Well Jeter and Cano as well as Wang in the first game. But in both games, Joe Torre has seemed to believe that Wang was just pretending to suck.

If Wang comes out to start the fifth, I'll punch my computer.

MisterNovember

Fire Torre. Bunting there is such a boneheaded decision it's not even funny.
8 runs have been scored and the game isn't even half over. And Torre is playing for a one run lead.

Pathetic decision-making. Just pathetic.

Bernie caught sleeping... And that is EXACTLY why you don't have Damon bunt.

Did you expect Joe to forsee that his 15 year veteran would wander off second base like the "slow" kid on a last place Little League team? Its not Joe's fault that Sheffield and Bernie couldn't execute.

With the bases loaded and one out, Sheffield hit a pop up to shallow left. Berroa made the play and then threw to second to double off Bernie, who was apparently sleeping a few steps away from the bag.

When you have a team built like the Yankees (lots of K's and walks and power) you don't give up outs. Especially with a good hitter like Damon at the plate. It's a proven fact that this will result in less runs during the course of the season.

That's not the point. With the "meat of the order" coming up, you don't give up an out like that.

It's all in hindsight. If Jeter hits the ball to the right side, we get a run home, and stay out of the DP, it ends up being a good move. If they do nothing with RISP (like what happened), it's a bad move. Sac bunts have plenty of value

Not true. Bunting in that situation increases the chances of you scoring one run, but it decreases the chances of scoring more than one run. Studies have proven this, again and again.

If it was in the 9th, I'd agree with the call. But the 4th inning with of a game where 8 runs have already scored? What a joke.

Or you can say that with the meat of the order, you want guys in scoring position and to stay out of the DP. I don't necessarily love the bunt there, but it's not a terrible play either. What was terrible was Sheff once again spitting the bit with RISP and Bernie napping off of 2B.

No, I expect Joe to realize that this team is not built around small ball. I expect Joe to realize that Damon is too good of a hitter to be giving up an out. I expect the manager of this team to realize that it is a proven fact that bunting men over will cost the team runs over the course of a season. I expect the manager to realize that this team is built around "big ball" and playing small ball with a "big ball" team does not work and is counterproductive. Lastly, I expect the manager of the team to realize that we should not be playing for a run in the 4th inning of a tie game when our pitcher is struggling. Maybe that's asking too much from the man - I don't know.

Call me a homer, but unless a player is consistently bad for the better part of a season (see Womack), you just don't stop pulling for him, and you certainly don't dis him--on a Yanks forum, with non-Yanks fans here (probably giggling)

It's not in hindsight at all. Sac bunts do not have value (unless you have a pitcher or a Womack type player at the plate). They hurt your teams chances of scoring the most amount of runs.

For that brief moment, perhaps. It doesn't change the fact that Bernie's best days are far behind him and there are better options.
