I've read that Tony Larussa is very fond of Womack & St.Louis needs a 2B;May be far fetched, but Ray King demanded a trade after the season & he's scheduled to make close to $3M;King will be a nice lefty addition to the bullpen.I've also read that Kansas City would like a veteran 2B.

Womack word association? Woebegone.
From 'dictionary.com':
Word of the Day for Tuesday June 28, 2005
woebegone \WOE-bee-gon\, adjective:
1. Beset or overwhelmed with woe; immersed in grief or sorrow; woeful.
2. Being in a sorry condition; dismal-looking; dilapidated; run-down.
Prediction? Wo is going, going...

Second base situation: Baird has been looking for a second baseman and said, "I may have one Thursday. I may. I didn't say I have one."
That could be Aaron Miles, who reportedly has been the subject of trade talks with the Rockies. A hustling switch-hitter, Miles batted .281 last season in 99 games.
Miles, 29, drew just eight walks to go with 91 hits and his on-base percentage was just .306. He had two home runs and 28 RBIs.
The acquisition of Miles would allow the Royals to play Andres Blanco, the second baseman at the end of last season, at Triple-A Omaha to work on his batting skills.
A rumor had the Royals interested in the Yankees' Tony Womack, but manager Buddy Bell said he hadn't heard that one.

Tony on the block? Several teams have called the Yankees about Tony Womack, who doesn't appear to have a true role with New York in 2006.
Womack, who signed a two-year, $4 million deal last winter to be the Yankees' second baseman, was replaced by Robinson Cano in early May and limited to a backup outfielder's role for most of the season.
"I've had some teams express an interest in Tony," Cashman said. "We're in a situation where we'll listen to any concept that might make sense for us with any of our players who don't have full no-trades."
Several teams are looking for a second baseman, including the Royals and Cardinals. The Yankees don't have to move Womack before the season, though they certainly wouldn't be opposed to doing so.
"There's a role that Tony can fill here, without a doubt -- if he's here," Cashman said. "If he's not, maybe we can put him in a different situation which is closer to what he signed here for. Time will tell."

Useful, but not worth anywhere near $2 million.
I do wonder what we could get back for him. Maybe teams think that he can be the player he was in 2004 (Which still isn't good)? :dunno:

Maybe the Cards are willing to do Womack and Small for Ray King.
Considering how ex-Yankee reclamation projects like Seabol and J-Rod have helped them out so much, maybe they would like some Small ball.
there's no reason to think a team that needs a starting 2b wouldn't be willing to part with a decent middle reliever for womack.
i can't even type that with a straight face.

This article, that looks like it is from yesterday, about the post-Casey Reds in the Cincy Post may have some clues:
Likewise, if the season started today, Adam Dunn likely would be playing first base in the Reds' new alignment (though O'Brien wouldn't comment on that even as a hypothetical), with Wily Mo Pena and Austin Kearns serving as bookends to Ken Griffey Jr. in the outfield. But that is all subject to change, too. Kearns' name has been mentioned in numerous rumors this week and he or Pena could still be dealt.
The Reds have some flexibility there, as they may get a position player back in an additional trade, or they could give Ryan Freel a starting job in the outfield and sign a reasonably priced veteran to play second base.

Nevermind just did some research on him, looks like he had a breakout year with the bat in AAA this year, looks like he has some pop. Don't know what his defense is like, but he could probably hit enough to play everyday if his defense is alright. The question does he fit into the Reds' plans, they have a glut of outfielders, but I'm not so sure they let this guy get away for just Womack.

I don't think we are going to "give away" Womack either. Womack can be a useful player under the right circumstances (i.e. NL team looking for a solid glove/speed middle infielder). However, I don't think a team is going to give us much quality in return for Womack.

Now this is interesting, and not unrealistic. Freel and Kearns are 2 very different players, but both seem capable of playing CF. Freel provides more SBs and OBP. Kearns has good OF speed and arm with much better pop in his bat, but at the sacrifice of OBP. Health is obviously an issue, but he is someone who could eventually slide over to RF. I'm curious to see how this plays out assuming Cincy doesn't demand a top prospect with Womack. Although why do I fear Cincy will say no deal unless they can somehow pawn off Eric Milton to the Yanks?

we should deal Womack to the White Sox for Jack Parkman

Wouldn't it be too damn funny if Womack was traded to Cincy and Cincy unloaded Griffey and his contract on the Yanks.
Womack for Griffey. You heard it here first. lol

If we can get a fairly decent arm for the bullpen for Womack, I'll be happy with that.
Several teams need 2B, and there is an available trade pool of Womack and Junior Spivey from the Nationals.
The Cardinals, for example, ahve a weakness at 2B, where their options include Hector Luna, Aaron Miles (acquired last night from Colorado), and Bo Hart. If we could deal them Womack for someone like Mike Lincoln we'd have a deal I'd take.
They have an OF hole, too, so if one of the 2B trhey have storms spring training, they could put Tony in LF.
I believe La Russa is a Womack fan.

Any team that has Tony Womack as their Second Baseman still has a weakness at Second Base.

WFAN reporting the Womack deal was for 2 minor leaguers, but I haven't heard any names.....Don't think we'll be getting Freel or Kearns.

According to CBS sportsline the player is class A second baseman Kevin Howard. He sounds like a quality ball player based on what I was able to find on him:
Kevin Howard is 24 years old, bats left throws right and was taken in the 5th rounds by the Reds in 2002. He hit .296 for Chattanoga last year with a .346 OBP and .428 slugging percentage. He hit 12 homeruns, had 70 RBIs and struck out 64 times in 479 at bats.
According to Rotoworld:
This year Kevin Howard finish with an AFL-leading .409 average.
Howard had three homers, four doubles and 10 walks in 88 at-bats. His performance has to make the Reds feel a little more confident going into next season with the injury-prone Ryan Freel at second base. Howard will likely open the year in Triple-A, but he'd be a top candidate to step in if Freel lands on the DL.

At 24, he's a little old for AA (Chattanooga is the Reds' AA club), but otherwise he sounds pretty good.
Does he have a chance to make the Yankees? Our bench is critically weak right now.

The greatest contibution Tony Womack made to this team was the word we can forever use to describe a bad ball player. That word is 'Womackian".

They just traded Womack to the Reds for two prospects. One of them, Kevin Howard, 3B, led the Arizona Fall League with a .409 average. The other prospect was Ben Rimes a 24 year old outfeilder.

What might be the most interesting about this trade is what happens next.
According to Rotoworld concerning Howard’s performance in the AFL:
Howard had three homers, four doubles and 10 walks in 88 at-bats. His performance has to make the Reds feel a little more confident going into next season with the injury-prone Ryan Freel at second base. Howard will likely open the year in Triple-A, but he'd be a top candidate to step in if Freel lands on the DL.
This makes you wonder why the Yankees would have gone for a prospect that might be a year away from playing second base in the bigs when they have Cano at second and a more immediate need in CF.
I seriously doubt they plan to trade Cano and leave the job to an unproved kid just up from AA ball but they might be interested in packaging this kid to someone who has made it known they are looking for major league ready cheap help at second base.
I think there is a decent chance that Howard could be on his way somewhere sometime soon.
