They shoulda maybe left Wang in another inning, he was only at 90 pitches. And he'd handled Wells well ...

Farnsy and Myers up.

goin for 27
07-22-06, 05:48 PM
He can't work through this unless hes playing. Taking BP isn't going to help his cause at all.

I don't disagree, but I think he needs a few days off to get fresh, study some film, etc. You mentioned that he is at least swinging, but it is more like flailing.

Study film... great, so he can get more crap in his head.

What he needs is to stop thinking, just go up there with a plan.

See the ball. Hit the ball. That's all he needs to do, IMO.

He has the capability to be dominant, particularly against big right-handed bats. If he lives up to that potential the rest of this year, he is a huge weapon for us.

He has the capability to be dominant, particularly against big right-handed bats. If he lives up to that potential the rest of this year, he is a huge weapon for us.

But he's on pace to pitch about 100 innings. Thats the problem. Overuse has to come into play at some point.

Leaving for Quebec City Monday....brushing up on my french verbs.:D

Here's to the advantages of knowing how to curse in two languages:gulp:

I was in Quebec City for the first time last weekend and I couldn't get over the Continental feel of the city (especially in the old part up on the bluff)... but it's a bear to drive in. With all the winding streets its hard to figure out which direction you're heading in. We stayed at the Fairmont and had a great time, I'll definitely go back.

Arod seems to be a very sensitive young man with a low sense of self esteem, probably having to do with his father leaving him when he was young. He seems to need approval and love desperately. And he is only getting more rejection and pressure. There is a vicious circle here as the fans boo and demand performance for his pay and their fare.

He needs to be hugged by his teammates and manager. Maybe he needs Lou Piniella.

How long has it been since we scored more than two runs in an inning?

Personally, I much prefer Alex's four strikeouts to Andy's four bounceouts/flyouts on the first or second pitch. At least Alex makes 'em throw a minimum of three pitches!

Funny how that all started as soon as he came to the Yankees. Didnt seem to affect him the previous 8 seasons before that.

That's part of the reason I don't really believe all that crap, that he's a mental wreck. He fails in the clutch alot, because, well, everyone does. That's the point of it, you fail 7/10 times. The reason the outs are publicized so much is because the media hates him for never giving them good quotes, and because everyone expects him to be perfect due to his contract. He has 18 GW RBI this season, which leads the league. So how unclutch is he really?

I just un-muted the radio after hanging up on my phone call... and I heard Sterling say "he's like the little girl with a curl." ?????????????

EDIT: I just googled the phrase -- I had never heard this nursery rhyme, but it makes sense applied to Farnsworth:

There was a little girl who had a little curl
Right in the middle of her forehead;
When she was good, she was very, very good,
And when she was bad she was horrid.

Jersey Yankee

I thought that was gone. Phews.
For some strange reason, most of these foul HRs don't result in a HR in the same AB. I think that Frank Thomas as a White Sox did hit one out after a foul HR.

07-22-06, 06:08 PM
I agree, but it isnt his father's fault. Its his fault he cant handle the pressure if that is the problem.

i think some players react to booing different than others . i was just reading the article about moose defending a-rod on yankees.com . i think Moose is correct in saying fans in NY need to give a-rod a break and leave him alone and see what he can do . a-rod goes 3-4 , he'll get booed for that one out . yankee fans have special place for guys like jeter and bernie etc , which is all right . but just because a-rod didnt come up through yankee system and hasn;t been part of the world series victories in late 90s , that doesnt mean he needs to be booed everytime he doesn;t come through .

That can't be a reason to excuse the booing, by saying it shouldn't get into his head.

It is getting into his head, and it's affecting him in a negative way. Yankees fans who boo Alex are hurting our chances to win when they do it.

If A-rod makes an error in the 9th......he would probably eclipse the game he had the other day in terms of career-worst. Here's hoping he doesn't get a ball (actually, ideally he gets all three and is clean...but right now I prefer a win to a test).

Must've been in the minority. People keep talking as if "Yankee fans are booing A-Rod, like the ones who boo him at YS-II are both the majority and the very definition of Yankee fandom. Can't be more than 40,000 of us at a single non-Beantown or non-Mut$ game, and quite a few more Yankee fans overall.

As I like to say, "its like hiding the fat kid in the outfield or trying to put the slumping hitter down in the order. The ball and/or the situation will find you."

Its like the kid in class who would sit in the back and try not to get called on in class. Didnt always work out.

After that you have to seriously wonder whether Jason's hurt. With a lead, Torre couldn't be THAT desperate to score another run ... not that Wright is much of a runner anyway, I'd bet ...

And now we have Alex back at third. PLEASE don't hit any balls that way, Blue Jays!

gold23
07-22-06, 06:18 PM
Is he any worst at third, than Giambi is at first?

Absolutely, right now. See...Giambi makes most plays on balls hit to him. He has no mobility, and no arm. He's a poor 1B. But that shines much less often than a 3B who can't throw the ball.

If this game is at any other time (ie, A-rod in his right frame), good move. I wouldn't make it.
