View Full Version : Just an idea: Pavano for Vernon Wells
Could this be a possible trade? I know that Pavano has talked about playing with his old teammate AJ Burnett, and now that Burnett is a Blue Jay, why not pull the trigger? It would fill the void in center for the Yankees and help the Blue Jay staff.

Only if they throw in Roy Halladay.

LMAO
Id do that in a second but the other team has to accept and the jays would be insane to do that. BTW the Jays already have the best starting staff in the Al east, and if anything need to add more hitting.
IMPOSSIBLE
they've got Halladay, Burnett, Chacin, Towers and Lily

Toronto would never go for it.

Ummm, the Blue Jays are set with starting pitching. They're not going to trade a superior player who makes far less and fills a much bigger need of theirs just to make us happy. If Wells goes anywhere it will be for Abreu, which actually makes sense for the Blue Jays.

I know they just signed Burnett but he's not that great.
I'll given them the best pitcher in the AL in Halladay, but but Burnett isn't improving their staff that much.

EEEE! No way. Vernon Wells is not leaving in Toronto. If he leaves, the Blue Jays, don't even have a huge bat in the lineup.

AJ Burnett has proper stuff, if he can harness it, big if true, then he significantly improves that rotation.

Wells is their franchise player, he is going nowhere.

The Jays are trying to beat us. They are not going to fill our holes in trades.

I agree but he is a huge question mark, especially moving from the NL to the AL.

We can't sacrifice that much to fill the CF hole, besides we have Crosby, I would give them Crosby for Wells, and if they balk, maybe throw in Womack, yeah thats what I would do.

Toronto would laugh at us if we offered them Pavano for Wells straight up.

Why would they do this?
Their pitching staff is set:
Halladay
Burnett
Chacin
Lilly
Towers
Where does Pavano fit in??

i dont trade any starters until we know what we have in them.
i'd rather have crosby in the lineup than trade pitching.

Hes overrated but a solid number 3 at worst likely a solid number 2.
You also have to remember Boston's and New Yorks staffs arent that great
Blue Jays
Halladay:Young Ace
Burnett:Young Solid number 2 guy with potetional to be an ace
Chacin:Solid number 3
Towers:Good 2005 and a good pitcher who will be a great number 4 or maybe a number 3
Lilly:Bad year in 2005 because of injuries but all star in 2004
Yankees:
Randy Johnson:Now that he has a legit pitching coach he is a legit ace. He is old but still an ace and had a killer second half especially september and October last year.
Mussina: Used to be a number 2 but now he is an injury risk and is declining. Could still be great but not as likely to have a "MOOOOOSE" season
Chacon: Wont have a sub 2 era, but will be a solid number 3-4 guy
Pavano:HOrrible pitcher with one good season
Wright:A good pitcher who is never healthy
Wang:SOlid middle of rotation guy
Red Sox
Schilling:Will never be the same as 2004 but wont be as bad as 2005
Beckett:Could be an ace could be injured could be mediocre but i say solid number 2-3 in 2006
Wakefield:Solid pitcher
Clement: Not that bad but not that good(has good stuff but mega control problems and is a headcase)
Arroyo:meh solid number 5 dude
Wells:Still good in a number 4 spot
Id take the Jays rotation

Unfortunately, by the time you know "what you have in them", and decide that they should be traded .. well the rest of the league has access to the same info.

after all the injuries we've had in the last 2 years i dont touch the starting pitching.
this year it sort of reminds me of the offseason after 02 when pettite was injured, moose was avg, roger was avg and hurt, wells got killed by anaheim.
i say leave the starters as is and shore up the pen.

exactly and some teams for some reason still think Pavano is a good pitcher, so we should trade him now as he will likely never have a era under 4.30 for us, his problem wasnt the shoulder his problem is being Carl Pavano.

Potential is the key word. He does have a ton of potential but he also hasn't lived up to any of it. [Career: 49-50 ERA 3.73 - -- not quiet ace stats]. I would agree he has all the tools but he can never put it all together. Also, like a said earlier, moving from the NL to the AL isn't going to help him out in anyway. I think it's pretty fair to assume he'll have a tougher time in the AL East this year than the NL East last year. Therefore, I think he'll be worse than his 12-12 3.44 ERA last year. If he is he won't be a solid number 2.

There would be absolutely no way for us to get rid of Pavano and take Wells, no matter how many teams are involved. Pavano is an injury-prone pitcher who got lucky and had an amazing season on his walk year. Vernon Wells is Toronto's best offensive presence. How does this make sense at all?

If the Jays would have gotten Giles then I said we should make a run at Rios. But now they'll probably keep him, and if not, doubt they would trade interdivision
