Ortiz and Manny continue to get it done ...

I'm not really worried about this game. Historically, spring has been theirs, the autumn ours. ;)
Well I guess that's the height of strange.
It's just a joke now every time that Ortiz comes to the plate with RISP against the Yankees. Seriously, the only way to get him out is to have no one on base.
Absolutely every single person in and around baseball asks the same question- why not move him off the plate every now and then? Only the Yanks seem to NOT think of this.
Actually, I think they do think of it, but it is a stubborn manifestation of not wanting to give in to the public perception of what to try. Whatever it is, they need to go a different route with him. Ortiz simply owns every Yankee.
yankees27
05-22-06, 08:22 PM
I seriously want to know how well Ortiz has to hit before we give him the Bonds treatment. Once it's 3-1, why the hell do you throw him a strike?
i never watch the red sox unless they're playing the Yankees, but it seems like if Ortiz hits like this all the time he'd be hitting .400 without breaking a sweat.....and Ramirez would have about 150 ribbies....oh wait....he usually does, doesn't he.....

Umm....the Yanks won the season series last year. The Sox had a few blowout wins, which may be the reason your perception is skewed. But last I looked, beating a team more than they beat you makes it tough to say you are owned.
Two good teams beating up on each other 19 times a year. Anyone believe in 2004, after the Yanks beat up on the Sox at the end of June, that the Sox were even making the playoffs?

Thanks ARod - Can alwasy count on you to hit a HR when we're down by 8.
I can't help but laugh... what can you say about ARod hitting a home run now?
If it helps him relax? fabulous

hahaha this is great momentum for tomorrow
Man......this is probably the most important thing in the game today. Foulke stinks. The Sox have Papelbon and a 40 year old holding the pen together....if either stumbles at all (and a 40 year old and unproven closer have that potential) they are in severe- SEVERE- trouble.

I don't have my radio on... I wonder if Sterling went into his back-to-back and a belly-to-belly shtick. Even he has enough sense not to do that in this game.

Well, duh because the worst pitcher in the Sox pen wouldn't have been in. Everyone is going to hit well in blowouts because they will face worse pitching.

Long is a better hitter. Reese might be a tad better in the field...but neither are really of much use. Why not Carlos Pena? DH Giambi, defense improves and you get a good OPS guy in the lineup against righties.

Turning point of the game: The absolutely moronic decision to pitch to Ortiz once it went 3-0 with men on second and third. He always has the green light and is extremely comfortable swinging at 3-0 get-me-over fastballs.
Say all you want about how Manny hit a HR anyway, in my opinion that changed the whole complexion of that inning.

Don't know if it can be described as "moronic" or not, but certainly the biggest pitch of the ballgame. He easily could have gotten a DP grounder from Manny- Wang seemed to briefly lose his concentration.

Yep- possibly the best they can put together. Though Bernie was swinging the bat well tonight.... But everyone there is either a decent hitter or has pop. No "outs", really.

Yeah, "moronic" is a strong word, but when you spend the first three pitches basically pitching around the guy, with nothing close, why would you not just finish the job and put him on first. Give Manny his props but he is not half the clutch hitter or Yankee-killer Ortiz is.

Im not worried about Long. He is a solid ML player and a decent fill in for now. He hasnt played many games this season and in his first with the Yanks he faced some tough pitching from Schilling. He should be able to contribute here and there for the club.

I dont know how much prep time he had but I know it wasnt the normal amount a player would get. Like I said, he's a solid player who could contribute. Its a little unfair to judge him based on tonight, especially when we're on the losing side of a loss to Boston.

Fine.. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt at the plate.re: Schilling
I don't know about 'decent'...but he was just that tonight... a 'fill in'..
His Defense tonight?..He looked lost out there..:( Granted..playing with the A's, Padres & Royals he hasn't had a lot of experience playing the 'Monsta'...I'll give him that.;)
