I missed the question but walked in and Joe was glaring at the guy saying "Have you been around baseball? Tie game at home you bring your closer in. Do you know that? Di, didya know that? If it's a tie game at home, you should be able to bring your closer in and not have someone ask you a question about it."
What exactly was the stupid question? Probably something along the lines of "Why did you bring in Mo without the lead". Durrrrrrrrrr

Here's the back and forth:
Reporter: "What were your thoughts about bringing Rivera in in the 9th?"
Joe looked at the guy and said, "What were my thoughts about it?"
Reporter: "Yeah, I mean you're, you know...tie ball game as opposed to, uh..."
Torre, interupting, "You been around much?"
Reporter: "Well..."
Torre: "Do you know tie games at home you bring your closer in?"
Reporter: "I mean did you feel...
Joe: "Did you know that?
Reporter: "...a sense of urgency to bring him in?"
Joe: "No. Do you understand what I'm saying to you?"
Reporter: "Yes. I guess I'm asking..."
Joe (speaking slowly, as if he's explaining the meaning of life to a moron): "If it's a tie game at home, you can bring your closer in without anybody asking you a question. So...enough said."

By the sound of the voice, it certainly wasn't Kay. And couldn't have been him anyway because Kay ALWAYS makes this point when Mo comes in to a tie game in the 9th at home. "Those fans new to the game maybe wondering why Rivera is coming in in a tie game. Remember, no chance for a save if you're tied at home.....blah, blah, blah."

Of course there are some (myself included) that think dropping an f-bomb in a post is rude too... but I digress.

OK, it was a dumb question, but still, Joe's response is telling. He's angry because "If it's a tie game at home, you can bring your closer in without anybody asking you a question." He doesn't say that it's the right move to make because there will be no save opportunity, so you might as well get your best in there to give yourself a chance to win it in the bottom half. Sure, that's true, but more importantly, it's a knee-jerk, formulaic move that nobody will question you for. Sounds like he's getting defensive about how he's increasingly come under fire for bullpen mismanagement.

But wouldn't Joe be questioned more if he had strayed from the normal formula and used, say, Proctor in that spot instead of Rivera and Proctor failed to hold the lead in the top of the 9th? I can hear it now: "Jeez, doesn't Joe know anything? You bring your closer in there! What the heck was he doing letting a rested Mo sit and watch while Proctor blew the game. Doesn't he know there is no save opportunity if you're tied at home after 8?"

Given the consistent level of stupidity in post-game questions, I am actually surprised that Joe (and the players) are as tolerant as they usually are. I was surprised at the lifting of the irritating YES (usually KJ) monopoly on post-game questions. The others usually just watch....was this just tonight because of the cosmic event? Or did it change a while back and I failed to notice it?

He definitely wasn't happy with being questioned about his bullpen management. Haven't seen that from Torre much (ever?).
I thought it was pretty funny. I wonder who the reporter was.

Good for Torre. I am sick of post game interviewers. They act so smug and ask stupid ass questions like they could do so much better. I'm glad Torre took a dump on this guy, I hope he continues to not take any crap from 2nd rate post-game interviewers.

Yeah, this guy's inane question made Kim Jones's questions look insightful. Her's are usually of the incredibly obvious, bordering on rhetorical, variety. "Alex, how important was that walk off home run today?"

It makes you wonder how these reporters keep their jobs and get paid. :-shrug-:

I swear that was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. You could tell by the way the guy was stuttering that he really hadn't been around. I loved at the end of Joe explaining why you bring Mo in, he makes sure to mention that you're not supposed to question that move. I thought it was great.

Thats kind of overdramatic
