View Full Version : 5/22/06 - Yankees at Red Sox (Wang vs. Schilling)
nyyterp
05-22-06, 04:27 PM
I like this matchup and the injury depleted yankees need an emotional boost going into June. Red Sox lead the season series 3-1, and I would like to see NYY spanking Schilling.
(I am putting my unbeaten GT streak on the line for this. ;) )
NYY: RHP Chien-Ming Wang (4-1, 3.79 ERA)
Wang is 0-1 with a 4.41 ERA in three career games against the Red Sox. The Yankees are 5-4 in Wang's nine games started this season, averaging 5.1 runs per outing.
BOS: RHP Curt Schilling (6-2, 4.17 ERA)
During Schilling's recent four-game win streak, the right-hander has given up only five earned runs and four walks while striking out 23 in 28 innings pitched.
Player to watch
Alex Rodriguez (4-for-22, .182) and Jason Giambi (5-for-18, .278) may have just nine hits combined against Schilling, but five of those hits have been home runs.

lineup :
Johnny Damon DH
Derek Jeter SS
Jason Giambi 1B
Alex Rodríguez 3B
Jorge Posada C
Robinson Canó 2B
Bernie Williams, CF
Terrence Long LF
Melky Cabrera RF
we get Posada back, but we lose Damon in the field. Long in LF and Bernie in CF would normally spell trouble, but Wang is pitching, so the OF defense should hold up until the bullpen takes over.
i guess i like this lineup with this pitcher better than with any other pitcher.

Red Sox Lineup tonight
1. Kevin Youkilis, 1B
2. Mark Loretta, 2B
3. David Ortiz, DH
4. Manny Ramirez, LF
5. Trot Nixon, RF
6. Jason Varitek, C
7. Mike Lowell, 3B
8. Willie Harris, CF
9. Alex Cora, SS
-- Curt Schilling, SP
Wily Mo Pena strained his wrist in BP, much rather face Harris. Speedy, but can't hit.

How long are you normally out? I'm curious (for when it happens to me).We don't publicly discuss disciplinary actions taken with individual members out of respect to their privacy.
As to how long someone is normally out, it depends entirely on the immediate situation at hand, and that person's track record on the site. Suspensions can range from a few days to a complete ban. Game Thread access can also be restricted. Really, none of this happens very often, and we try to exercise good judgement and restraint in the rare instances that it is necessary.
I havn't noticed anything that would lead me to believe that you have anything to worry about. ;)
I'm happy to answer specific questions about policy to the best of my ability by PM. I really do not want to turn the GT into a forum for these issues.
Welcome everyone.

Since the all star break last year, Varitek is like a .240 hitter.Completely unrelated, but since the ASB last year, TampaBay is an over .500 ballclub.
Anybody else worried about these flyball outs.

I don't remember the last time we had a remotely decent backup catcher since Posada and Girardi split time in '99. Stinnett, Flaherty, Chris Widger, Todd Greene, Chris Turner....am I leaving anyone out?
If you are leaving anyone out, we wouldn't know his name.

I'm not accusing Lowell of anything, but he goes from being a terrible player last year to leading the team in doubles this year???
He's also playing at a field where the left field wall is 5 feet away from home plate

I would be if it was his sinkers that are flying out. I think he's mixing it up a lot with his slider. Correct me if I'm wrong.

maybe Wang is just a little too strong right now, so his ball is staying up...hopefully as he tires (or gets a better feel) his ball will start dipping down...

Yes but Fenway traditionally has a terrible field, the infield is hard and the outfield doesn't drain worth a crap

Off topic, but I'm watching the Cubs/Marlins game on Extra Innings between innings in the Yankee game. There's so few people in Dolphins Stadium that you can almost hear conversations among the spectators. A huge difference compared to the crowd at Fenway Park.
By the way, YES just lost the picture, so I had to switch over to NESN. Yuck.

The entire infield is brand new this year and so is the outfield, I believe.
