Let's get it started (ha), let's get it started in here.
Time for Chien-Ming Wang to use his ground and pound on the Halos.
Wang grounds and pounds them, gains the mount or side control, rain down more blows, and get the LAA via very deep submission with an armbar, or if the LAA gives up their back, Wang gets them in a rear-naked choke.

I'm counting on CMW to pitch a great game today. Hopefully the yankees will give him some good run support too and give Weaver his first loss.

I'm also counting on CMW to pitch a great, effective game today.
And the Yankee offense needs to play solid, effective baseball with well placed, timely hitting for all nine innings.
Also, the Yankee defense, stays alert and on their toes making effective throws at all times.

Hopefully worm killer can help us fight through the rookie curse, give Weaver a pounding, and be facing Kevin Gregg by the fourth inning.
Ok, realistically, I'm happy with a win no matter how we get it.

The Yankees gotta use their speed and hustle to force the Angels to commit a lot of errors.
Gotta get good reads off Jared Weaver's delivery on the fly.

Exactly we have to use what they have been using for so many years against us.
Also, Torre can not under any circumstances play smallball versus the Angels, use our OBP and slugging to our advantage and dont give away outs.

Vlad, DH. Q, 3B, Kendrick, 1B. Thanks. Is something physically wrong with Vlad, or has his defense just sucked? Does this mean that Curtis Pride is starting in left again? And I guess no Maicer Izturis then, huh?

How's the weather over there?
Does anyone have a scouting report on Weaver?
What does he throw? Does he have a low ERA because of small sample size of is he just that good?

Flyball pitcher, 4-seamer up to 96, good 2-seamer, great slider, deceptive delivery according to Suzyn Waldman. No decisions in last 3 starts (has not pitched great in them).

It was the dirt's fault.
The dirt wrote criticisms about A-Rod in itself, and it made A-Rod so nervous that he couldn't field the grounder. If the dirt would just stop booing him, he'd be fine.
I cannot watch this. They'll probably score five runs this inning alone.
That Times piece jinxed Wang good.

Contact pitcher vs. contact hitting team. Should've realized that before this mess started.
Groundball hits still count as hits. And so many hits aren't good.
exactly. that's the problem with a pitcher that can't stike anyone out.

I am most concerned about the pen today, as they really don't have the ability to use the key guys late for more than an inning or so.
Don't worry -- the way this is going, you will Ponson for a couple of innings and Veras for a couple of innings.

Looks like the lead will be back to 1 after today. And people call me crazy when I say the Angels are the ONLY team that scares me and I have zero confidence in beating.
What a horror show. Terrible inning
I don't have the numbers off the top of my head, but back during the whole A-Rod=Knoblauch circus, ESPN pointed out that at the time, very few of his errors had resulted in runs scoring.
Yanks have lost two games where his errors directly led to huge innings in the past month.

Just a terrible luck inning right now. Just nothing you can do. He really has made exactly one bad pitch and gotten no help or luck.
Well this is why he'll never be an ace, he can have innings like this, where he does little wrong and his defense and luck fails him.

Not a huge inning. Yanks win this game, and Wang settles in quite nicely. Anyone here surprised if Wang throws up a 7 inning, 4 run game today? Not me. He's getting grounders, just bad luck there.

Holy crap -- I didn't even realize there was still only 1 out.
Yanks need to come back and score at least 1 in the first inning. If they go 1-2-3, the tone will be set for the rest of the game.

Other then the Figgins HR....you cant blame Wang for any of this. His defense didnt help him at all. ARod boots an easy grounder, Jeter shows his lack of range up the middle, and for some reason Cano is standing next to the 2B bag on two occassions.

Time to come back with some angry bats and beat the snot out of Weaver.
Down by three. The Angels all but batted around in the first inning. Our ace pitcher gave up SIX hits in ONE inning ... oh, and he threw 25 pitches. Anyone in the pen able to go two or three today?
Well this is why he'll never be an ace, he can have innings like this, where he does little wrong and his defense and luck fails him.
On SoSH there was a link to an analysis someone at a different more neutral site did weeks ago: pitchers like Wang who have NO real out pitch historically do no fare well over the long term in the AL .....

Exactly. Wang was fine. Tivo'd the HR- he tried to sneak a 4-seamer to him, probably not wanting to get further behind to his speed.

I disagree that he has regressed. I think he's clearly tired. Joe has treated him like he's Johan Santana... making him pitch every fifth day, not like a guy in his first full season and who's also had arm trouble. With "The Grind" we're in, there's no way to give him an extra day's rest now.

Hey dabomb. If the Yankees get good reads from Weaver's delivery on the fly, they will get base hits.
On SoSH there was a link to an analysis someone at a different more neutral site did weeks ago: pitchers like Wang who have NO real out pitch historically do no fare well over the long term in the AL .....
I think you mean strikeout pitch, because the sinker this year is the best "out" pitch in the league.
Wang doesn't have many real comparisons, though. Not many pitchers over the past 20 years have thrown 95 mph sinkers. Most sinkerballers have mediocre stuff- Wang actually has very good stuff- just that the sinking fastball is a contact pitch because it rides straight down and not across or across and down.

Well his sinker is an out pitch, just not a K out pitch. It's weird because he has the stuff to get K's, he just doesn't, Guirdy needs to work with him on a change or slider or something.

I fully realize that, despite what uber Sabremetric geeks want to profess, the pitches cannot be that easily be catagorized and Wang's sinker is definitely special. I'm also handicapped by the fact that I'm listening to Sterling so don't have a clue what Wang looks like today....
