Unfortunately the only link i've been able to find is another messageboard, however it wouldnt make sense for someone to make this up

If true, I have to wonder if Fox will be able to come back from another elbow surgery. When healthy he is one of the better setup men in the game, but his injury last year on live TV was gruesome

The Yankees do like signings like this. A guy who is coming off an injury (in Fox's case, he's blown his elbow out a couple of times) and is a low risk, decent reward investment, they usually give it a crack. It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility to sign Fox, stash him down in Tampa to rehab and see if he can be ready in August to pitch down the stretch. Dotel will need someone to talk to at least in April and May when he's still rehabbing.

he hasn't had a healthy season since 2001, but he's worth a minor league deal

He's gotta keep that sinker down!

Didn't he win a ring with the '03 Marlins?

I remember hearing that he probably wasn't going to have the surgery and that he was more than likely going to retire. If he had the surgery, they said he would likely miss the 06 season.

Anyone know for sure? In any event, he sure doesn't seem like any kind of an option any time soon.

Not a bad signing, as long as he is able to pitch and not going to miss the entire season. Like Ghost of Dan Pasqua said, leave him in Tampa, and if hes ready to go, bring him up in August or more likely when the rosters expand in September.

A minor league signing wouldnt hurt the team at all, but seriously this guy isnt the right to count on when needed b/c he had 3 surgeries on one freakin elbow.

I also agree with the others signing Chad Fox, rehab in Tampa, and call him up if he's ready to go.

I perfer the NY personnel doin' the baseball decisions with the acquisitions and let Tampa do the rehab assignments.

That was the guys 1st post on that board and although I agree I don't see why someone would make this up, the fact that there is not one other source is a bit skeptical.

Sounds like it would be a good signing. An abundance of pitchers can't hurt.

I would love this idea. Low risk / high reward

That was the guys 1st post on that board and although I agree I don't see why someone would make this up, the fact that there is not one other source is a bit skeptical. Some people make things up just to get attention. The fact that the guy hasn't made any subsequent posts since that first one doesn't exactly add to his credibility, nor does the fact that there has been no mention of this rumor from any other source.

Whether the rumor is or isn't true, it would be a good signing. If it is only a minor league deal, it certainly can't hurt. Maybe he could rehab and the pen could catch 'lightning in a bottle,' as Torre likes to say.

I have no idea. Hope that helps.

Put it this way, remember the show "Cheers", when Norm would go into the bar the entire bar would yell "Norm!" because he was such a regular. In Dr. Jobe's office, when they Fox walks in for another surgery, the medical staff yells "Chad!"

ok... let's try a different tact.

I think this signing is great. Fox will fortify the bullpen to the extent that I now believe the Yankees have the best bullpen in the past 20 years. I don't see any reason why Fox couldn't step in and be the set up man we need come April 1st. Fox is a natural set up man. Something the Yankees haven't had since Sparky Lyle.

I'm glad to see his health will not be an issue going forward.

Edit
(Oh yeah, I forgot... the Yankees need a guy named Chad on the team to win it all, so there's that to consider as well)
