Watching game threads where someone goes from being a useless scrub to a hero to waste of money (all in the course of about two innings) is one of the reasons I love the Internet.

Again, I am not contending he has "been something unbelievable".
All I am saying is that a good number of people have declared that Bernie is no longer a ML-level hitter, and that he should retire. He has inarguably demonstrated that those people have been dead wrong so far.
He has been an invaluable member of the OF -- even with his poor range -- by being able to play every OF position this year without too much damage. He has been an elite hitter from the right side (even as he he has been horrible from the left side). He is clearly giving the team a very good value for the $1.5 million he is making.

Hi everybody. Better late than never. I hate to be one of those guys that shows up in the middle of the game and asks what's going on because he is too lazy to read the previous pages... but I yam what I yam.
I heard Sterling say Giambi is out because he's sick. I'm assuming he has the stomach flu too? He said Rasner is out... stomach flu, or something else?Giambi - Stomach Flu

Wow, it's been a LONG time since I've seen an IBB to Jeter.
Maybe he really is the MVP.
It is just too hard for you to admit that he is exceeding your expecations, huh?
I expected him to be a serviceable 4th outfielder, that is what he has been. The fact that he has been so effective right handed is absolutely a nice aspect of Bernie. However if you expect me to say that a .270 average, a .316 OBP, and a .350 slugging percentage has exceeded my expectations then I am sorry but I can't do that.
And you can tell me about his 1.5 million, but if KT had been playing his role up untilt his point I am very confident he would have better numbers and FAR superior defense.

Ouch, even worse news. Has he been put on the dl and who is his replacement?Yes Matt Smith is on the way to Camden Yards as we speak.

Those numbers are not worthy of even being on a major league roster, which is why I just can't compare him to that. Ane even then, he had a better OBP and Slugging percentage.

Right, but even taking those numbers into consideration his projection right now through the rest of the season has him posting a lower OBP and Slugging percentage with about 4 or 5 more rbis.
So how can I be so impressed with these supposed strides over last season? He has been pretty much the same player.

Bernie has been a completely different player in May/June than he was during a horrific April, which is why the numbers you cite are so low.
From BOTH sides of the plate in May, Bernie sported a .301 average, a .353 OBP, and a .762 OPS, with a higher slugging percentage than Melky.

Which includes a horrid April for a consistently slow starter.
