OK....Alex absolutely SHOULD have made that play. Major league 3B make that play almost all the time- he held up, had time, the ball bounced behind him. He ruled offensively tonight- he can misplay a foul ball and be absolved.
But....that was a terrible 0-2 pitch that Dye missed, then he hit another terrible 0-2 pitch.
Posada hit into a huge DP, Melky didn't get the run home in the 9th.

It does sting but you can't argue with the overall result. Royals gave us a real gift and helped lower the magic number. Randy has to earn his ridiculous paycheck and give us innings tomorrow. No matter how much of a battle it is, he must find a way, escape jams or whatever.

Is the fact that ARod should have caught that ball not allowed to be even mentioned.
Some ARod defenders are worse than ARod bashers.
Arod had to run 40 or 50 yards backwards looking over his shoulder the whole time not knowing where the wall is. All the arod bashers, which i sometimes tend to be, are quick to jump all over him, yet they dont say anything about where melky was on a ball he had in front of him the whole time. its absolutely absurd to blame arod.

I just get sick of people talking crap about him. Of course he should've caught it. And a few sac flies should've been hit by other guys...and Mo shouldn't have blown the save...He played great tonight except for that one play. It shouldn't have even come down to that.
Jenks not available manana. Good- he looked tough tonight.

Fact is a pretty strong word.
I think Posada shouldn't have hit into that DP, I also think Melky failed to get the run home. Damon had a bad night against Jenks. Mo blew a save. There are a lot of people to blame. Bernie had a big pinch hit strikeout, whether that's his or Torre's fault. Arod gets zero blame. That would have been a remarkable catch. He was the hero offensively. Without him this game isn't close.

I knew right when that ball fell next to A-Rod that we would lose on a hit by Dye. Second chances to good hitters...

Mo blew a save we all expect him to convert. No shame in saying that. We all still love him and trust him to get 3 outs in 23 hours... more than we could trust another EVER.
A one-run HR wouldn't have mattered if all those runners hadn't been stranded.
Edit: Of course you're right that we all still love 'im. :)

Wow lets all blame the guy who kept us in the GOD DAMN GAME IN THE FIRST PLACE. Why not blame Melky/Wilson FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO HIT A FLY BALL WHEN IT MATTERED.

good news :)
It does sting but you can't argue with the overall result. Royals gave us a real gift and helped lower the magic number. Randy has to earn his ridiculous paycheck and give us innings tomorrow. No matter how much of a battle it is, he must find a way, escape jams or whatever.
That will require him to have a 'Plan B' if his current strategy to assume he can pitch exactly the way he did 5 years ago doesn't work tomorrow... I've seen no evidence he has any 'Plan B'...

He ran 40 yards...saw the tarp, then walked 2 yards and the ball dropped 2 feet away from him. The argument isn't whether or not the catch was easy. It's shouldn't he have at least gotten his glove on the ball? We all know The Cap' would make that catch.
It's one game... a tough game, but we'll get over it and be ready to fight back tomorrow.
This wasn't that tough a loss, people. Yanks didn't "blow" anything- they got beat. Of course you don't want to give up a HR in the 9th, and you want to get fly balls with runners on third. But the Chisox beat them.

Ok....just watched the A-rod play two or three times on tivo. I recant. It would have been a nice play. Makeable? Yes. Routine? Absolutely not.
Of course it's MAKABLE. A lot of catches are MAKABLE if players do these ridiculous acrobatic moves that risk injury.
Screw that. A-Rod played his heart out tonight. He's the team hero even in a loss.

Is everyone going to completely ignore the fact that Proctor threw an 0-2 pitch right down the middle? WASTE A PITCH.

Ok. Fact is a strong word.
But ARod gets zero blame. He at least has to take maybe a fraction of the blame. Several players, including Mo, and Posada (who threw out 3 baserunners), and Melky, and ARod, and others.
Team game. Everyone played a role in losing. Including ARod.
ARod defenders can't admit that.
yeah you're not emotional with that itchy finger. LOL
my simple point is arod's play on that ball extended that at bat. and good teams love when you let pop ups drop in foul territory. they make you pay for it.
there's nothing controversial or even remotely innacurate with my statement.
If my finger was itchy, you'd have been gone out of here 2 months ago. 1 more and you will be, and I am not joking. It's every other fricking post, for crying out loud.

No Team Hero's when you lose.

I'm not trying to bash Arod, because frankly that's a bad attitude, but the spectacular plays (with ridiculous acrobatic moves) are the ones that we want players to make. Injury, schminjury.
If he had missed it, it would have been fate, but it looked like he wasn't even going to try for it. Maybe he lost sight of it or something.

He was running straight back and he'd have to dive for it running back to even have a shot at it. Melky could've gotten there so much faster and he'd be coming forward. He was there he just stopped. Why is this not Melky's fault? He had the easist route to the ball
Maybe Arod thought Melky was gonna get it and pulled up at the end.

Melky just stopped running for the ball totally. If you see that play he's much closer to the spot of where the ball lands than ARod running backwards. Melky just stops.

This loss didn't bug me at all. Wang pitched bad, it happens. We played well, we played hard, we just got beat. When you get bad starting pitching all you ask is to be in a position to win the game. That happened.
Would have loved to win this game, but in the end, turn the page, move on.

I think Ozzie rolled those dice because Garland goes the next game. If anyone on the Sox staff can get a complete game or just go deep, it's him right now. Can't wait for the Garland-Johnson matchup myself.

Wow.
This was the largest GT post count of the season. It eclipses the Yankees-Mariners game in July by over 400 posts, and that was a game that was delayed by rain for over and 1 hour and change.
Tremendous performance by all who contributed last night. I'm with you all in spirit as I enjoy these games at US Cell.
