Today is the deadline. Are there any news?

they'll probably be tendered contracts before midnight tonight

I'm a little worried about this. I hope this doesn't turn into another case where we are 'gaurenteed to offer arbitration' to a player, but we don't.

they'll be traded before they're not tendered contracts

but...
If they aren't tendered, they'll be free agent...

it wouldn't make sense for the yankees to set them loose, which is why it won't happen

There's really no room for Small, and I doubt he'd be attractive in a trade.
Chacon, on the other hand, is an obvious no-brainer.

they might sign him just for insurance, because we all know someone from the rotation is going to be on the DL at some point
Small wouldn't be attractive in a trade after the year he just had? Baseball execs are not that smart.

My friend heard on the radio that they were both offered arbitration.

I think Small may be re-signed and then sent back to AAA until we need him. Our bullpen is pretty solid now with Rivera, Farnsworth, Villone, Dotel, Myers, Sturtze, and Wright.

34 year olds who have been awful their entire careers aren't very attractive for trades. Even when they have one good year, which is likely due more to luck than skill.

They better be offered arbitration. Not only did they come up huge for us down the stretch, they'll be major insurance in case someone gets injured. And if you don't have that insurance, that's why you need it.

You are overestimating the intelligence of MLB execs... There are morons all over baseball who would trade for a 34 year old who had a breakout season.

We'd be better off trading Wright or Pavano for a CF and using Small in long relief I think.

The worries in this thread are silly - the yanks are undoubtedly offering arbitration to both.

i know, but i just want something to read before i hit the hay
The date for offering arbitration has passed. If I recall correctly, the Yankees don't have to do anything to Chacon besides sign him to a contract. He doesn't have 5 years MLB service.

Good news. I think Small can be a very nice member of the pen, and I would like to see Chacon back as the 4 starter....

No way that would happen.
Small and Chacon yes, but the bigger news is that Franklin was not offered. That means he is a Free Agent, and off the 40 man roster.
YES!! :P

Yeah véry good. I don't quite get why people are dissing Small that much but hey, that's just me. Chacon has got thé stuff imho. He'll be a good (like someone else said) #4 starter for us in 2006.

I wish it was only Chacon, Im afraid the Yankees actually think small is a MLB quality starter.

The yanks have enough money tied up in other starters that Small isn't starting over anyone else unless someone gets hurt or pitches so poorly that they lose the job. There's no risk the yanks will pitch Small ahead of someone else unless he's truly the better option.

true but if somebody gets injured id rather have somebody young with the potetional of being good one day start. Juse my opinion and I can see the other side though

Finnaly. Now I believe the Yankees will take care our prospects and surprises a little better. Offerred arbitration to Small and Chacon, Cano is in the starter line-up and Wang in the rotation. I want to believe it's a new era of the Yankees administration.
