There is apparently a Sturtze/Henn(or something similar) for Michaels deal on the table, and if Cashman is as into Michaels as he has showed in the past, I have to assume he'll take that.

Hopefully they're referring to the same supposed deal that Cashman shot down as being a false rumor.

Anyway, I'll say Michaels.

i heard that as well.. i'm torn on this issue.. 5 years for damon is 2 years too long.. on the other hand, it's not my money and the yankees are kind of in a fix seeing how you need to field 9 guys and i don't think sheffield and matsui will be able to cover the entire field..

I put down Reed because I want Reed and I think Cashman is waiting to see what Clemens does in order to make a decision on whether or not to send Pavano somewhere else. I'm hopeful Reed will be our starting CF on opening day.

That is pretty much my feeling. Reed would be my number 1 choice, but not Cashmans. Michaels has a great OBP though, which would fit in nicely as our 2 hitter.

I agree, but Torre would never make Michaels the #2 hitter. Unless Cashman gets in his ear about it.

Hmm... Could Cashman pull off Michaels AND Damon?

Trade for Michaels, sign Damon. Michaels gets CF, Damon gets RF. Sheffield gets DH. Damon bats lead off or 2nd.

Sturtze, Henn for Michaels? Throw in Proctor for good measure as well.

It reads: Jeter + A-Rod + Nomar = WTF, in big, bold type.

In regards to the thread topic, I would prefer Bubba, or anyone else but Damon. Offering Damon anything longer than 2-3 years, is insane! Have'nt the Yankees learned already, by giving out long-term contracts?

Damon in RF!? Are you nuts!?

I believe that you would want your best outfield arm in RF. Damon's arms does not cut it. Teams would run on him with impunity.

I just read that the Mariners are offering Reed (indirectly) to the team that doesn't sign Damon. They either want Clement/Arroyo from Boston, or Wang/Pavano from us. I know Cashman says he doesn't want to trade Pavano, but who knows what he will do.

I know this has been beaten to death, but I'd figure I'd post it again because the article was dated today.

I'd really hate to see Damon in a Yankee uniform, but if he's going to have a significant impact in the quest for # 27, then let's get him.

Bubba.

He has earned the right to start. He has NEVER been given a chance. Hey 4 AB's a day he may bat really really good, because Donnie can tweak his swing, and he can find his groove. I can't wait. ;)

I voted Reed, because that is what I wish. I think Michaels, and I am okay with that. I can't believe that the Yanks offered 5 years for Damon.

I'm hoping Cashman declined Pavano for Reed in the past because he wanted something else from Seattle in addition to Reed, or he wants them to take on more salary than they offered. I think Pavano would be a solid back of the rotation starter for us, but to get a lot of that salary off the team, and also get a young CFer with plus defense in return? I think you have to do it. Reed's offense will come around, it is evident by his 33 doubles last year in less than 500 ABs. I expect him to be around .280 / .360 / .450 with plus defense for many years to come. As a matter of fact, I could see the BA and OBP being a little higher.

Of course, he could be holding out for Michaels. While Michaels is older than Reed, either would be fine by me. Michaels is more attractive considering all of the OF prospects we have, and Michaels would not be someone that would block them from getting to the majors. Reed would, but I suspect at this point he would be a very good CF for us, who we could trade for good value, or keep and trade one of our young guys who is ready.

NewEraYanks2527
12-20-05, 08:17 PM
I want Michaels and Reed with Sheff DHing alot of the time. That is a good offensive and defensive lineup and with more depth in a bullpen it could qualify as a championship team. I would love to see Cash pull off landing both of them but hey it's my dream and probably not going to be a reality.
