Mark F'n Loretta!! Damn.
Drill big papi right in his big papi butt.
If we can hold it right here, I'm confident we'll score at least 3 more.
Total collapse. Nothing tonight...nothing. Our pitching doesn't have a chance.

This has got to be one of the worst pitching performances by two teams in any one game.
And one of the worst performances by a manager.
Drill big papi right in his big papi butt.

This game is a joke
Oh hell.... three runs is nothing!
We can score that with our eyes closed.

Should have left Ponson out to dry. Now we wasted Villone it what probably will be a blowout loss.

With all the people already saying the game is over, I would expect only 40 heads to be in this GT.

08-18-06, 09:38 PM
JARET? Are you kidding me? Did Ponson win a World Series for the Yanks or something? Why does everyone absolutely love this guy?
its jarets fault we don't have a bullpen.
Ssacco08
08-18-06, 09:38 PM
Ponson sucked a ton today and I blame him fully, but you couldn't have expected anything from him today. Jaret Wright couldn't handle the damn Orioles yesterday and had to leave and we had to waste Villone yesterday. If Wright could've given us some solid innings last night, maybe things would be different right now.

Bruney is just going to have to stay out there and take one for the team. No point in burning another good reliever now.

Interesting???
Dude had himself lashed to the rigging of his own ship to show his sailors that he had no fear. He then watched the mines that they knew were there sink an ironclad ship that was leading his wooden ships into the harbor. When his small armada showed reluctance to go foreward, he screamed his famous quote (my sig), then won one of the principal naval battles of the Cival War.
And we think we have problems because our team is a little tired, and our sixth starter stinks?
"Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead!"
You might want to get busy with the people saying Torre sucks, instead of getting all worked up because I thought the story was interesting.
Yeah, Farragut was a badass.
You are assuming the Sox wont score another run tonight??? Wow
And you are assuming that we can't score any more?

Felt very winnable too. I guess a split isn't a total disaster but this one feels like a gift.
I looked at this all day as being the "bonus" game if we'd won it. I expected nothing from Ponson and got even less! I'm just sad that we are hitting so well...maybe Tavarez will revert to form and the Yanks can get another run going in this one.
I would have really preferred Bruney START the inning with no one on base instead of being brought into a jam like this. I didn't expect Joe to throw Vallone under a bus like that.
Better hope Myers can get some big lefty outs the rest of the weekend!

Nothing wrong with taking Ponson out. He had garbage tonight. Bringing Villone out for a 2nd inning is indefensible though.

Just keep it to three. Yanks are scoring more than that the next few innings. Only decent pitcher left is Papelbon, as Timlin has lost a foot off his fastball. Just keep it close, Bruney...and eat two innings.

Well it's an either/or situation. Either you surrender the game at that point and leave Ponson in the game, or you take him out and only let Villone throw one inning. Bringing Villone out for the 2nd inning was the equivalent of leaving Ponson in the game. It made no sense.

Yeah. Sometimes you lose the battle to win the war. Torre doesn't do that often, and it's cost them late in seasons and October for a few years now. I want to win as much as anyone....but there are times and days where you just shackle pitchers to the bench and see if you can win without them.

I was leaning towards Villone but Myers is a better choice.

Bruney is god awful. Not that we didnt already know that.
Actually, he looks serviceable. He could be useful in low leverage situations.

Pena is actually the best guy to have up there. Anyway.....3 runs against this pen is not anywhere close to being insurmountable. Get the runs back, then squeak one more inning out of Bruney, Myers, etc. The the big three can pitch.

Little do we realize, but Carl Pavano is going to arrive in a car a la Jesse Orosco in 2003. He's going to come in to pitch four innings of shut out relief, the Yankees are going to come back in the top of the tenth, and Mariano will come in to close out the game.
Then Torre will sip his tea, and say, "damn, this is good tea. Someone get Proctor throwing in the bullpen."
Guidry will tell Torre the game is over, but Torre...he knows. "Just get him throwing, Ron."
goin for 27
08-18-06, 09:51 PM
Was there seriously no other date in the calendar where both the Yanks and Sox had an off-day the same day and were in the Northeast?
Yep. There was one date, I remember they were kicking around, but it was going to make the Yanks play like 22 days in a row or something, which is against the CBA rules.

And we've played 5 innings in just under 3 hours.
This could be one of those games where a position player gets to pitch, say, Andy Phillips? That would be a good use for him. He's on the DL. :(

Hey, that's the player of the week your talking about..
I don't consider saying Ponson isn't great excessively negative. Sorry.
When the majority of the posts are saying that Ponson sucks, and that we have to score 20 runs to win the game, that's a wee bit negative.
Oh, and let's not forget. He's fat.
And we've played 5 innings in just under 3 hours. It'll probably speed up now ... especially since things are looking good for there not being a bottom of the ninth. Unfortunately. :(

Well, Tavarez is now in the running for the Cy Young =)
3 more innings vs. Hansen, Timlin, and Papelbon. Not looking too good for us.
7th and 8th will be turning points....Hansen has been pretty bad, Timlin hasn't been any good of late. Cut it to at least one....and get the top of the order for Papelbon and this one will hurt for Boston.
