Can anyone name a specific player that hurt the Yankees like Ortiz does? I am 32 and have never seen anyone kill the Yanks like Ortiz, the second player I can think of was Edgar Martinez. Older fans looking in your direction.

George Brett used to do serious damage against the Yankees.
George Brett. However, looking at his HOF career, he killed every team actually.

Juan Gonzalez seemed to always kill us but his numbers vs the Yankees actually arent that amazing

He doesn't do it to the extent that Ortiz does, but during one of the Blue Jays games, somebody posted Hillenbrand's numbers vs. the Yankees compared to his career numbers and his numbers vs the Yankees were great, while he was average vs. everyone else.

was about to say that...
also Brian Roberts kills the Yankees, even before last year when he wasn't that good a player.

When he was in the AL, Ken Griffey Jr. used to kill the Yanks regularly.

Seemed like Geronimo Berroa used to wear Yankees pitching out, but not to the extent Ortiz does.

I have no idea how to look up how a player did against a particular team throughout his career however, I seem to recall Doug DeCinces being quite successsful against the Yankees.
Chuck Finley use to own us.

Chone Figgins used to bug the crap out of us but I think he slowed down a bit in the playoffs last year and this season so far.

Didn't Jay Buhner always give the Yankees fits after they traded him to Seattle?

George Brett with the bat and Larry Gura with the ball always killed the Yanks back in the day. And I remember that Matt Keough was a mediocre pitcher against every other team, but seemed to always pitch well against the Yanks. Hitters who seemingly always hurt us who come to mind are Griffey Jr., Edgar Martinez, and Mo Vaughn.

Doug DeCines was a career .259/.329/.445 hitter, but only put up a .235/.315/.434 line against the Yankees.

314/386/529 average in his three years in Boston against the Yankees. He had 10 HR's against the Yankees. The next nearest team was 6. He had the most RBI's against them too.

Edgar Martinez.....he is prob the only hitter who could say that he owned Mo. And I still have nightmares about the 1995 DS.
Other guys that come to mind:
Hillenbrand
Danys Baez
Chone Figgins
Jay Buhner

Yanks did seem to struggle with him in the mid-late 90s, but then there was one game where I think O'Neill and Bernie both took him deep, and after that the Yankees seemed to have some more success against him.
Well if we wanna throw pitchers in the mix...Teddy Higuera comes to mind

His prime was during NY's forgettable 80's/early to mid 90's era though wasnt it?

I read that Walter Johnson had 60 of his wins vs. the Yankees and that makes Frank Lary look like a piker.

Interesting, but there were only 8 teams in the AL when Johnson played. And back then, guys would have like 40 decisions a year. Plus, Johnson pitched for 20 years. So I guess it all adds up to lots of wins against all of the AL teams. How many losses to the Yanks did he have? And how many wins did he have against the other 6 teams?

And he is one of the best pitchers ever, if not the best. He killed every team but not only the Yankees.

I didn't mean it as a slam, I just thought it was interesting. I can't find his W/L vs. the Yankees.

anybody on the sox since 2003. loretta just got there and owns us already. renteria was terrible last year but he killed us.
bur seriously im with you on ortiz. i dont remember anybody since ive been watching (late 80's) that comes close. edgar martinez owns the yanks like manny owns the yanks. its a normal owning. david ortiz more then owns us. never had a quiet game. even tonight he's 0 for 4. but hes got an rbi. i cant remember the last 0 for 4 with no rbi or offensive contribution period from ortiz vs the yankees. i guess i would have to see the numbers but i cant buy george brett owning the yanks like ortiz. probbaly more like manny or edgar.
