Do you think it's possible Randy could mix in ONE average start for every 10 abysmal ones? Just one?
hobokenfish

Well, it was just a matter of time until they got the lead again. We didn't score last inning, which was big because Johnson can't get anyone out. It's time to give him the hook.

Thats pretty much nothing
I dunno... in my mind, we wanted to dump Melky after last year, or, at least, some people did, and now, he's batting .300, and showing that he is a decent prospect.
Why can't we do the same thing with Long?

Cone didnt in 2000. I'm telling you, this is the same exact thing all over again.
RJ is simply terrible. Seriously.....Erickson would give them a better chance. Embarrassing to say a guy with a 7 era over the last five years is currently a better option tonight, but he quite frankly is.
yankees27
05-24-06, 07:20 PM
I really think RJ's confidence is totally shot. He's not really this bad. This is probably the worst type of game to try to build his confidence. I mean these are our hated rivals in their own park and they are hitting the heck out of the ball.
I would move him to the end of the roation and consider him a #5 starter.
Just because he's the supposed #5 starter doesn't mean he's not gonna pitch big games. Isn't Wright our "#5" right now?

well, that's nice that you were right... but the problem as it exists is that the Yankees have Johnson and they better figure out a way to make it work. Johnson isn't going to be like he was, but he should be better than this.... he was last season. I could live with that guy.
Why, he's 42? Why does he have to be better than what we are seeing now? He's not above the ass whupping he is receiving on an every 5 day basis.

fine if people in new york want clemens thats fine...but dont expect him to have the cy young type year he had last year. He would have decent numbers, but his low era last year was just because hes in the NL..i personally dont want clemens...and besides, he told the yankees he was retiring and left, and than decided to pitch for the astros, and now we are gonna ask him to save us? come on and we'd pay him over 20 mill for just the season, we already have one aging pitcher on this team
well if you'd rather wait for randy johnson to work out his problems or for wang and chacon to become consistently quality outing type of guys thats fine. but dont count on having a chance to make the playoffs.
the yankees best shot of making the playoffs is either trade some good prospects for a good starter or sign clemens. i'd rather sign clemens than give up hughes or duncan.
btw, boston is better than ny right now and the only way ny makes the playoffs is if we become better than boston because the wildcard will be in the central this year. the tigers are the real deal and the white sox are right there with them

Torre should tell RJ that he is going to leave him in until he throws 120 pitches no matter what the score is. He can give up 15 runs, or he can pitch a shutout, but no matter what, he ain't leavin' until that 120th pitch is thrown.
