Mo will be back. It's RJ I'm worried about.
huh??
My point was this game means as little as it possibly can in the Yankee universe, as your opponent gains nothing on you in interleague play.
I've always hated the Mets games, simply because it puts undue stress on the Yanks (and MLB always likes to schedule the Sox right before or after as well to give the team seven full days of playoff-like atmospheres).
how does Mo go from the best season of his career in 05 to what has been thus far the worst?
To be fair, last year was his worst as far as command. He had a phenomenal year...but when he added the 4-seamer he lost his pinpoint control. This year he's been all over the place.
He had a great slider in the mid-90's....wonder if he ever thinks about adding it.

I dont know the boston games progress, or toronto, but if either of them won tonight, then this game definitely means something.
And if either of them lost, then it means that we blew the chance to gain a game on them.
So actually, these games are just the same as if we played an AL central or AL west opponent.

I agree.
Big picture, with all the injury trouble, 1.5 out of first is pretty good. But it's hard to ignore just how bad RJ is and how troubling Rivera's season has been. Right now of you put this team in the postseason, they'd be meat. Even with Matsui and Sheffield back. Plenty of time left in the season, but still what we saw tonight is about more than just one loss.

Nah, I'd have walked them both and gone after Nady.
If you consider Wright a .320 hitter and Nady a .260, you are looking at a 6% larger chance for a basehit.
Add the fact that Mo's control hasn't been great, the chance for a WP or passed ball, a swinging bunt or other typical MO bleeder, or the tensing up of guys like A-rod and Cano on defense when they have to make the play? Much better % to attack Wright rather than push the runners up and load the bases.

No....of course ALL games are important...but other than teams like the Royals and such, losing a game to teams you could potentially compete for the WC with are easily more detrimental than to a team that isn't in your league.
Additionally, it tweaks the balance of power. Mets have always gotten the shaft...how do they feel having to play the Yanks 6 times while teams like the Cards get the Royals???

I wouldn't mind seeing that either. But the cutter he throws isn't really a slider- it doesn't change planes that much. It just veers hard to the left. His slider (if you watch Game 5 of the '95 playoffs, watch that thing- just sick) had excellent tilt. The ability to change planes with a pitch would be helpful.

But some of his cutters does change planes at times... not as much as a biting slider but the tilt is somewhat there... It really isn't that much of a change from his cutter... A changeup however is very different on a couple of levels... His smooth pitching motion makes it hard to detect it and it can help when the velocity on his cutter is off...

Martinez has given up 4 runs twice and 3 runs twice this season. His ERA is 3.19 and thats pitching in the NL. He is no doubt a great pitcher, but can definitely be gotten to. He is not dominant anymore, he is just very effective and a great competitor. So far this year, Moose has been a better pitcher than he has and if Moose throws at all like he has been, we should be able to win this game.

As a starter, Mo had a 4-seam, 2-seam, and a change. He said he doesn't throw it now because it comes out at such a different angle than the cutter that there is no deception. I either heard this during a game or on some other piece of YES programming. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here.

Are you talking about his change? The arm angle shouldn't be any different from his cutter/fastball... Now if he was talking about his slider, then that would be more likely...
