View Full Version : 5/23/06 - Yankees @ Red Sox (Wright vs. Wakefield)
nyyterp

wow, i don't like this matchup at all, but after the past 2 games, the yankees have to look for any opportunity to build on.
Pitching matchup (http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/news/mlb_probable_pitchers.jsp?c_id=nyy)
NYY: RHP Jaret Wright (1-3, 4.94 ERA)
The Red Sox fondly recall Wright's last start in Fenway Park: It came on the final day of the 2005 season, and resulted in the 10-1 victory that qualified Boston for the playoffs. Wright seems to be finding a groove, having allowed seven runs in his last three starts in 17 1/3 innings.
Wright looks to follow up a solid outing against the Rangers, in which he threw six scoreless innings before allowing three runs in the seventh. Wright went 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in two starts against the Red Sox last season, and he is 2-1 with a 6.23 ERA against Boston in his career.
BOS: RHP Tim Wakefield (3-5, 4.17 ERA)
Wakefield may feel more comfortable throwing to Mirabelli -- and it may be easier on Nation eyes -- but the truth is he was getting better results with Josh Bard as his partner. Wakefield had a 3.90 ERA in five April starts, and that number has risen to 4.50 in four starts since Mirabelli's return. This is one occasion on which the Yankees will not miss Hideki Matsui and Sheffield, as those two are hitting a combined .209 (14-for-67) against the knuckleballer.
Wakefield suffered a loss in his last start, giving up eight hits and four runs over seven innings. He is 1-0 with a 4.15 ERA in two starts against the Yankees this season. Wakefield is 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA in his first four starts of May. He was the winning pitcher in a 5-3 win over the Yankees on May 11, and is 2-4 with a 4.19 ERA in eight starts in the series the last two seasons.
Player to watch
Assuming a good night's sleep, Sheffield will be back in the Yanks' batter's box, if not in their outfield. While coping with a gradually worsening left-wrist sprain, Sheffield hit .250 (7-for-28) over his last seven games, reverting to April 25.
Yankees lineup:
Johnny Damon CF
Derek Jeter SS
Gary Sheffield DH
Alex Rodríguez 3B
Jorge Posada C
Robinson Canó 2B
Bernie Williams LF
Terrence Long RF
Andy Phillips 1B
no Melky, no Giambi... sigh... at least Sheffield is back. i guess he is as good as anyone to bat 3rd.

Terrence Long will hit a grand slam today .
A-Rod will hit a grand slam in the 9th inning with 2 outs and yankees behind 3 runs .
Ortiz will have 3 strikeouts and he will leave 10 men on base .
Same with Manny .
Wright will dominate .
Schilling will cry in the dugout .
I know it doesnt make sense , but atleast Schilling crying is quite possible .
