what gives????
Giambi stung Halsey for a homer the other night. He homers again today. Today Halsey pays him back, no more homers. Jete's been nailed like what seems every game. Yank pitchers are silent. Where's Colome? He was scary at times. We need a Wild Thing now. Maybe lure Straw out of retirement and get him to pitch!!! This edition is too timid!:o STFU!!!!

Except the pitchers arent hitting our guys intetionally. If we get somebody hit on purpose, sure have our pitcher nail their best hitter in the ribs, but not if it was an accident.

Yep. And they will say the same thing. They know the price they may pay and are willing to take the risk.

Based on the events (homers) of the last two days, please tell me how Halsey hitting Giambi was an accident. Maybe I'm paranoid but I just don't buy it. Also, for what it's worth, this is the same d-bag who threw at Posada when we were blowing out Oakland.

The Ump's. And it may very well change at any time.

;) One of the greatest lines on BB.Com/NYYFans.com ever.
Taken in context, of course. :D  :gulp:
I don't care if Jeter or Giambi dive over the plate. If you hit our players, there should be a cost...retaliation.

Retaliate for an accident?
And for some reason I think our hitters hitting home runs is a better retaliation than giving the other team baserunners.
It's not an accident that pitchers throw inside. We should make the opposition equally as uncomfortable. That means bruise some knuckles.

The inside pitch is a lost art.Nobody teaches it anymore and this is what happens.HBP numbers go up with all teams.Grant you ...if Jeter was playing in the 60`s with the likes of Bob Gibson he wouldn`t be hanging his hands over the plate.Nobody would......and nobody did.

This team does not have the luxury of throwing at other teams players.........we don`t have the pitching nor can we afford to lose more players with broken knuckles.

For a pitcher to claim the inside of the plate, they must consistantly demonstrate more control than ours have done to date. Mo can and has. Moose can but won't. That's it.

It's not negligence, it's recklessness (a conscious disregard of a known risk).
Retaliating by hitting HRs and retaliation by making ABs umcomfortable for the opposing team are not mutually exclusive. You can and should do both.

Making batters uncomfortable isnt retaliation, its what pitchers should do all the time.

I'd say that most of the opposing pitchers who have been drilling Yankee batters won't be in the running for the Cy Young award. They're not *that* good.
Our pitchers are equally as competant when it comes to throwing the ball too far off the plate. They just need to aim for the inside a bit more.

The Braves pitching staff of the 90`s was a perfect example of the inside pitch.Nobody was better at it since.

I'm talking about a hand for a hand.
I'm talking about a hand for a hand.
Then im not sure what you are getting at. If our pitchers could use the inside of the plate better or keep batters less comfortable in the box they should be doing so during every AB, not just those AB's where we face teams who have pitchers who pitch us inside.
If another team is being reckless and you want a message sent, thats a different issue. When you intentionally hit someone you dont aim for the hand.

This annoys me to no end. The only thing that annoys me is the people who say 'The Yankees have more class than to hit other players on purpose'.
Shucks, if there was only a more civil way of handling this... like sharing less revenue with the league.
Since that'll NEVER happen, it would be nice if our pitchers would throw inside more.

I said "reckless" not "intentional."
That's what other teams have done. A message needs to be sent that being reckless will cost their batters too.

Retaliation is fine, if warranted. Youkilis dives over the plate much like Jeter. He gets hit frequently, too

I wrote reckless as well, so Im not sure why you are correcting me.
Doing what a pitcher is always supposed to do (using the whole plate, keeping the hitter off balance) isnt retallation.
If you really want to retalliate, you hit the batter.

Right now, I'm focused on the Orioles and A's.

No matter how you break it down, our pitchers do nothing.

That's ridiculous. If a player gets hit because he's leaning over the plate, how is that the pitcher's fault? Are pitchers supposed to stop throwing strikes because hitters lean over the plate? I mean, if Jeter decides to lean over so far that his head is directly over the plate, is it the pitcher's responsibility to throw the ball 6 inches outside to make sure Derek doesn't get hit?
If our guys get hit by pitches that are a foot off the plate then I'm totaaly with you, I want someone on the other team to hit the deck. But if they get hit by pitches in or near the strike zone, then that's recklessness on their part, not the pitcher's. What bothers me a whole lot more is our own pitchers inability to throw inside. The fact that a guy like Ortiz, who dives in as much or more than anyone, never gets drilled on the hands or arm, well that's what drives me crazy. If the guy got plunked or put on his butt every once in a while it might give him something to think about other than which upper deck seat he'd like to place the ball in.

It's analogous to stict liability, i.e., liability irrespective of fault.

Mussina might be the only pitcher to follow the analogy.

I'm glad people think that Halsey hitting Giambi was an accident. He takes the guy deep and the next time he faces him he's got a ball on his hands. Give me a break.

i thought the guy posting pics here proved ortiz doesnt dive in or crowd the plate much. he actually stands kind of far off of it. but he still needs to be put on his big old butt because hes too comfy there

Yeah, he really doesn't crowd the plate. If he did, he'd get hit more often (I don't feel like posting the numbers, but he is rarely hbp). Every single hitter who crowds the plate gets hit, a lot. So, either Ortiz doesn't crowd the plate, or he is unnaturally quick;)
