Netflix Recommendation [Archive]

I'm thinking about signing up for Netflix. I have a two-week free trial so I thought I would give it a try. Does anyone recommend this or have any reason to avoid using Netflix, such as bad experiences with them?

I have heard nothing bad, but also have a good friend who used Blockbuster and said it was great. Any problems she ever had were fixed immediately.

Thanks. It just seems to be cheaper than my local Blockbuster, assuming I actually watch more than three movies a month.

I have been a Netflix member for about 5 months now, and I love it. The shipping process is very efficient. They even send you emails letting you know that they've received the latest DVD you returned, and that they've shipped the next one in your queue. I'm very happy with them.

Netflix is amazing. I have a local distribution facility, so anything I send back is only a 2-day turnaround. Searching is easy, they have a bunch of great features on the site, a manageable queue and easy mailing. This time of year, we're watching about 10 movies a month at a total cost of $19.25 including tax.

I've had Netflix for over a year and I love it. The key is turnover though. Sometimes (especially when I rent TV shows) I end up having them for weeks which isn't efficient, but usually I can get, watch and return a movie in a day or two. It's definately cheaper then going to Blockbuster once a week. It's great if you have a DVD burner too. ;)

Netflix is awesome. I received an e-mail from them yesterday saying that they are lower the price I pay by a $1.00 a month.....not sure why but hey I'll take it. Their service is great.

Hmmm...that's what I have. Hopefully I'll have an email waiting for me at home. I remember getting something about a class-action lawsuit a few months ago that was supposed to adjust our rate.

I've used Netflix and I'm currently using a free month of Blockbuster. Shipping-wise they are both equally as efficient. I usually have a 2-day turn around because I'm about 40 miles from where both companies have distribution centers.

Netflix usually has more availability but the 2 free rentals per month from a blockbuster store offset that for me.

I have Netflix... sometimes I get DVDs very quickly, other times slower. Don't know why. There is a facility about 25 minutes from me. Hmmm...

One time, a CD came cracked in half... Was kind of pissed about that. I sent it back and they sent me another one. No biggie.

Sometimes the Netflix facility closest to you wont have the DVD, so they have to send a request to another facility. It happens with harder to find DVD's or extremely popular ones

I have nothinng bad to say about Netflix at all. They have DVD's that my local blockbuster doesn't, and its cheaper

A great Netflix ability is to put new movies not yet out on DVD in your queue, even if they're just hitting the theaters. They then keep track of them for you and enter them in the queue when the DVDs are released. The new King Kong is in my queue.

The only complaint I can think of is now they are getting so popular that most new releases are on long wait when they come out. When I first got it, you could get anything, any time. Now I'm on a "very long wait" for the 40 Year Old Virgin" even though it was #1 in my queue when it came out.

has anyone tried to burn a DVD from Netflix...I tried last night but said it was copywrite and couldn't burn. I'm able to burn studio CD's though without a problem. Anyone have any ideas??

DVD's have a code built in, most studi CD's don't

I love Netflix. It's awesome, easy to use, and reasonably priced. If I mail back movies on a Monday or Tues, I have more back by Friday. It's that fast.

Now they go to Albany, a 2-day turnaround. Sometimes what you want has to come from another distribution facility...I had one from the deep south not too long ago.

I had one DVD take 4 days once, and that was it. Its incredible

My brother-in-law keeps telling me to join netflix but my local Hollywood Video has this monthly value pass option that seems to be more or less the same thing. I hate waiting so I will stick to the video store... and I haven't quite reached the point yet of never wanting to leave my house.

I had Netflix for a while. It was great, but I have cancelled it and have been using Blockbuster online for a few months now. I also like that you can get 2 in-store rentals free a month. That way if I don't feel like waiting for something, or we see something I didn't add to the queue, I can get it. Only thing is it has to be back in the normal time, like 5-7 days or you'll pay the late fees unlike the online thing.

I wish you could also rent video games online with them. Between the Game Boys, the PSP and the PS2, it would be nice to have that option without joining a game only site like Gamefly. (I did find a movie/video game rental site but they didn't have PSP games and their movie library wasn't impressive.)

I think it's 3-4 day turnaround, on average. I still think that's pretty good. I normally don't watch movies on weekdays anyway, so as long as I remember to pop them in the mail by Mon or Tues, I'm sure to have new movies for the following weekend. I guess it depends on how far a person is from the warehouse that ships them out. Also, often I just put them in my mail box at my house rather than the post office, so that probably adds a day.

I used Blockbuster.com first, but I got so disgusted by the store nearby over their refusal to refund a controller purchase, that I won't use the store or the online site anymore. That's why I switched to Netflix. Gamefly seems pretty good to me. That's what I use for my son.

You get 3 at a time, you can request a bunch but they're held in queue and you receive the next batch when you return the others.

While I didn't rent that many movies a month, I found myself seeing "long wait" or "very long wait" on just about every new release that came out about 6-8 weeks ago. For months before as a member of Netflix, if I left an open spot on my list, I would usually get the new release in my mail the Tuesday it came out, but suddenly, I couldn't get near any new release and finally gave up and switched to Blockbuster. It will be a matter of time until they "throttle" me there too. I'll just keep switching back and forth or have my gf sign up under her name.

I've probably had months where I've watched over a dozen movies and they all come within 2 days. Some have a longer waiting time, but there's 100 movies in the queue so we just get what's next. So far, we've had 3 that were unplayable out of about 75 delivered.

We were just about to join that service, and then I heard about the "throttling" thing on the news...now I'm not so sure....

There is usually some sort of special for the 1st month, so you can see how good or bad they do. Despite the throttling, if you rent 4 or more in a month (based on a $17.99 plan), it's cheaper than going to Hollywood or Blockbuster for the same 4 movies.

I read about the throttling too... i could really care less. I don't sit around waiting for DVDs to come b/c I don't really have time to watch them, (2 at a time plan) and if I were to get a new release, it'd go to the bottom of my queue. Tons of other movies I need to see.

Couldn't be happier w/ Netflix.

Netflix = great. I've never had a problem with them. And for the most part, my movies arrive next day.

Though I rent closer to 6-7 per month than 18.

but beware of throttling, netflix and all these companies do it.

It is for heavy users who go through 15+ movies a month. They move you to the back of the line for new movies and delay your shipments. Google it for more info.
