No, because then in no time it might not be a big lead anymore.
No it won't, because if they get into trouble you then bring in your better relievers. This way you can keep them fresh for when you really do need them. See, that's the key part. Capiche?

all of you who still want more runs. no matter how bad our bullpen is, you should be asking the bullpen for quality pitches and outs. not the offense for more runs.
geez, statements like "no lead is safe" are ridiculous. you've got to take your odds and make the appropriate move. not hope we score in every inning.

Like I said, why can't we hope for more runs and for the pitching to be good? It's not like if we score more runs the pitching is going to be worse or if we don't score the pitching is going to be lights out. They're two completely different things.

This is a bad move if you consider Proctor one of your top relievers.
However, the way he has pitched recently, I don't consider him in that regard.
Additionally, this could be a move to give Scott some stress free pitching, maybe helping him to fix whatever's been the problem these last few weeks.
If that's what he's doing, then it's a very good job. (And as it turns out, he had a fantasic inning).

I'm really surprised that Posada is still catching.
I'm not really surprised, considering Damon's still in center, Villone and Proctor have pitched in this game, and Farnsworth is warming up.

Good point by Sutcliff. What's the point he made (for those of us watching on YES)?

Matt Smith for the 9th please.

Farnsy to close?
Hopefully, Farnsy to drill someone...
He pitched alot yesterday, he can't get used today...
i say pitch him again, then DFA him when Chacon comes back Friday
Instead it's Francona who's taken out his regulars to rest them....

Mo and Farnsworth SHOULD NOT PITCH TONIGHT. Anyone but them.
They won't. Joe had him up in case Ron gave up a HR or something. It'll prolly be either Myers or Smith for the 9th.

What's the point he made (for those of us watching on YES)?
He said that A-Rod could have thrown it back to Posada but considering that Posada has a bad knee he did not want to make him run so he took it upon himself.

I expect Jeter to pinch hit and take over at SS for the 9th.

So what if he gets overworked, he isnt an important part of the pen. Makes no sense to waste a vital reliever in a game like this.

You can't ask him to pitch tonight, it's asking him to get his arm in trouble, the guy's old, he's not young like some of our other bullpen arms.

I can only assume with Mo coming in that it either means Joe, Mo, or both, think he needs the work. Ideally you don't want to pitch him in a blow at game but it's probably not the worse idea in the world to give him a lttle work in a non-stress game. Might as well see if he is OK in this game, just as well as in a tighter game tomorrow.

Some of you guys who criticize so much need to look at the bigger picture more often. You think this one game is the only one that matters. It isn't. We need to manage this game, but we need to manage with tomorrow's game in mind, too. That's why Proctor pitched, that's why Mo pitched, he hasn't thrown since Tuesday, they wanna get the rust out of there, if there is any.
ok, before i start a thread on this, let me run it by you folks first:
how about trading Andy Phillips,Eric Duncan,Scott Proctor, and a minor league mid-level pitching prospect (but not Hughes) for Livan Hernandez and Soriano. Then bring up Pena to back up Giambi, move Wright into the bullpen, and DFA Erickson when Dotel is ready. If Pavano ever makes it back, DFA Small and put Chacon in the pen...
