Of course you walk Ramirez intentionally Joe Morgan. His run is meaningless.

If Youkilis bunts, you have to walk the bases loaded to set up the double play. But Mariano can't assume the bunt and lay a pitch down the middle, ala the '04 ALCS.

NelsonMuntz
08-21-06, 12:00 AM
why was abreu removed?
Because Green was PH'd for which meant A-Rod had to come in to play 3B since we do not have another backup infielder. With the double switch, Abreu would be the last guy to bat again so that is who Joe pretty much had to replace since we lost the DH.

DrNick

No one cares who the batter is -- Lowell, Hinske, doesn't matter.

It's a matter of a double play scenario and a force at home. As far as scoring, a runner on first doesn't matter at all. Ironically, it can only help you to have a runner there.

Excellent job by Mo . . . even though the inning shouldn't have gotten to that point if Giambi would have knocked a ball down.

Ironically, though, that bad bounce might have helped the Yankees. Ortiz never scored and the Yankees didn't have to face Manny, who might have knocked one out.

But even though Mo loaded, it was still a great performance. The first batter reached on the bad hop, then there was an IBB, then the passed ball, and another IBB. The three runners were on a bad hop and two IBBs. He really piched great.

Wasn't crazy about the idea of Rivera pitching the 9th in a tie game on the road, but under the circumstances I understand Torre's reasoning. Farnsworth shelved, going for the jugular...all that stuff. I'd be tempted to let someone else pitch, though, if the Yankees don't score in the 10th.

Panamaniac, you cannot predict baseball. I never figured out how people can bet on these games. You just never know what going to happen. The most unlikely things can occur in this game. How do you like that?
