You might be surprised how tasty it is if it was prepared right. The worst thing people do is overcook it so hopefully it won't be dry.

The bf makes good venison chili, so hopefully he'll get it right with this too. He has a lot of buddies who hunt so we get moose, elk, and venison pretty frequently.

The venison meat loaf was pretty good! I may have the leftovers this eve but my tummy is bothering me a bit from some pizza I had for lunch.

I bought the ingredients for the crock-pot chicken paprikash I will be attempting tomorrow. Key word--attempting! It involves browning the chicken beforehand, something I've never actually done before. :o

Yes, the bf's grandmother came from Hungary and the way his mom makes it is from her recipe. I called her to ask a Q about the sauce actually.

The sauce, after I took the chicken out, was more of a dark reddish/orange color due to the paprika. I thickened it with sour cream which made it sort of browner though.

I ordered and picked up from a Japanese teppanyaki place tonight. I couldn't believe they had such a cool place in this small city. They have this cool little bridge that goes over a little pond in the front of the restaurant (inside). There's an open dining area for people who just want to order from the kitchen. Then they have separate rooms and chefs for each group of people who want the teppanyaki experience. Hopefully Aaron and I will go there on Sunday.

Well, at least you didn't have any sandwiches on the menu. :P

I had a regular salad today, but some add-ins at the deli which cooks great stuff (albeit fer $8.79/lb).

My green leaf and a little red leaf (some of it was going bad), then some tomato, some lamb sausage I'd found in my freezer, and some deli cold cuts, were picked up with some roasted portabellos, penne w/marinara, some corkscrew, eggs, fava beans (Anthony Hopkins style), and some cauliflower.

Hmm..I don't know if it'll liquefy like the jelly kind, but who knows. Little bits of cranberry probably wouldn't hurt matters.

What kind of seasonings, Danielle? Too much salt is always bad, but was it too much pepper?

Let's see if I can remember everything: paprika, poultry seasoning, garlic, garlic powder, oregano, dried basil, w/chickn broth and a little oil whisked together (that is per the recipe). For the paprika I did 3 parts sweet to 1 part hot. Maybe the hot did it--or the poultry seasoning which I had to buy special.

If berries don't liquefy after 7 hours in a crockpot, cooking them ahead of time isn't likely to help! I just don't want the "covers" of the berries to be wandering around my meal!

Well, that's what I mean. You can cook it down and then strain it to get rid of the skins. Or you can go the grocery store and buy $1.29 can of cranberry sauce. I suspect I know what your decision will be.

I can't remember why I didn't like it - maybe it was too sweet? My wife wasn't a fan, either.

It's not much of recipe. Years ago I had it at a restaurant and I was raving about it and she said "I can make this" - and she did.

She buys lump (non previously frozen) crabmeat and scallops from the supermarket, chops it up a bit and mixes it with diced garlic (precooks it to soften it), breadcrumbs, mayo, and old bay seasoning. Rolls a piece of sole around it, Adds salt, pepper, olive oil, a little white wine and wraps it in foil and places it in a 450 oven for 20 minutes or so. I think that's pretty much it.

She usually makes extra and puts them in the freezer. And it seems like those ones are even better after being defrosted.

Irish? :-shrug-: It's the way this Dutchman does it. :D It's really good and it's quick. Think otherwise you may have to simmer the brisket a good couple of hours and a half at least. We cook the corned beef, cabbage, small red potatoes and carrots all together.

We have three pressure cookers to choose from. It's not a good idea to overstuff a pressure cooker. Sometimes we'll halve a good-sized corned beef. Put it in the bottom of the cooker ... usually on top of the little round tray the pressure cooker comes with. Don't forget to add half of the seasoning packet! Also halve the cabbage and then wedge the half down into fours. Put a nice sum of the red potatoes in and 1/2 - 1 lb of baby carrots and at least four cups of water. Close the cooker and heat at about medium-high until pressure builds up and then turn down to medium or 5 ... and cook for 45 minutes of jiggling time. Then cool the cooker down under running water until pressure is released. Is still gonna be really hot and could burn your mouth if you eat right away. Watch out!

Well, if Trishie has something to say about my fried chicken or chicken wings, Ryan & Vicki about my boiled meat (I guess they don't have a crockpot), I maintain "good buddy" privileges to rag on your food. :D :P

Either case, I was just pulling your leg. I've just never eaten an English muffin as anything but a substitute for toast. Roast beef, I love, but for deli, it spoils too quickly, MUST be frozen if stored (unless someone likes green "mystery meat").

I presume you got yours raw from the supermarket and cooked or baked it yourself.

What kinds of mushrooms? The regular white ones, portabellos, or something else? I would've used my grill pan and done this with a little EVOO (I do the same thing f/yellow squash or eggplant). I've never nuked 'shrooms or onions before, but wot-evah, my dear. :P

Hey, you didn't add gravy, so that's good. Hope that you enjoyed. :D

It was $25 for 4 of us so I didn't think it was that bad. When we go out as a family with the 5 of us, it's usually about $80- and that's at a pretty mediocre place such as Red Robin, etc.
Only $25 for 4? So someone stayed home, I guess. That's pretty good @ Mickey D's prices.

I'd definitely be shopping @ Whole Foods if the price for eating out was $80 + tax & tip for 5. I could make mediocre food for far less money. :D

Now where did you hide yer million$?

I wish we had a Whole Foods nearby; there is a Trader Joe's not too far away but I have never been--are they sort of the same thing?

Tonight we will probably not have a real dinner--we're driving to Philly since our flight to TPA is at the buttcrack of dawn tomorrow morning. We have a park-sleep-fly package at an airport hotel down there. So I can see we'll be stopping at the Molly Pitcher rest stop on the Tpke or something.

We do, however, already have an idea of what we will be eating all weekend. Saturday night my MIL is making dinner so that will probably be chicken paprikash. Sunday morning we are going to the crazy pancake place in Bradenton. Sunday night the bf wants to take everyone to the Waterfront, one of the places in Sarasota we like. It is a sort of locals spot that has steaks/seafood. Monday will probably be an all-liquid day. :gulp:

There aren't any Whole Foods by me. :(

Brad - I knew you were going to have something to say about my dinner. Call this what you want - I toasted an English muffin, put on each side cooked roast beef, some leftover sauteed mushrooms & onions that I heated in the microwave, and Swiss cheese, and nuked the whole thing for 30 seconds to melt the cheese. I then ate each half by hand (no fork/knife required). I don't know what you would want to call it, but it was really good.

How far are you from Manhasset?

Prime rib is a top cut of beef. I you want more, add in some T-bone steak or a porterhouse. However, you'll need to cut it down to size before you could eat that sucka.

Last night I had a bizarro dinner of (4) stuffed grape leaves, the leftover mixture of feta/sliced grape tomatoes/sliced green olives/onion mixture that we had with the falafel earlier in the week and a bag of potato chips.

Tonight I'm going to make meatloaf in the muffin tins and mashed potato so I'll have some leftover potatoes to make boxty for St. Patrick's Day.

I wouldn't mind some frozen pizza right now. I've got a pizza cooker thingy I'd bought on eBay. It's great with reheating a fresh one, or one that was either bought frozen from the supermarket, or one I'd bought fresh from a pizzeria, but froze.

I'll never give up drinking. One MD I know of put me on a no-booze diet, since she didn't like my cholesterol level and gave me some prescription stuff. So here I am at a bar ordering soda, but tipping the bartender extra. All of my dudes and the gals were looking at me like I had two heads on. After 2 weeks, I gave it up and they bought me a few rounds. :gulp::D

I'm glad you'd cooked the stuff the right way earlier. I was about to say, "That doesn't sound like Ally to just toss something into the nuker like that." Wot-evah.

In yer distinguished honor, I bought some roast beef cold cuts, and promptly stuck it into the freezer. If not, it'll be a funny color in no time. Now all I need are some more 'shrooms and onions. :P
