If Farns was unavailable I would not have moaned if he went to Proctor because there are no other alternatives in this situation.

But Farnsworth warmed up in the 7th, but something happened between warming up in the 7th and the start of the 8th that suddenly made him unavailable to pitch tonight.

Now Joe has a choice.

He can try to use Villone for a 3rd inning. Use Mike Myers against a switch hitter in Matthews and roll the dice. Or, bring in Beam because he has no one left in the pen unless you want to see Shawn Chacon or Kris Wilson (have they been DFA'ed yet?). And Mo has pitched two days in a row.

There are no options.

God....right now I can't contain my anger. Just livid. Proctor is on fumes- this will cause him to be ineffective for a few weeks.

So...Torre will lose tonight, then proceed to kill his pen with a cooked reliever, a possible injury to Farnsworth, etc....

So happy.

Blame Wright. He could'nt even go six innings.

Mo's pitched 3 out of the last 4 days because Torre used him on Monday with a 4 run lead. If he doesn't do that, then he could have pitched today, and then Farnsworth could have pitched the 8th. Torre blew this situation 2 days ago.

100% correct.

I'm not a Joe defender either... remember I almost lost my mind when he brought in Kris Wilson on Sunday. Proctor can't get anyone out. Farnsworth is either hurt or was going to be the closer.

But Torre always gets caught in between. Either you will use a guy or you won't. He now has not only made the wrong decision, but he's made it twice. He's cost this game, and possibly many more by blowing through a reliever who is shot.

He's a terrible pen manager, because of his mistrust and indecision.

TJ Beam isn't a major league reliever right now. If Farnsworth is hurt, you can choose to pitch Villone another inning. Either Proctor is available or he isn't- and if he isn't (as should be the case) keep him on the friggin' bench.

He did the same thing in the '04 Sox series with Rivera. He tries to skate with something, then panics and goes to the guy he didn't want to go to. He screws up twice.

Remember when Mariano had pitched two innings and 19 pitches? Joe thought it a good idea to have him come back for a third inning...

Either, on average, is a better idea than putting a rookie into that situation. Just because it doesn't work out sometimes doesn't make it a bad idea. Beam there is a bad idea.

How are ppl calling out Torre when Farnsworthless gets hurt in the bullpen?!

I don't care if he got his leg blown off in the bullpen, you don't bring in Beam in that situation. Then he proceeds to bring in Proctor, If Proctor was available why didn't you just start the inning with him? Just an all around **** by Torre tonight.

What this really comes down to is that Torre locks himself into rigid ideas like "I don't trust Shawn Chacon" and as a result, he goes to Chacon as his FOURTH option when he should have been SECOND tonight (first option: let Villone start the 8th).

SoCal Pinstriper
07-26-06, 10:05 PM
It's pretty obvious that this thread is filled with people who, one, are not athletes, and two, think their ................ don't stink. "Should've left Villone in" "Should've pitched Chacon" "Mo Could've pitched two" "Proctor could've went". Give me a ................ing break. Anyone can sit here once it's happened and shoot their mouth. Torre did nothing wrong tonight, you bashers are clueless and annoying....and calling anyone here clueless is against Community Standards.

donniesrecordholdsup
07-26-06, 10:05 PM
Maybe it's because I've only been watching on and off... but I can't see how this is Torre's fault if Farnsworth is hurt.

Villone for a 3rd inning? Bad idea.

Mo for 2 innings? Bad idea.

Overused Proctor? Bad idea.

Myers against righties? Bad idea.

Chacon? Bad idea.

Wonder if it would have been managed differently if they had known something was wrong with Farnsworth earlier.
beam is worse then any of those choices. chacon is better then beam.

gold23
07-26-06, 10:05 PM
OK....Mo for the 9th now.

By the way, those saying Villone for a third inning is a bad idea...please explain?

A guy who has generally been the long man for his clubs- and has started many games- had thrown 19 pitches. If you can give me a legitimate reason why he couldn't pitch into a third inning, I will discuss. Otherwise, simply saying it isn't the right move doesn't fly. It was not only the right move, but pretty much the only option.

Unless Matt Smith was on the team. For some reason, Torre doesn't like how he gets his outs, whereas he likes Beam's stuff and approach.
