Just awful. This is why he is completely unreliable. Didn't think I would miss Tom Gordon, but I really do.

Depends on the day actually. One day he could dominate, the next wild and unruly.

I haven't seen enough of Farnsworth during his career to know this... has he always had control issues?

Yeah, pretty much. To make matters worse, he's fallen in love with his slider this year, and leaves it hanging over the plate.

Depends on the day actually. One day he could dominate, the next wild and unruly.

Which is why I miss Gordon. Other than throwing up on himself during the post-season, he was very reliable during the regular season.

JeffWeaverFan

Like everyone else doesn't get mock cheers when they fail. Remember Melky?
So if it's wrong when they do it to Melky or A-Rod, why is it right for you to do it with Jeter?

wow, Farnsworth looked so terrible at the beginning of the inning and then the last 2 batters he looked so sharp, why can't they get him to have any consistancy? That is the paradox. It has been like that since his Cubs days.

And give up the run when your pitcher may very well K the next batter? The out at home was easy. The DP was very difficult because the ball wasn't hit hard. I can't believe this is even arguable.

I just went back and watched the play. He was moving to his right, and would have needed to set in order to get an accurate throw. He MAY have gotten him....but the DP was a legit chance (it was extremely close- maybe even out- after a great takeout) and NOT getting him at home ensures a big inning and likely loss- possibly the right play if tied...but not ahead by one.

It's arguable because there were no outs. YOu get the guy out at home, and anything out of the infield from the next batter still scores a run. The DP is the right call. YOu can't count on K'ing the next batter, even if the chances are good.

To those saying Jeter should have tried the DP, did you watch the replay? He had the ball when the runner on 3B wasn't even halfway down the line. It wouldn't have been a close play.

We all love Jeter. There's no need to mindlessly defend any of his decisions on the field--the guy's not Jesus.

Up by a run, bases loaded and no outs.....every single manager in baseball wants to get the DP and get out hopefully tied. Bases loaded and one out is still a big scoring opp....again, if you are tied or behind, you go home.

I think it's better to come out of that inning tied as opposed to taking the kinds of risks that going to home creates (e.g., late throw, bad throw, or ball out of the infield from the next batter ties it anyway) and losing the game. Of course, holding the lead would be the best option, but sometimes you've gotta cut your losses.
