View Full Version : Congrats to Phil Allard - He was hired by WCBS880!
NYYFans.com columnist Phil Allard (Click Here For His Archive (http://www.nyyfans.com/staff.php?a=archive&userid=95)) has been hired by WABC 880 to cover the Yankees for www.newsradio88.com. Phil has been writing for NYYF since 2004 and has been a member of the forum (hardrain) since 2003. Phil is also a scriptwriter for ESPN's Ringside Boxing Shows. Fortunately for us, he'll still be providing exclusive content to NYYF as his time permits (or as long as he has some Vivarin and a double-double-espresso). I'm very happy for Phil and am extremely proud to call him one of our own.
He even told me he's going to use his new connections to get an exclusive interview with Derek Jeter for NYYF. Okay, I'm making that up. Or maybe I'm just trying to drop a not-so-subtle hint? ;)
Again, congratulations to Phil!

Ah shucks, thanks everyone. I will do my best to spread the gospel of Yankee fanhood with CBS. I think the more writers that come from fan sites, the better the internet will be. After all, the passion is at places like NYYFANS and SoSH. (Ours is rightious passion; theirs is misguided, of course.)
I suspect I might get fired by week two when I start writing about Torre's in- game decisions, but thank God Womack is gone. We will see what happens.
Thanks again for the kind words! And thanks to Jim for giving me a chance to write for NYYFANS (which I will continue to do.)

Yep. That's something I agree with and it would make a fine article. The guy works as hard as anyone. His only fault is he may overthink at times. His transition to 3rd was amazingly smooth too.

hardrain
03-30-06, 02:32 PM
Lou, and all ya friends,
I will have a column every Friday with CBS, but I am hesitant to post every time I have one there because I want people to be spending their time here too. I took less money so that I could post the same articles here too (most of the time, except for ones they set up for me. I can't double post it if they set something up for me. Also, my virgin CBS article today was not to be double posted)
But I will let everyone know when I am on the radio...this is all unfolding. I suspect I won't be on until later in April when they are home for a spell.
One thing: I am not a business man. I am a fan. That's more important.
Also: Ain't Archer sweet for a Sox fan :)
OMG Phil you're gonna be on the radio too? YES!

Let's face it. I have a face made for radio!
Being on the radio was mentioned at the meeting at CBS studios when I went to pitch my idea for a column about Nothing. The whole thing was very Seinfeld. They said to just write for a few weeks while we figure things out. But the getting on the radio part came up several times and all the suits seemed to be in favor of it. Late April. Who knows? But that's what they said.

Kay is an assfrog. Sterling I like, though. He can do singalong with Suzyn.

That's the thing, I don't think of myself as being in the media. I am just your normal obsessive Yankee fan with a decent IQ who loves to write. If I try to be a "writer" then I will be doomed.

Anyone who goes to Yankee Stadium to boo A-Rod is delusional, jealous, or a Red Sox fan. (Therapy is available for the fist two afflictions. If you are saddled with the latter ailment, I’m afraid there is no hope.)

Phil - I don't know if I should ask this here, or e-mail you there...LOL!
I'm glad to see someone who sees the reality in the shortcomings of this 2006 group in a similar vein to the way I do. Of course, I've been taking my life into my own hands at The Stadium by complaining about Bernie's defense for years...!
One question, though: you say you're comfortable with Posada as the everyday catcher, but doesn't his penchant for slowing down and becoming a offensive invisibility after the All-Star Break worry you at all?
Just wonderin'...

Hopefully Joe will realize that Po needs to rest more. He has said a few times this Spring that he knows that. I'd like to see Stinnett catch more often than Flaherty did. We'll see
Actually, Jorge picked it up a little down the stretch last year.
For runs created over the last three years, Posada ranks second:
2003-2005
All catchers
RC
1 Javier Lopez 273
2 Jorge Posada 259
3 Jason Kendall 257
4 Jason Varitek 253
5 Ivan Rodriguez 241
6 Mike Lieberthal 207
7 Victor Martinez 202
8 Paul Lo Duca 191
9 A.J. Pierzynski 186
10 Ramon Hernandez 179
