Cashman has a group of sabermetricians that works for him.
thats nice to know is that more or less the norm now for all teams?

That's good to hear. Boston has embraced sabermetrics and it's encouraging to know that Cashman does too. Makes me a bit more optimistic about the future. :)
Kudos to gurgie for providing that link!

I pretty sure that he doesn't adhere to them as his only source, though- he uses the advanced statistical metrics as a significant tool in doing his job, but doesn't run the team using only them.
Wow, never would I thought that Cashman would use sabermetrics. That's refreshing to hear.
Now maybe we could pry off Bill James from that other team ;)

Thanks for the link, gurgie.
While I was exploring the site, I also took a look at Fangraphs http://www.fangraphs.com/index.aspx . This is an amazing bit of work and is hugely beneficial to someone like me that has trouble digesting all the numbers. Being able to look at them as graphs makes it much easier for a me. They say it is updated daily during the season. I believe I will find this most helpful.
Each player is graphed for BA, OBP, SLG, BB%, K%, BB/K, ISO, BABIP, RC/G, and LD/GB/FB. It also allows you to graph player comparisons as well as graphing splits. Just for example purposes, here is Damon, Pierre and Hunter OBP:

Anyway, like I said, for someone that is more visually inclined and new to stats, this is extremely helpful. I am looking forward to the daily graphs as the season develops.
yes it true those graphs are very nice way to look at some ones numbers in context of time and reltive to the leuage. the Hard ball Times also does a daily graph thing that show info like % of pitches out of the strike zone swung at and other cool stuff
Thanks for the link, gurgie.
