It simply makes no sense for the Jays to give up a decent player- not great, decent- for absolutely nothing. AND pay half his salary. No sense.

Ok let's look ahead to the next inning... Do you bring Wang back and have him pitch to Loretta, then bring in Myers for Ortiz and Proctor for Manny?

Yes. That's what I would do if it is still 4-3.

simmy886
08-18-06, 02:27 PM
I usually bash Torre for bringing in relievers too soon, but I would like to see proctor start the inning to face Loretta, ortiz and Manny instead of a leadoff double by loretta again and the ortiz coming up after the crowd is all riled up after a commercial break...

While what they got in return was nothing, Hinske had nowhere to play in Toronto.

Understood. But....they are a team that fancys itself as a contender next year, and they are helping one of their two main compettitors with a useful player who they will likely platoon with Pena. Strange.

I agree but we also got a pretty sweetheart deal in getting Abreu and Lidle for minimal prospects and not having to pick up Abreu's option. Can't be mad about it, lets just get some outs.
What? We're paying Abreu's full salary next season and we gave up our 2005 #1 draft pick (+ 3 other prospects). That's a lot more than the Red Sox gave up for Hinske.

Kiwiwriter
08-18-06, 02:28 PM
Gritty pitching by Wang in a tough situation...I would have him face Loretta, then Myers to face Ortiz, then Proctor for Mannny and the eighth. Mo for the ninth. No alternative.

Outstanding job by Wang to battle not having his best stuff (despite throwing 94 consistently) all day.

Exactly... Wang has been grinding this one... and Hinske is just unreal the way he owns him....

jimmykey2
08-18-06, 02:28 PM

Nowhere for him to play.

DH, RF, LF, 1B, and 3B are all filled up. The emergence of Reed Johnson nailed Hinske to the bench.

Question: with two games today and Wang at 87 pitches, do you let him start the 7th inning? Or do you go straight to the pen?

I'd bring him out to face Loretta at the very least. Depending on how he looks there, I may then bring up Myers for Ortiz, then Proctor for Manny. Then Proctor could pitch the 8th too... We need some insurance runs!

brosiusbuddy
08-18-06, 02:29 PM
Wang pitches to Loretta and hopefully gets an out. Myers to Ortiz. Myers IBB Manny. Proctor to Youkilis

YankClipper5
08-18-06, 02:29 PM
Uhh Yankees paid money to make that deal one sided.

I understand that but money is probably the Yankees biggest asset in making deals and Abreu is far superior to Hinske in what he will likely contribute down the stretch. Not to mention CJ Henry's stock was falling, while he is still young, he hasn't showed much. In their own context, the deals were equally as one sided, IMO.

knickfan23

Wang has to be, hitter by hitter in the 7th.

Loretta is the first guy up. I can see you pitching Wang against him. But I am NOT (and I'm first guessing assuming the lead is 4-3) advocating pitching Wang against Ortiz. Bring in Myers for Ortiz and then Proctor for Ramirez (though Manny owns Proc).

Except that MLB.tv is blacked out on Saturday afternoons. So it's FOX or nothing.

I have the same problem at work, also. I think it's their firewall, although it could also be the bandwidth thing.

Nah, I work for IT company and our ul/dl speed is out of this world. That is why I asked, first time all year I have had problems.

I was guess it has to be either the NESNHD feed or traffic.

The difference in the deals seems pretty fair given the caliber of player Abreu is compared with that of Hinske's caliber, you pay more to get more, but I think given the contect the deals were pretty good both for the Sox and Yanks
