I am kind of surprised, no Stevie Ray Vaughan or Hendrix... Thoughts??

I love my boy Jimmy Paige, but Eruption has one sick ass guitar solo in it. I've seen a live video of Eddie playing it, and its crazy

I'm not the least bit surprised by #1. I've heard many live performances of that song and the solo each time is different and just as awesome as the album version. He is truly the greatest guitarist ever.
I would have liked to see more Hendrix in the top 10; he had some pretty classic solos (Foxey Lady, Purple Haze).

I gotta agree with Rhodey. Eruption beats Stairway to heaven.

and for Hendrix, I think his greatest guitar solo is his version of the National Anthem. Its mindblowingly good

Have you ever listened to Hendrix's solo on the Warner live album version of "Hear My Train a Comin'"..wow

I gotta agree with Rhodey. Eruption beats Stairway to heaven.
Go buy How The West Was Won and listen to Page play it. It's f*cking AMAZING.

Stairway is my favorite rock song, and a main reason is the guitar solo. But Eruption may be my favorite solo.
And you've got to check this out: a video of a guy playing "Eruption" on the violin!

To add to what I said, as much as I like both guitar solos from "Comfortably Numb", neither is my favorite David Gilmour solo-- that honor goes to either "Time" or "Echoes".

Ugh I hate Stairway to Heaven... and Led Zeppelin. So overrated. It's a great solo, but I just hate Zeppelin with such a passion that I can't appreciate Page's playing.
It's really pathetic that there is no Jeff Beck up there. Page stole a lot of his style from Beck, and once you hear Beck, you won't appreciate Page quite as much, though Page is still great.
I would have liked to see Cream's live version of Steppin' Out on there; that's the best Clapton playing that I have ever heard.
Ha I don't like Van Halen either... or GnR... or Metallica... I'm not a huge fan of this list.
I dunno, for me, emotion is very important to a solo, so I'd rather listen to slow emotional solos like Gilmour's than fast technical tapping and shredding like Van Halen or Metallica.

I don't think the solo in Stairway is long enough to warrant it being the best ever. It's good, don't get me wrong, but not the best ever. I would have put One above it, and even November Rain. I think the best Hendrix solo can be found on his Live at Berkely cd. His 10 minute version of Machine Gun is out of this world.

Me neither, they just went with a list of hits that I'm sick of hearing by now.
I disagree with you on Zeppelin, I'm not a HUUUUGE fan but I do love their music.
Van Halen's OK, I grew up with GNR, and loved Metallica... I can't stand them now.

I haven't seen Live At Berkely :(
I should pick that up. I think Machine Gun off Band of Gypsies might be my favorite solo if it isn't All Along the Watchtower. Machine Gun owns.
I don't deny Page's talent (or JPJ or Bonham's), but I just can't stand Robert Plant's singing. He sounds like a more feminine Janis Joplin. I also dislike Page because he stole many, many of his famous riffs (including the Stairway riff).
I would have liked to see Maggot Brain by Funkadelic make that list. That's one hell of a solo.
