View Full Version : Albert Pujols: Worthy of an Option?

At $47 bucks the price is steep. Albert has been a fantasy stud the last 4-5 years. Would you option him at $47 in order to retain his rights for another season.
I know there is a good chance he could be had for cheaper, but is the risk of throwing him back and not having him worth almost 1/5 of your salary.
If it were you what would you do?
Keep him. :) And take any advice offered by your competing owners with a whole mine's worth of salt. ;)

No way should you keep Pujols at that price.

My girlfriend keeps telling me to get him at the auction (she only knows from the cover of fantasy magazines that he's good).
"You should buy him."
and then whenever he come to the plate for the DR in the WBC, she always brings it up "You should get Pujols, sweetie. He's a stud."

Yeah I know, but I confided in my uncle who has been doing a rotis like ours for 20 years in AL only setting and I trust him.
He said Pujols $4.70 (they do $.10 values) gives me similar stats as some other players I have in mind. And taking away 1/5 of my roster value.
Danged if I do and danged if I don't.

That may be an NL only number. Pujols doesn't project to more than 42 or 43 in mixed leagues.

Correct, the projections according to rototimes have him as 2nd to ARod though.

He's a few dollars overpriced. But he'll probably go for that anyway if you let him go. No one would fault you for keeping him.

Met her last November, got serious the 1st of the year. I made her project my keepers when we woke up Saturday morning. I had two magazines, and my roster from last year with their salaries. We'd go down the list one by one and read the blurbs on the players and their projected values. Then she would tell me if he should stay or not. Good times.
Oh, and yes, I'll be in Vegas starting Wednesday night, my man.:)

The only thing I think that keeps you from optioning him is - we'll all have significantly less money at the auction. Some of us blew our loads early last year, resulting in some obscene auction results.
He may go cheaper than $47 this year....

He may go cheaper than $47 this year....I make a motion that any load blowing during the draft this year will result in a $25 penalty.
You guys need to control yourselves.

Your point has really been my line of thinking the entire time.

No way is heck my woman would do that and she loves baseball.
Enjoy Vegas watch out of Winthrop, Wichita, Utah St., S. Illinois, Bradley, and Iona.

Oh yes, no one can forget Guillermo! ;)
I think there is a good possibility he could go lower, but that is the risk I would be taking.

Wouldn't you want everyone to blow their loads?
1) That leaves you with more money to get players later
2) I thought you were down with bukkakes

What's the possibility he goes higher, though? No way he gets to $50. I'd throw him back.
