I wouldn't say we're doomed. I would say that the defense, managing, pitching, and complete lack of depth has already reared its ugly head 3 games in.

WE'RE DOOMED! Gimme a break people.

I do agree that some of the comments are a bit over-the-top.

However, we're witnessing some pretty scary things go wrong that I am not sure are going to go away this year.

This defense is pretty brutal. And I don't see it getting any better. I worry about how a guy like Wang is going to fair with these fielders behind them.

The offense again appears like it's going to be feast or famine. Maybe this will change over time, but we saw this all last year and are seeing it again this year.

I am not by any means writing off the season. I think the Yankees are one of the handful of teams that can make the playoffs in the AL.

But I am seeing some things that are a bit worrisome.

i really like torre, but his pen management is just autrocious. i was ok with bringing wright initially, as it was still pretty early, but after 2 innings, uh you have much better options joe.

there is no reason for proctor to be pitching the 9th in a tie game on the road and wright to be starting a 3rd inning in the 8th with all the options he had. especially given that he put in sturtze AND villone in a 15-1 game.

..... ????

True, our defense lost us the game tonight. Torre finished it off.

Are you saying the Yankees shot the A's in the chest, but didn't kill them, and Torre heard them still breathing and came in with a Bazooka and finished the job? ;)

Some of us wanted to sign Frank Thomas. (Although, in all honesty, I don't remember if I was completely on that bandwagon).

Sturtze is not much better. This pen is no great shakes without Farnsworth being really good.

Yep. And when someone does question him, he just stops doing their show. He no longer does the YES postgame because he thought that the legit questions were coming from Steinbrenner. I also heard he no longer does Kay's show because he doesn't like how he calls him out on him decisions.

I saw earlier in the thread that someone likes Joe, but thinks he manages the bullpen poorly. Isn't that really the #1 in game facet of a manager, ESPECIALLY of the Yankees, who basically have a static 1-9? If you don't like his bullpen management, you don't like him as a manager. Because he's not really doing anything else. Except for keeping all of the "personalities" in check.

i really hope this isnt a repeat of last season. youd think george would get some good pitchers in the offseason instead of the ones from the cutout bin. not impressed with pitching at all, and the defense leaves alot to be desired. God i love the Yankees but theyre playing like .................

I just wish it were someone brighter than Kay asking the tough questions. It would mean a lot more if someone pointed out to Joe in their questioning that you want your best pitcher pitching in the late innings tied on the road, not saving them for when you have a lead.

You think Torre can now see that batting Damon and Cano 1 and 9 is utterly retarded?

I sure hope so.

There is zero reason to panic. There is zero reason to look at this team's flaws.

Because, if you do so, you will just be met with sarcastic comments like, "We're doomed!" for the 54,545 time.

Also, even if this team starts off slowly and plays like complete horse ................, there is also no need to look at its flaws because it will just be parroted that "They started off 11-19 last year."

Torre excuses last game: possible double header, will not use RP on consecutive days.

This game: not a double header, he used RP on consecutive days.

For once, pls be consistent.

i agree wtih u. this team if it gets off to another slow start cannot repeat last year.

they need a good quick start. and torre's killing that.

Sturtze is not much better. This pen is no great shakes without Farnsworth being really good.

I agree that without farnsworth being really good and without dotel the pen is in rough shape, but IMO wright is just autrocious. when we needed someone to go in the 6th i was ok with it, but in the 8th after wright has already pitched 2 it is time for someone else.

i am probably overreacting to torre because of last night, but I still think he handled the pen wrong.

I am not a doomsayer at all though. I am really unhappy with how the last two games worked out, of course, but I still have high hopes for the season. Some things didnt go our way, we made some bad errors, it is not like this is all the pens fault, given we made 3 really bad errors, but they are things which can be worked out.

so i am not predicting doom and gloom at all, but these couple of games did suck.

161 and River Ave.

This is all Joe Torre's fault

If you bring Mo into every tie game in the 9th on the road, you're gonna wear him out.

Baseball is a marathon, you can't burn out in July, as we saw in Sturtze, that won't work.

I don't love what Joe has done, but I can understand it. Tonight, Wright was pitching GREAT. I mean, no one was getting anything off him, so why take him out. I understand why, but you shouldn't take a guy out because "he's due" to start sucking. That's no way to manage a baseball team.
