Yankees look to extend to a 3-game winning streak, after falling 1 game behind Boston in AL East. I won't be able to watch any games this weekend, so I hope they kick butt today.
Pitching matchup (http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/news/mlb_probable_pitchers.jsp?c_id=nyy)
KC: RHP Scott Elarton (0-5, 4.71 ERA)
The 30-year-old has dropped seven straight decisions since his last win, on Sept. 21. The staff veteran stirred it up last week, when he read the riot act to his teammates during a clubhouse meeting, criticizing them for growing comfortable with losing. A control pitcher who keeps the ball in play (23 strikeouts in 57 innings), Elarton relies on those teammates.
Elarton still has no victories despite some good efforts. His last outing against the Cardinals was splattered by three home runs and he's given up a team-high 13 this season. But he went six innings and has gone five or more in eight of his 10 starts, making things easier for the bullpen. Elarton hasn't won a game since last Sept. 21, at Chicago when he started a shutout victory for the Indians. He was 2-0 in two starts last year against the Yankees.
NYY: RHP Mike Mussina (6-1, 2.57 ERA)
Mussina's ERA is two runs lower than it had been the last two seasons, while he has been hit for an average (.217) 70 points lower. So his turnaround has been complete.
Mussina looks for his sixth consecutive win, taking on the Royals for the first time this season. Mussina has posted quality starts in each of his 10 outings this year, allowing as many as three earned runs in just three of those starts. He has held opposing batters to a .217 average this season, the fourth-best mark in the American League.
Player to watch
Derek Jeter is one hit away from 2,000 for his career, The Captain will be playing career game No. 1,571 on Friday. Of the eight prior Yankees to collect 2,000 hits, the only one to do it quicker was Joe DiMaggio, who reached the number in his 1,537th game.
The Royals didn't have much success in their first visit to Yankee Stadium, but Reggie Sanders crashed two home runs and had four RBIs. Those were his first homers in the Bronx.

That's what I figured it would be, I guess Sheffield isn't completely ready to return to RF yet. Cautious in this case makes a lot of sense.
And look at that the Yankee Legend that catches so much crap on this board, Bernie Williams, comes into the game 10 for his last 20.

Q: Your avatars suck! Can I use my own?
A: Sure, after you’ve posted your 5,000th post or you've been a member for 2 years.
Your custom avatar must be no larger than 90 pixels in width or height, and the file size no bigger than 25kb. Custom avatars can also not be animated GIFs.
Custom Avatars aren't allowed by default because we like to maintain the clean, organized look of the forum. Everyone having their own avatar from day one would be very distracting.
Avatar bashing in the FAQ!:P
Custom AVs are 5000 posts or can be purchased for 20$

Any bets on the type of hit? A line drive over the second baseman's head for a single seems to be the appropriate Jeterian hit (I can't believe I said Jeterian. A blatant case of creeping Sterlingism taking over my life).

I remember when I was about 12 years old, driving to the Stadium with my friend and his older brother (he was maybe 18) and walking up to the ticket window and getting main box seats about 12 rows back, right behind Home Plate. (Yankees/Royals actually, both teams were not good)
I know, back then they thought if they drew a million fans through the turnstiles that was a successful season. Times have changed.
Moose over 40 pitches in the 2nd inning. C'mon Moose, the bullpen needs all the rest it can get.
