I think Jeter's was a strike. Tivo tells me at the worst it was an extremely close call- but likely a strike.
Giambi's? Of course not.
Yanks will go to the bench twice in the next two innings, so the lineup won't be that bad swinging around right now. I imagine they are Cordero and then Otsuka, so Guiel will be able to hit against a righty in Cairo's spot.
Guiel should hit against a righty in Bernie's spot.
If it's against a righty for Bernie, I agree. Against a lefty, gotta leave Bernie in.
I prefer Bernie hitting to Cairo...which is why I hold Guiel for Cairo's spot.

a lot of this stuff is arbitrary. close and late is a good starting tool but dont rely on too much. if a guy hits a 2 run double in the 1st inning and they go on to win like 5-4, those rbis count just as much as a walkoff no? when it comes to clutch you have to use your eyes and be honest about your opinion not rely on stats too much imo

It's tough to bunt a 96 MPH fastball.
I really hate that major leaguers can't bunt. It's really not a difficult thing to do for an athlete- they just never practice it enough against actual pitching. Anyone can bunt a BP ball- which is all they bunt.

You know what I love about Melky? He's always hustling, but does so in a smart way. He was ready to take third if the ball wasn't cut off knowing that no one was covering 2nd. As soon as the ball is cut he goes back to 2nd. For a rookie, he's very aggressive but he doesn't take stupid chances.
