Is the grape leaf a holder for what is inside like with a tamale and a corn husk?
Yep..
Meat and rice rolled up in a grape leaf  Yummmmm
Is that the same as the stuffed grape leaves I've had in my salads?
Wait, there's no meat in those, only rice I think and they are served cold.
Do you eat the dolmas hot?
I think I'm cooking that pork roast in the oven tonight. It's not that big, so it shouldn't take too long.

I eat them either hot or cold. Doesn't matter and with lots of lemon juice. I have them with hamburg meat in them but I've also had them with just rice. Damn, now I want some. I have the grape leaves to make them but it's such a project.

I was going to make the cranberry thingy last night but couldn't fit the right cut of meat for it. I think I'll go to the butcher to get it maybe tomorrow.

What were you looking for? You don't need anything fancy. Rule of thumb for the crock pot...the cheaper the cut, the better.

I hardly ever buy meat so I'm really not comfortable but they had a roast I think it was called and I can't remember the other one but it wasn't what the original recipe called for so I wasn't sure. The hub buys the meat all the time. I rarely do.

I always knew that you twins were typing to each other. Don't twins know what the other thinks w/o the Internet? :D
I decided to bake some chicken that I had marinating in the fridge. About 5 pieces, but I'm considering whether ot remake the rice I had. The Spanish rice & beans from yesterday may work. It'll do for now.
I just added some spieces that I had in the cupboard and it'll do.
Breakfast was just some herbal tea, corned beef hash, taters, a few over easy eggs, some of the Italian hero bread and a large bowl of cereal (some natural cereal).
Mmmmmm. I think I'm gonna stop and get a whole chicken and make a batch of soup too.
I think I posted my recipe wrong. I put the chicken in a pot, cover up to the top of the breast with cold water, and add a couple of stalks of celery, a couple of carrots, and a whole onion with about 2 teaspoons of coarse salt. I let that come to a boil, skim of the gunk, and cover and simmer for about an hour.
Then I take out the chicken, strain the stock to get rid of the veggies and any extra gunk, and then I boil cut up carrots, celery and potatoes in the stock until they're cooked.
While that's cooking I take the meat of the bones and then throw that back in right before it's ready to serve.
About 10 minutes before it's done, I put in orzo or pearl pasta and cook it right in the stock. I also add a little more salt at this time, and some parsley.

Can you buy it by the slice or do you have to buy the whole thing? Because one slice isn't going to undo any of your hard work.

I had some when Shannen and I ate there. It's tasty, but overrated and way expensive at $7.50 a slice.
I hope it comes out good. Let me know how it compares to the way you usually make it with the stock.
Surprisingly, it tasted exactly the same as the way I always make it. I thought the stock would be more flavorful because the whole chicken had to cook in water with the onion, carrots, seasonings, etc.
The only thing that was a little different was the meat being softer from being boiled rather than roasted. Plus, there was a lot more chicken meat, because when I roast it and we have it for dinner, there isn't a lot left to put in the soup.

Niiiice.
I'm having my annual mini Oscar party tonight. The ritual is to buy new (swanky!) pajamas, make some apps, open some champagne and watch the red carpet show and Oscars.
The menu consist of toasted Italian bread with sun-dried tomato bruschetta spread, red grapes, Carr's Cheese Melts crackers, a Tastefully Simple dip with blue corn sesame chips, a Thai peanut sauce/cheese/scallion/chopped peanut/chicken pizza, and of course, chocolate covered strawberries.
That sounds like so much fun. Even though I don't see many movies, I still like to see all the celebs dressed up! :)

I know, me too - even though Atonement was the only movie I saw that was nominated for Best Picture this year.
Usually it's just me, but this year, my MIL and daughter are joining me (which means the swanky Oscar de la Renta's are going to have to make an appearance on another night ;) ).

I guess it's just a matter of layering the stuff. I browned some meat earlier, and I just mix ricotta, eggs and cheese, layer it up with sauce and voila:D
Edit: I forgot, I also only use the no-boil noodles. They're so easy and so good, I'll never boil lasagna noodles ever again.

I used the no boil noodles the last few times too. But it's still a chore. Unless I have sauce made already, I have to make it (I use sausage in the sauce when I make lasagna) which is time consuming.

That's right...I remember now that you said you cooked it in an oven bag. I've never used those before I don't think.
For pot roast, usually the cheaper cuts are better. I either make pot rpast in the pot on the stove, or the crock. I think for the oven, maybe a better cut?
I just get chuck or bottom round roasts when I make pot roast. If it's a roast beef, you have to get a better kind, but I don't remember the type.

i just got done making my Famous Baked Macaroni and Cheese. and thats with 1 lbs. of New York sharp with seasoned bread crumbs on top. its out of the oven right now to cool some and then im taking a whole bunch of it to work for tonite. i can still cook. I CAN STILL COOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
That sounds really good.
I'm trying to be good so tonight is just a Blackbean Chipotle veggie burger (no bun) with a couple tablespoons of salsa and guac on the side.
Got the kids Subway. I don't know what hubby and I are eating.
I've been having sandwiches & salads for most of my lunches. I may need to try something different, since after the lettuce (usually red or green leaf), I'll add cherry tomatoes, broccoli, chicken breast, cauliflower, red or orange peppers, then some mushroom (shiitakes are my fave).
For the sandwich, mostly cold cuts like pepper turkey, corned beef, salami, pastrami.
