I have spent a lot of time over the past day trying to figure out how to do this. I have my desktop picture on the TV screen with perfect color and size, but nothing else. Does anyone know how to help me, or where I can get help? I've asked at some computer forums, but they want me to keep downloading stuff and deleting others. Too risky for me.

There is no icons or start menu? What operating system are you using?

Is the desktop "extended" on to the TV screen?
If it is then that's the reason. If you want to see the exact same picture on your Primary monitor and the TV screen, you should "un-extend" it and set them as the same picture.

Not gonna lie, I have no idea what you said there. How do I go about doing any of that?

Alright, what kind of Video Card do you have?
I have an ATI so if you have NVidia I can't give you specific directions.

RAEDON 9000, I'm pretty sure that involves ATI because I was directed to download something by them, but it did not install properly

Okay, so if you want the same picture on both screens, follow these instructions:
Right mouse click on the desktop and hit "Properties" and go to the "Settings" tab.
You should see this:

Now, click on the second monitor. I think you have the "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" selected right now, so what you want to do is un click that.
Hit apply. You'll lose picture in the TV.
Go back to that screen again.
Then hit the "advanced" button.

You'll get this screen.
Now I have two monitors plugged in so this is where we differ. What you want to do is follow these instructions for the TV side. Click on the power button which is that red button. Then click on the blue buttons circled in purple with the arrow too it. It's the one with two squares in it. Then hit okay and apply and it should technically work.
If that wasn't the problem, it could be that the resolution was set too high on the second monitor. Simply click on the second screen picture and change its resolution.

I did the extended thing checked, I unchecked it. However, my second screen does not match yours. The one I have has the following tabs. General, Adapter, Monitor, Troubleshoot and Color management.
By the way, thanks for all the help.

Okay, what it's really doing is making a huge desktop for you so it's like the two screens are one big desktop. Therefore you won't have the icons and start menu on the TV.

When I did have it connected (I am unable to connect it now), I had websites up that weren't showing up. Just Shawn Chacon saluting the crowd.

That really shouldn't have anything to do with your video settings...:dunno:
Try clicking on that second screen window and Extend your desktop back on there.
If you're still having trouble reconnecting it, turn off your comp then reconnect the S-Video cable (or whichever other wire you're using to connect the TV and computer) and turn it back on. Then go back to the properties and try and rextend it yet again. That should do the trick.

Ok, I can't try it now, but I will later on.
I put a check mark in the "extend" box after click on screen two. If that doesn't work I turn of the computer, but the S-Video cable in, turn it on, and then check the box on which screen?
Thanks for all your help. I always knew I would like the show lost, so I rented the first season, loved it. I downloaded this season via bit torrent, and my family wants to see it on the TV, so I've been trying to figure it out all day.

I don't have a DVD burner, so I tried to burn them as data and see if it would work. It did not.

No burn them as a video CD. Do you have Nero?

Yeah I have nero. What I usually do to burn videos on CDRs is just burn them as data.

Well, I figured I'd try to see what you were talking about. I opened up Nero and started to burn it as a VCD. It's taking forever, but I'll let you know if it works.

Yeah, it has to encode them as an MPEG file. Then it should work in your Average DVD player.

Could I then use this to take a MOV file and convert it to an MPEG? I have that Nike commercial with all the masks from last year as a MOV file. I want to make it an MPEG so I can strip the audio (I used to have a program that I shoudl eb able to find again.)

There are conversion programs but if you can't find it, the sure, you can.

Here's a free ten day trial program that should do the job.
