!!
I never realized this up until now, but if you look at the middle-to-left top of picture # 7, you will see a chunk of elevated subway that comes out from the 4 train and seemingly goes nowhere.
[img=http://thumb5.webshots.com/t/14/14/2/55/43/2444255430096478285GRViyc_th.jpg]

I'm glad to see the El stub preserved; I hope that really is going to happen.
I also like that this YES video shows two "peepthroughs" where we'll be able to see the 4 train go by. One appears to be roughly equivalent to the gap in right field in the current Stadium, and one is in left field, through which we'll get a view of the 4 farther away as it moves north of the Stadium.

Thanks so much for all the updates this offseason. I can't wait to join you in putting up pictures once the season starts. Its exciting seeing the progress.
OK, here's the new batch of photos, taken Wednesday afternoon:
http://sports.webshots.com/album/558300753BxsDnA
You'll see that the curve of the grandstand areas is now much longer and taller, now stretching well around into the right field foul pole area on one side and well down the third base line on the other side. They are pouring cement lower to the ground in the center field area, too.
The infield area is still mostly empty, as you'd expect. They do have a lot of rebar there, though that might be just a staging area for its use elsewhere.
The first 24 photos are of the new construction; after that I got a little silly and took some "spring is coming" type photos around the old Stadium and the neighborhood.
Enjoy!
P.S., I'll be putting up a few short videos of construction crews puttering around, very soon.

Well, opening day you can guarantee with a the C season ticket plan.. but I would kind of recommend you all getting a season ticket plan anyway, since 2008 and 2009, it is going to be IMPOSSIBLE to get tickets... plan E is like 80 bucks for tier reserved anyway, and less for bleachers... the final game at the current stadium is going to be hard, since it is probably going to be a playoff/World Series game, so ya never know... regular season.. if its a Saturday or Sunday... season tickets =) you could even sell every other game in the plan so it wouldn't be that much... the price of the partial season ticket plan will probably be as much as the ticket for the individual game will be going for on eBay and those other sites...
What I am wondering is how you get All Star Game and homerun derby seats... hopefully season ticket plans will offer a presale for those...
How difficult is THAT opening day ticket going to be?
You might have to win some kind of contest or something.

To be honest, the one thing that scares me about the new stadium is that the Yankees term all season ticket plans as "revokable licenses" and I hope this is not to pave the way for PSL's in the near future. No New York team has taken that path YET, and I hope it continues to stay that way. I don't think I can afford to pay a huge fee to buy tickets when they cost so much to begin with.

Yeah - we have been really lucky with the Sunday plan in that we get opening day as well. I am wondering if they will take that away from us :(. The best thing about that plan, if it stays as is, would be that we would get to be at the last game in the old stadium and first in the new one.

I switched to it from the flex plan after getting burned for both opening day and old-timers day last year. It really works perfectly for my schedule and it's easy to get weeknight tickets to supplement it.

At first, I was excited about the prospects of New Yankee Stadium. But, when looking at the renderings, I thought to myself: "This looks very similar to New Comiskey Par... wait a minute, this IS New Comiskey Park!" I am afraid that the new stadium is going to be too cavernous, less electric due to the design. In Chicago, they replaced two intimate, raucous stadiums (Comiskey and Chicago Stadium), with two bland, dull behemoths (US Cellular and the United Center) which suck the crowd noise right out due to its expansive design. I just hope that New Yankee Stadium doesn't turn out that way.

You're right, it does look like comiskey, but I am trying to not make any judgements now, I mean, we are judging this by an artist's rendition, this is not necessarily 100% accurate, there may be some minor nuances missing that makes it different. I just want to wait until im standing in the new ballpark in 2009 before I make any judgements.

Sorry, they are kinda old -- May 22, during the Red Sox series -- but they do show the most interesting thing going on right now: installation of the seating areas. They are putting in big beams on a slant, radiating up and out from the field, and covering them with metal plates, staggered to create the stagger needed for rows of seating. Behind that, all the way around, the same beam-and-plate construction turns into a flat area that I assume will be part of the field-level concourse, with concessions, etc.
They have also been building a large area of criss-cross concrete walls, kinda like a honeycomb, outside the main superstructure. I think this will be the base for the big walkway around the outside of the stadium.
Since I took these photos, they have added more of the big rusty-red beams, heading up into what looks like an upper deck. I'll be at the day game Thursday, so I hope to put up some more photos of that stuff by the end of the week.

Sweet thanks for the update!
I've put up another batch, from June 16 (after the Saturday game vs. the Mets).
Apologies, a few of the photos aren't yet rotated properly -- so tilt your head to the left! It's only a few of them. Long story. I should have that fixed soon.
Anyway, the most significant development is the growth of the upper deck, built with big metal beams over the reinforced concrete superstructure. There's also progress on the lower deck seating areas, and a middle (loge?) level is also taking shape.
NOTE: All these photos have titles and captions in which I make half-baked attempts to explain what you are seeing. If you want to see these, do NOT use the slide show feature, just click through the photos, one at a time.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but did anyone else notice in the renderings of the new Stadium, on the sign that always displays the upcoming game and time (which apparently will be replicated in the new Stadium), that it says "OPENING DAY - Royals vs. Yankees" on it? While I'd imagine this is just "suggestive" (as they would say), I wouldn't be shocked if MLB has already planned out who the Yankees will face in their home opener in 2009. I found it odd that they'd put another team's name in there though.

My guess is that steel is not for the upper deck, but for the suites/press box... especially considering how low down the steel begins.. take a look at this cross section, see if you guys agree.. I know the picture is small, if you hold down the control key and use the mouse scroll wheel away from you, it will zoom in

I'm reallyyyy hoping its going to be vs Boston, since they opened the original Yankee Stadium back in 23... it would be kinda sweet if the first HR in that stadium is off of Matzuzaka, or Schilling if he's still pitching... although would be horrible if Ortiz or Manny hit the first one...
Yankeesrule, I see your point, but for now I'm sticking with my upper-deck guess.
If you look at the illustration, you'll see the two-level concrete superstructure -- by now almost complete -- being part of an open plan that contains the concourses and supports the seating decks. The suites and press boxes are nested in the front of the second level of that concrete part, along with the "lower upper deck," perhaps the equivalent of today's Tier Boxes.
The "upper upper deck," in the illustration, is the only thing that's ABOVE the concrete part, and that's where the steel is going up now. I will say that the steel now in place looks different from the upper-deck supports in the illustration, which look more like giant upside-down chevrons.
As for the new steel looking like it's pretty low to the ground, I think that may in part be an optical illusion, because the future playing surface looks like it might be sunk down a ways below street level.
As a Tier-behind-home-plate guy, I also am slightly encouraged by the illustration above. The field seats behind home plate look VERY close to the plate, so maybe the upper levels, despite lacking the current drastic overhang, will actually be pretty close to the action as well.

I saw what you are talking about, the first game has to be against Boston, not against KC, wtf? Cluless Bud are you kidding!?

I think I got it... the home opener in 2006 (the year these illustrations were made) was vs. Kansas City, so that was the easiest team to choose for an Opening Day bulletin board. I wouldn't be surprised that when these renderings were made, thats exactly what the Yankee bulletin board had, so they just copied.
If anybody wants to see more pictures of the stadium in progress, check this site (its a messageboard thread just like this one, go to the last page in the thread for the most recent pictures): http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=202883

I'd love for the opener to be against a crappy team so that we can beat up on them and everyone can feel good

Ah - makes sense. I always sort of thought it'd be against Boston (I'm sure most people have that same thought), so seeing "Royals vs. Yankees" on there was quite odd.

Thank you. And while this isn't terribly important, I would just like to point out that THOSE ARE MY PHOTOS!
Someone took my whole last batch shortly after I put them on Webshots.com (but before I had edited out the blurry ones, written captions, etc.), then posted them all directly to that thread. Hell, I can't even manage to do that! It would be fun to plop one or two full-sized ones in this thread when they show something important.
By the way, can someone tell me how that's done, I mean successfully? I've tried posting them as images, using the individual links on Webshots, but they show up as the dreaded Little Red X's.
EDIT: Now I see that they've posted my construction photos from other batches, too, along with some by other shooters.
Well, they did give me credit further back in the thread. Our empire grows.
Gratuitous link to a photo of new high-level steel behind home plate, so I can see if the large preview size works:

The photo is also a link, so you can click on it to start viewing my June 16 batch (the one I already described above), if you haven't seen it yet.

Haha... I like how you are the world's main source for progress on the billion dollar Yankee Stadium, you should start a blog with ads and get some revenues from it and call it "The Official Site of New Yankee Stadium" until Randy Levine calls you up and makes you take it down.. hehe

Unfortunately it's the only Yankee related thing making progress this year.

As someone who has watched it go up little by little, very steadily, for nearly a year, I'm also amazed.
I will say this, though: Sometimes the "little" things in construction -- the installation of seats, the painting, the finishing of surfaces, the testing of electronics -- take MORE time than one would expect, and makes a project take a lot of time.
I suspect that by the end of this season, or at least by the winter, it will look pretty much like a baseball stadium that just needs a bunch of stuff screwed onto it, and then we'll see a lot of those finishing touches going in for a long while.

All very true. The finishing touches will probably take more time on the building schedule. I'll admit, I was pretty well bummed when the new stadium was announced. I know I'll probably even shed some tears when they start demolishing the "old" stadium. So much history and so many stories took place in that stadium. But, I am excited to see the new stadium. It looks like it's going to be a beautiful place.

I was looking at the New Stadium and had a few questions maybe some of the seasoned followers on this topic can answer for me:
a. The main level of seating is below the ground level surrounding the stadium? When I looked at it today thats what it seemed like and the Loge was above the ground, but not exceptionally.
b. The new deck that just started going up this month; is that the final deck or would you expect another level to be eventually placed on top?
c. I am sorry if this was talked about already. I looked through a few posts but could not really find what I was looking for.
d. Sorry for not contributing pictures. Next week I promise.

private funding vs public funding.. Time is money, that's why it took like 18 years to build that connector road outside of Kennedy Airport.

I haven't ever seen anything to indicate that in illustrations, press releases, etc., but it sure looks that way to me.

Hard to tell. If you look at the illustration about 20 posts before this one, you'll see the side view of the concrete concourses and supports, with what looks like steel going up on top of them. But the new steel going up now on top doesn't really look like that. It's sorta straight and right-angled, whereas in the illustration it's kind of an upside-down curved chevron.
I do think that whatever you see now may be higher relative to the field than it appears, because of your first point -- it seems that the field is lower than the surrounding ground.

There seems to have been much progress made. Anyone have pictures? I keep forgetting to take my camera. Hopefully next week. Also, are the seats out in left and right field connected to the bleachers? I was trying to figure this out and it seemed that way in the renderings:

I'm pretty sure they are, since I'm guessing there are going to be a lot of amenities behind the bleachers.. and take a look at this picture.. you see a stairway (or ramp) up to the bleachers... and that will end the no alchohol in the bleachers rule.. even if its alchohol free, all the people have to do is get out of their seats to get a beer. Hopefully those right field bleachers still have a section 39 =) The thing that worries me is people in the back corner by centerfield won't be able to see half the field since the restaurant will block it off.. at least it looks that way in the rendering..

I just see Jeter getting a hit and a lot of empty seats.
I took some photos about a week ago but I've been too busy to put them up. I'll try to do that tonight.
You won't see any shocking new developments, just the continued expansion of what they had already started: the reinforced concrete superstructure is close to being finished, the steel with seating decks in it is continuing to emerge, and that high structure of steel on top of the concrete is also growing, perhaps for the upper deck.
I also happened to take my very first walk through Monument Park (which you'd think I would have done over the 30 years I've been going to games in the Bronx). So I'll include a few photos of that.

There's a free little program called Fiddler (http://www.fiddlertool.com/fiddler/) that shows everything that is downloaded to your computer from IE, so when you go to the picture viewer from mlb.com or any team's page, it shows the original location of the image on the left, and you can right click the image and choose revisit in IE =)

I'm just guessing here, but take a look in the middle-right, under the Budweiser Select sign, you see a gap in the tan wall, I'm guessing that is stairs or a ramp to the bleachers.

OK, here's my latest batch of photos, taken on the afternoon and evening of August 1, before the night game vs. the White Sox. As previously mentioned, there aren't any really revolutionary developments since the last batch, but things are growing and spreading.
AFTER the construction photos, I have included a bunch more photos of my first visit to Monument Park.
All the photos have titles. Some have captions, and if you want to see those you have to click through the photos. You can't read them if you use the slideshow feature.
Enjoy.
