I hadn't seen any final decision about him yet, and just heard on WFUV that he said he won't be ready. Sorry, no link, but good news for the yanks.

If he's out of the WBC then I'm glad to hear it. I don't want any of our pitchers to have dead arm during a pennant race because he had to start throwing hard in January. (And I hope the whole thing is a failure. We know that it's more about hype and marketing than about international competition. )

Good, I am very pleased with this news. As much as I want to see the WBC and Team USA win I really want the Yankees to stay healthy and win the World Series.

Fantastic news.....save that arm for October

It's ridiculous that he's getting killed in Panama for not participating. He's a closer for f*ck's sake. Bruce Chen won't even have a lead for him to save.

If Mo was a position player like Carlos Lee I could understand the criticism a bit more.

Bruce Chen is from Panama?

This is great news for all of us WBC haters. No need to put ANY unnecessary innings on that extremely valuable arm.

Bruce Chen is from Panama? That he is. 5% of the population of Panama is of Chinese origin due to the immigrants that came to build the Panama railroad.

We need his deadly buzzsaw cutter for the playoffs. Mo is the bread and butter of this team since 1995 and without him, the Yankee bullpen will be severely tested.

So with Mo, Robinson Cano, Hideki Matsui, Jorge Posada out, there will be three, four, or five Yankees playing in the WBC?

U.S.: A-Rod, DJ, and Johnny Damon
Chinese Taipei: Chien-Ming Wang?
Puerto Rico: Bernie Williams?

Great news. He needs to prepare for the season at hand and also be ready for October. On a separate note, another blow to the Bud Games.

I thought that from the start it was said that it wasn't that likely that Rivera was going to participate...

You're right, but Rivera also never seemed to make a public decision. He was always leaning against and made the "I don't want to play if we can't win" comment but he had continued to get pressure and remained (publicly at least) in question. But yes, this is really just confirmation of what most people figured was the case anyway.

Cairo as well.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Miguel Cairo on VEN.

Well if you're counting ALL the Yankees participating, Mendoza (Panama), Villone (Italy), and Leiter (USA) are also listed on the provisional rosters. As is minor leaguer Omir Santos (PR).

This whole thing annoys me. Is it over yet?
