What a first half!!!
This show is back to being the 24 we all know and love.
No one's been killed by Jack yet, though, so he's going to have to work hard to get to 4.

I know. I did that on purpose. I was watching some program and this comedian was talking about Michael Jackson and said "Michael Jackson was the man, is the man, was the man."
I just thought it sounded cool.

OK, an update after checking the DVR:
As Jack is running through the food court and all hell is breaking loose, a blonde girl in a blue hat falls over. Jack runs by and we see an agent help her to her feet and run out. It seems as though her face was intentionally obscured by the hat. She appears in three seperate shots, and we never see her face.
After that, Jack rescues the little girl and runs off. Then, we see a very quick shot of a blond girl in a green apron passed out on the floor, with a scar on her lip from the nerve gas. The scene is very quick and the camera is moving the whole time, but I paused my DVR and from what I can tell the girl looks a lot like Elisha Cuthbert. Why go to all the trouble to show this particular person, particularly after Jack (who was unrecognizable behind the gas mask) ran right past her?
Anyway, as you can tell I'm very bored. :) If anyone else has Tivo/DVR, take a look and let me know.

They said in an earlier episode that the gas takes a few hours to kill a victim. Would they possibly have Kim dying a painful death at CTU while Jack is out saving the world? I hope not...

I actually don't think it is her, because I thought maybe she would play a bigger role then just dying in a nerve gas attack. But it really does look like her.

Funny you say that. Apparently before being optioned as a movie, "The Da Vinci Code" was considered as a possible plot for season 3 of 24. Can't quite imagine Jack running through the Louvre chasing Templar Knights, but interesting nonetheless.

Wow that would have sucked actually. DaVinci Code doesn't really take place over 24 hours either.
A better choice would have been Angels and Demons since that actually has to do with a terrorist attack.
Either would have been stupid idea though.

Actually, I could def see Angels and Demons being made into a '24' movie... They could have a brief scene from the beginning, when the anti-matter is stolen... then go right into the "this scene takes place between 8am and 9am."... it'd work very well, I think.

The only thing I didn't understand from last night's episode is this:
If Bauer had decided not to give the terrorists the correct code to release the gas, why didn't he just take them out at that point and start one of his theraputic Jack massages to get info? Why risk having them kill him?
Very unJack-like.

He was wearing the gas mask, kneeling with his hands behind him. Just read this bit about upcoming casting for the show.
Here's the good...
WISE MOVE ON '24'
Yesterday I wondered when, if ever, we'll see Presi dent Logan's (Gregory Itzin) Vice President on "24." Well, here's the answer: Vet eran actor Ray Wise will ap pear in an upcoming episode as Vice President Hal Gard ner,
Here's the "what the f*ck?"
and he'll be joined by C. Thomas Howell as a therapist who helps Jack (Kiefer Suther land) re pair his re lationship with daughter Kim (Elisha Cut hbert).
Huh? Ummm. How the f*ck does that work, exactly? Are they going to "patch" Jack in for conference call therapy sessions while he's having a running gun battle with someone? Why do the writers do this? Why must they insist on surrounding someone as hot as Cuthbert with seriously dumb storylines and thus making fans of the show hate her? Why can't she just come back as lesbian assassin Mandy's new lover? THAT would be cool.

They tied him up after they knocked him out. The lead baddie screamed at him to make the thingy work, and Jack said "I CAN'T! YOU F*CKER!" and then the guy smacked him with the gun and knocked him out.

Which is what I'd do if I was facing Jack. Knock him out before he kills me.
Then go to an abandoned warehouse and kill myself, because I know that if I don't do it, Jack will.

Oh man...this has the possibility to derail the season. Kim may be the most annoying character on network TV. Damn her for being so hot.

I think as fans of the show we're just going to have to accept that there is a formula in place for each season and certain notes will always be played. As Roger Ebert has said about movies - it's not so much what they're about as how they're about it.

I thought the episode was very good however I had one problem.
I hate the fact that Jack got in the car after receiving the info from the american guy (cant remember his name), and not only was jack not jetting away from the scene, but he just relaxed and took his time to send chloe the info. Are you telling me that the bad guys were not able to give him any trouble at this point? and Jack wasn't afraid of them??

This loose end needs to be tied up or at least addressed soon. There is no way that the Chinese don't know Jack is alive at this point considering that several APB's were issued for him 7 - 8 hours ago.

He coudln't read the info on the PDA and didn't know what was on it - the guy died before he coudl tell him anything else. I woudln't really say he relaxed and took his time, but he definely wasn't slow about it. Also, he pretty much shot down the helicopter and it flew away... I wouldn't have been worried about it either.

but i was under the impression that when jack blew up the one guy with the bomb he actually got two of them. so my total is 14 as well.

Very entertaining episode tonight, but I had to really suspend disbelief. Why nobody thought to send a dummy car and then tell the press that Subaraov's status is unknown after the attack is beyond me. However Curtis has now leapfrogged over Tony to take the spot as #2 badass in CTU.
I knew Robocop was bad. He just looked evil and when they went in a room w/only one entrance and no windows I knew he was gonna try to kill Jack.
We haven't seen the last of Rudy. He'll be back to screw things up before his story is really over.

Not a good episode in my opinion. Too much sneaking around the fat gavone in CTU and eyeballing in the motorcade, and not much action otherwise. In any case, I think the whole episode failed because they put so much emphasis on the motorcade attack in the previews and the show ended up having no substance, just continuous suspicious looks back and forth at CTU. They should have devoted a few more minutes to this battle in the street.

The Sports Guy touched on some dissapointments from this season of 24...
Every good TV show is entitled to an off year from time to time. Fine. But there've been some inexcusable mistakes in this current season, starting with the teenager trailing Jack to the helicopter (really, a 16-year-old kid would be able to follow the great Jack Bauer without him noticing?) … That same kid just randomly noticing that terrorists were emptying out of a van at LAX and urging his mom to stop the car so he could warn Jack (come on) … President Palmer being assassinated in the morning, then Fox News dropping that as its lead story within four hours to concentrate on the riveting U.S.-Russia treaty (really, an assassination wouldn't carry the day?) … The current president acting so spineless and wishy-washy, it's simply impossible to believe he could have risen to any position above assistant manager at Carl's Jr. … Jack ending up with cracked ribs in one of the earlier episodes, then never mentioning them again … Sean Astin's completely improbable stint as the head of CTU (the worst casting job they ever did) … Jack returning from the dead and everyone at CTU acting like he just came back from a vacation (and where the hell are the Chinese, by the way?) … And the president's chief of staff getting involved in a confusing "We have to release nerve gas to terrorists so patriotism will improve or something" plot that ended up with him pulling a Vince Foster.
Everything has just seemed too far-fetched -- and this was the same show that once had Jack's daughter nearly mauled by a cougar, so that's saying something. Plus, aren't they just repeating stuff by now? How many times can CTU have a mole? How many times can somebody at CTU order Jack to come back to the office, followed by him knocking a co-worker unconscious and going out on his own? Five? Ten? Fifteen? And why aren't they sticking to the minute-by-minute approach anymore? For instance, last night Jack got tasered by the dude from "Robocop" and it was like they fast-forwarded three minutes -- suddenly, Jack was waking up from being unconscious and Robocop (who looks like he went to Jerry Jones' plastic surgeon over the summer) was holding a gun on him. Have we just abandoned the real-time gimmick here?
(Note: All of that said, wild horses couldn't drag me away from the TV for the two-hour extravaganza next Monday. Now that's a great TV show -- even during a C-minus season, it's still mandatory viewing. Which reminds me: When I was in Houston, we walked right by Tony Almeida while he was tearing into a hot dog before the All-Star Game. First of all, he's about 5-foot-6 -- he makes Kiefer Sutherland look like Stromile Swift. Second of all, I had to fight off the urge to scream in the Jack Bauer voice, "DROP THE HOT DOG, TONY! DROP THE HOT DOG! DROP IT RIGHT NOW! DO AS I SAY!" See, this is why the J-Bug needed to be in Houston -- he absolutely would have done the Jack Bauer voice and scared Tony into dropping the hot dog. Maybe I can work this into my next ESPN contract: "The J-Bug has to travel with me on every road trip.")

Dissapointing or not, it still kicks almost every other show's ass.
The Sports Guy touched on some dissapointments from this season of 24....I agree with the exception of CNN dropping the Palmer assasination - it was still on the headline page a couple of episodes ago. This weird writing happens every year and I can live with most of it. They do need to come up with a story that eliminates most moles next year, and not put idiots in charge of the country or CTU.
