One of my goals in life is to feed beef to Josh.

It's like the episode of Seinfeld where George forces the Jewish woman to eat lobster.

When I worked at McDonald's a Hindu family came in and ordered french fries, saying that it's the only thing they could eat. There's beef extract in the fries, but I didn't have the heart to tell them.

Awww. That's sad. You really should have told them, you know.

I learned something new. I had no idea that McDonald's uses beef extract in the fries. That's odd, but damn those fries are delicious!

Had a horrible horrible weekend food wise. I guess it could be considered great/epic to some, but not for me.

Saturday night after going out - fish taco, carne asada, nachos. Then walked to a hotdog place and got a hotdog w/ the works and tatertots. Then decided to walk to chinatown from union square and get chinese food. Drunk munchies.

Sunday - Watched football w/ my friends.. They ordered 4 pizzas, 2 platters of mac and cheese, cupcakes from magnolias(or equivalent), bottomless bowls of doritos, and ice cream. Washed down with beer. I consumed nonstop for about 9 hours.

Trying to get back on the healthy track tonight though - Grilled some salmon with lemon juice and complimented it w/ a side of sauteed onions, diced carrots, and peppers. mmmm.

I had lunch with my family at Boulder Creek (Hicksville, NY) yesterday and shared a 36 oz. porterhouse with my brother. Both of us agreed that is was one of the best steaks we ever had. Extremely tender and tasted delicious. It earned a spot on my "Top Five Steaks of All-Time" list. I had been to Boulder Creek several times before with mixed results ranging from so-so to decent, but this particular steak was as good as any I've had at higher end steakhouses. The service was exceptional as well.

James

PS - if anyone decides to eat at Boulder Creek I recommend staying away from the one in Franklin Square. I went there with my brother recently and the hostess was flat out rude. The food fell short of expectations there as well. Fortunately the staff at their Hicksville location consistently scores high marks - considerably friendlier and more attentive.

I wouldn't even know what to do with tofu. I've only had it at restaurants.

I fell in LOVE with Tofu sometime last year or so (but only the extra firm kind).

If you just think of it as the protein part of the meal, you can do a lot with it. I like it cubed, dredged in corn starch, salt & pepper, then sauteed in sesame or peanut oil and served in a Thai peanut sauce with some soy sauce on the side.

I just realized that I have no meat in the fridge. Sucks.

I just had some cold cuts, so my usual beef bacon, turkey, pastrami and turkey ham sammich, on a hero. I'm glad I made my own, since the deli near the train station charged me $6.95 for a pastrami on a hero w/let & tomato.

I had a green salad w/romaine, red leaf, eggplant, yellow squash and some cherry tomatoes.

Now I'll need to go out & get some chicken.

I bought the extra firm. One of the recipes calls for grilling it, but I can't imagine it won't fall apart.

Just found out we have to use our quota for the country club tonight so no tofu for me.....tomorrow is a Bat Mitzvah all day and then again at 7pm so it looks like either Sunday night or Monday night now!

When you sautee the tofu, is that how you eat it? Or do you mix it with something else?

You can definitely grill the extra firm tofu. While it might not hold up being crushed by the weight of a George Foreman grill, face up on an open grill will be just fine.

I didn't mean to limit the sauce options, the peanut was just my personal favorite. I also soak the cubes in vinegar and add them to salads, and this is another one of my favs http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Orzo-with-Tomato-and-Fried-Tofu/Detail.aspx

Once it's sauteed, I just set it aside until the peanut sauce is ready (it's a saucepan creation of peanut butter, ketchup, soy sauce, diced scallions, milk and some s&p...sounds weird but it's REALLY good). Once that's done, I just toss the cubes into the sauce and eat it!

I'm a potato eater and grew up on real mashed potatoes. It wasn't until I was married and we were both working full time that I tried the boxed ones. I keep them in the house in a pinch, but I don't really care for them.

I found a new, quick way to make mashed taters. Pierce the skin and nuke them. Then mash them (skin on, but I think it would peel off easily) and mix with s&p, butter and milk. Tastes the same as when I peel, cut and boil, but so much faster. :)

I used a packet of Sazon last night, too! We were out of boullion cubes or chicken base and that was the closest thing I had.

Made a crockpot pork chop recipe that was actually really tasty. For anyone interested:

6 boneless chops dredged in flour, salt, pepper & garlic powder, pan fried in a little oil and placed in a crockpot, then topped with thick slices of 1 large onion, the packet of Sazon and 2 cups of boiling water. Cooked on low for 7 hours, then removed except for the juice to which an 8-oz. container of sour cream and a couple TBSP flour were added to thicken it. That got poured over the chops, which fell apart they were so tender.

Well, I didn't want to use any chicken buillion (spl), since that has a different flavor. However, the Sazon worked out just right. The taters needed something to go along with it.

It started out when I went to some Spanish restaurant near me that served breakfast. Great home fries. I can always make eggs (who can't?), and the kielbasa was good also. But those home fries w/onions rocked.

So I cut up 2 small onions, baked the taters, then put them on a flat pan about 16" or so. When it didn't have flavor, I tried a little Sazon on one, and that did it. I wasn't sure if Sazon was only for meats (like pork seasoning), so when it worked, I threw the whole packet onto there.

I should make much more home fries. Just when the only thing I thought I could make w/taters was mashed or fries. Speaking of which, I haven't made homemade fries in ages. But I can finally make home fries. :P

I don't know what you mean by man made. As I mentioned before, tofu is made from soy beans, which are legumes and grow from the ground.

Tofu may not have a specific taste, but it has a nice texture and can be subsituted for meats or cheeses for those wishing to have an alternative. It's very healthy, as Trish mentioned.

We had pasta Sunday night. :)

What did you decide on for tonight?

Serious advice. Pick one of the big ones to kill and chase it with a rolled up newspaper into the smallest room of your house. Lock yourself in the room with it and close all windows. Then try to kill it with the newspaper. Works every time.

Maybe patty melts. Maybe grinders. Got some old-fashioned dogs too. Waiting for Jenn to get out of the bath and see what she wants. She fell down today and is kinda sore. I can hear the bath jets going in this house we lucked out in getting. When they stop I'll go check to see what I should make.

Oooh, I hope Jenn is ok.

I was going to suggest hot dogs and baked beans. As a matter of fact, that's sounding pretty good for here, too.

Leave a small amount of red wine in a glass on the counter. You'll find "customers" floating the next morning.

We had zucchini and sausage pasta, which is always good. Tomorrow I'm crocking some goulash - we have a "follow-up" feast meeting, so it's going to be a late night.

Red wine? I've never even had fruit flies, but that does sound interesting.

I got tired of seeing roaches, so I simply got some packing tape and put it all over my countertop (my dishwasher on wheels serves as this). Once you get the 25 or so of them buggers stuck on tape, lots of your roach problems are over I've now found. :)

That said, I made a Supa Dupa salad. Well, not totally, but ...

My eggplant went bad, as did my yellow squash, so had to toss 'em out. I bought some green squash (could've been zucchini, since it was sliced, but who cares?), soooooooooooooooooo ... I made some grilled chicken breast, which I'd marinated for a few minutes (just bought from the supermarket), and added some romaine, green leaf, red peppers. The chicken came out very nice once I'd added some black pepper, oregano and Adobo.

I forgot to defrost my cold cuts, but picked up some corned beef from my fave Irish bar-restaurant down the way. I also got some beef patties, then some hot wings from the Italian place my buddies manages, so I'm good for now. :)

I'm just finishing that nice salad I made. I'll have to figure out a way to soften the chicken breasts a bit more. Perhaps some beef bacon or something, but this chicken breast was some good stuff.

Chicken breast has almost zero fat, so that's why it's likely to be dry. I used my largest round grill pan (about 14" or so), and I was able to add oil w/o swimming it in grease.

I used the thicker cut of breast, not the "split" one which is much pricier, since I think it's cut into half of the thickness. I have no idea why someone charges $3.70 for the thinner one that's split when I can just use my 9" chef's knife and do the same thing. I should've bought the pricier one anywayz, since by the time I got home and unpacked the grub, I had to cook everything and prepare some juice.

Next up is some veggies and rice, since I bought some Uncle Ben's and the Goya rice (I love their various types of rice, and I'm a big fan of Uncle Ben's).

Anywayz, an article on Giada (http://www.nypost.com/pagesixmag/issues/20080928/Sizzler+Giada+De+Laurentiis) for her fans.

EDIT: My pan was one of these (http://www.dillards.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=301&storeId=301&langId=-1&productId=501584875).

They seem to like coffee too. Sometimes when I leave a cup of coffee out in the garage and forget it's there for a few days, I go to get it and there are fruit flies all inside the cup. Gross.
