I'm goin the last week of June. Staying at the Luxor. Me, the gf, her sister, and her sister's bf. I know there have been threads about this before, but what should I not miss when I'm out there?
I definately want to see a Cirque du Soliel show but I don't know what one. I want to see Blue Man, but is it the same show as in NYC or Boston (which I saw 2 years ago)? What else do you recommend?

You should definitely look up the old threads. If I remember correctly there is a lot of good information in them.
"O" is, by far, the best Cirque show.
I've only seen BMG in Boston but I know people who have seen it in a few cities and say it is pretty much the same everywhere. There are plenty of things to see in Vegas. I would see something new instead of BMG for a second time.
It will be hot as hell when you are out there. If you like laying out you will be dying outside by the Luxor's pool where sun penetrates off the pyramid and makes it like 20 degrees hotter than it really is.
I've been there a bunch of times and I'm actually planning another trip sometime in the next few months. If you need anything specific feel free to PM me.
You will have an awesome time. Vegas is the bomb. :gulp: :gulp: :gulp:
Edit: Definitely go to Rumjungle in Mandalay Bay. It's a sweet bar.

Jim and I saw "O" last year and it was outstanding - I would definitely recommend it highly!
If you're going to have a car and the temperature isn't too toasty taking a drive to Red Rock Canyon and/or Valley of Fire State Park would be fun if you like outdoorsy type stuff - lots of cool rock formations there! Hoover Dam is another must-see outside of Las Vegas.
There are so many great restaurants I'm sure that every person will recommend you something different and they will all be great. If you're into buffets the one at the Bellagio was incredible with a lot of unusual kinds of food.
Just make sure you explore a lot whether it's by going up and down the strip and checking out all the different casinos or taking a drive outside of Las Vegas - so many cool things to see and do!

I'm going in June. When should I start looking at shows. I doubt they're on sale 6 months in advance right?

I saw Le Reve at Wynn Las Vegas last month. It was superb. I'd recommend it in an instant. The I don't know if the Blue Man show in Vegas is different from NY, but the theater is much much larger. I'd imagine that would effect the show, but I'm not sure at all.
Luxor is a great hotel... a little low on the strip -- it will be a pain to get to the other end, like where Mirage, Venetian, and Wynn are -- but I've stayed there before and had a fantastic time. They also have a VERY trendy and cool nightclub called "Ra".
I'd suggest getting a map of the strip, learning the lay of the land, and finding out which casinos have shows or attractions you are interested in. Plan which ones are must sees, and which you could live without. Make sure you know what you want to do before you go.

I recommend blackjack, craps, sports betting, CHII, and Fatburger. Don't waste good gambling money on restaurants and shows. ;)

I'm going to second Deborah's suggestion of the Bellagio buffet. It's absolute heaven!
Rio Buffet is also spectacular.
Check out the Food Network and the Travel Channel. They have shows about Vegas restaurants all the time!

I took that tour my last trip to Vegas..I highly recommend it :2thumbs:

Since there are two couples going you guys should definitely check out the Venetian and go on a gondola ride.
Definitely make sure to go to the Voodoo Lounge (in the Rio) and/or Ghost Bar (The Palms) one night. The views are awesome.

Yeah and Voodoo Lounge is up on Rio's roof. I didn't think I was going to like the Voodoo Lounge and one of my friends made me go last June and it was awesome. Better than Ghost Bar in my opinion. Ghost Bar really is a "ghost bar" - it's a room painted all white with an outside balcony - plus 3/4 of the crowd is there just to be where the Real Worlders hung out. Voodoo Lounge has a better atmosphere, IMO.
I was walking through MGM for the first time back in November and came across there lion exhibit. At that time they had two male lions on display. It's free and I thought pretty cool considering I had never seen lions that close before. It's located in the middle of the casino.

vegas is awesome. i went like 2 1/2 years ago when i was 19. I stayed at circus circus. The whole strip is 4 miles long so I don't think you would want to walk it. They have trolleys that are really good and they run very frequently. i went to all of the hotels. I would love to go back someday that I am now 22. I had to stay up in the indoor amusement park while my parents gambled.

Stratosphere is great fun but in not such a cool spot. the north end of strip. I would definatley see the O as everyone has said, It is really amazing. Be sure to check out the downtown too, its a whole diffrent feel from the strip, also Ra at the Luxor is a good spot at night. If you like boating Lake Mead is not too far away, there are lots of cool things you will find just walking down the street.

Both Cirque shows are great - but "O" is absolutely amazing. I've seen a bunch of Cirque shows, and it's by far the best one I've seen. If you can get to it, definitely go.
As for other things, I'd recommend just walking around the different hotels. It's a very cool place - the big theme hotels (NYNY, the Venitian, Luxor, etc) are pretty incredible, just because of how elaborate they are. It always amazes me how much design and thought goes in to all of them.
Just explore. It's a fun place.

I lived there for 9 years (left a little over 2 years ago). Just soak it all in and enjoy it and if I can possibly answer any questions just let me know. Most of the posts about where to go were right on. It will be scorching hot, regardless of how "dry" that heat is, but the nights are nice to sit outside (preferably with misters on the patio). Lake Mead (Hoover Dam) is 10 degrees hotter than whatever the temp in the city is. You'll be having too much fun to worry about the heat anyway. The Grand Canyon is a 4-5 hour drive from Vegas.
Here's a new attraction at the west rim (2 1/2 hours from Vegas) of the GC to open this summer, that looks really cool:
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/traveloutdoors/2002722460_grandcanyonbridge08.html
"DOLAN SPRINGS, Ariz. — You get chills just thinking about it. Here at the West Rim of the Grand Canyon, the Hualapai Indians are building a glass walkway that will extend out over the canyon floor 4,000 feet below.
Think about it.
Nothing but a piece of glass between you and the Colorado River almost a mile below. Called the Skyway, the glass structure will cantilever out in a semicircle 70 feet from the cliff wall.
It's expected to be ready sometime this summer."
You could be the first one on there. Test it out and make sure its safe!

If you're spontaneous and flexible, I say you check out the giant Coke bottle (it's by the MGM Grand)...if you go there everyday at noon, they offer half-price show tickets...the only thing is, the show is that very night, so you need to be flexible. But I went and saw two shows the last time and saved a buttload of money

Awesome. Thanks for the tip. I dunno if standing outside at noontime is gonna go over well if tix aren't guaranteed, but i'll keep it in mind.

It's really not that bad, the line moves very quickly and they have these screens up that tell you what tickets are available and at what price...plus it's indoors so you won't be in the heat. Just get there right at noon or a little early for the best tix

Vegas is awesome!! You can't go there and not have a blast!! :)
Lots of great suggestions. Be sure to check out all the hotels. They have a ton of attractions and they are all so different. You can see a circus, beautiful light shows, amusement park rides, pirates, white tigers, ride on a gondola, etc. We often walked through the hotels during the day and had a meal in a different one for lunch.

There is a drink there, the Voodoo Doll, that I want to go back to Vegas just to have! But the view is definitely outstanding from up there!

7:25AM local time and it's 86 degrees there. I can't wait.
I'm going to reserve a car rental later today. How far is it to Red Rocks and/or the Hoover Dam? What else is out there worth driving to (I've been to the Grand Canyon twice so I don't want to spend another day there)?

What a great time we had. I loved it! The shows were great, although "O" made us a little sleepy towards the end with all the new-age music and stuff. We had front row seats for Penn & Teller. I HIGHLY recommend them. Hilarious and great tricks - even up close I couldn't tell how they did it. The food was top notch and the bars were great.
Now I gotta plan to go back with my friends and not the GF.

Yup...closed with it. They had two cops come up from the crowd to ensure everything was "real". I'd love to know how they pulled that one off.

That's it? Vegas has cooled of in the a.m. since I moved away from there. Sorry, I didn't catch this post sooner or I could have pointed you in the right direction. Used to live near Red Rock. See any wild burros or desert tortoises?
Hoover Dam was cool when you could go all the way down to the bottom. They cut a lot of the tour since 9/11 as it is a major terrorist threat/target.

We just got back from Vegas about half an hour ago... We missed two major incidents by mere seconds.
On the night of the 4th, some moron in a car tried to attack a bicycle cop at the corner of Flamingo and the Strip (right in front of Bourbon Street Hotel/Casino). The cop's partner shot the perpetrator. We were the first car stuck in the turn lane trying to get off the Strip onto Flamingo. We had to wait maybe 15 minutes and then the cops redirected us in the exact opposite direction. It took us over an hour to get back to Bally's (where we stayed). And, yes, we saw the body. And the paramedics. And lots and lots and LOTS of cops.
Then... on the drive back home, a cop car suddenly started weaving across all lanes of traffic with its sirens and lights on. That's a standard tactic to slow traffic on the highway. There was an SUV in front of me so I couldn't quite see what was going on or where the cop was heading. So I at the highway merge/divide, I headed towards the 10. Unfortunately, that's right where the cop went. This time we were the second car that was stopped. I think someone flipped their car. Again, we got to see paramedics in action.
Now that we're safe at home... we're staying here! (At least until tomorrow!)
