when you can account for about 30% of a team's errors coming from one guy, it's safe to say he's a prime candidate to be replaced defensively in close/late situations.

I know it is going to cause issues....but I don't see how you don't make room for an inexpensive and developing Melky. Thanks for saving me the typing - these were my exact thoughts.

One more thing- Damon getting hot right now isn't a bad thing.
I'm right there with you. My only issue with picking up Abreu was that it would make Melky the odd man out when Sheff/Matsui came back. But I don't see how you can put this kid on the bench. Not only is he a fan favorite (which I know, doesn't mean much) but he plays so hard and has been a huge plus for us this year.

Honest to God...When there was talk earlier in the Season about us picking him up...I was "Oh Hell Yeah..grab him!"
Seeing him play w/the Phillies against the Marlins that last 3 years or so...he was a 'Marlin Killer'..
Now he's a "AL Killer"...every team...every game..doesn't seem to matter who is pitching..he finds a way to get on base every game. I love this guy..:D
