Is there a possability that the Braves trade him by mid-season if they are out of it?
If that's the case, maybe we can put together a rotisserie CF with Matsui/Crosby/Giles (if he signs), and perhaps pick up Jones or another CF that's on the market at the deadline?

Well, first of all, I doubt the Braves will be out of it. Secondly I think his value on the trade market would far exceed his actual production as he is a pretty one dimenisonal offensive player, and declining defensively.

The Braves, out of it? Isn't that an oxymoron?

Yes, until the NLDS.

The Braves won't be out of it, the Mets continually choke when they play the Braves so they can sign everyone they want, until they beat the Mets beat the Braves the Braves will not be out of it. They also will not trade a guy who finished second in the MVP voting to the Yankees who really don't have much to offer for him.

Forget Giles after the 55/5 offer from Toronto.

"I know let's trade Kevin Brown to the Braves for Andruw Jones, that's totally a fair trade!"

That was an exaggerated report. Ricciardi specifically said yesterday that offering Giles 5 years would be crazy. Its assumed the actual offer was 4/44.

Different offer.

Same effect.

I can't see Atlanta being "out of it" next season by the trade deadline. Also, Andruw Jones is probably a player that Atlanta will look to lock up with an extension. They probably wouldn't entertain any trade offers for him. The Yankees best shot at Jones would be to get him on the Free Agent market next season.

The yankees will not offer 4/44 and even if they do, there is no guarantee giles will come.

Here we go again...

I think it was about this time last year, a lot of folks on this board thought the Yanks were going to move Kevin Brown and cash to the Braves for Andruw.

Seriously, what would the Yankees have to offer for the person who finished 2nd in the NL MVP voting?

I can't wait until this time next year when "will the Braves trade Andruw to Yankees" threads start popping up again.

The odds of this happening are about the same as me starting for the Yankees on Opening Day.

The Braves don't make too many "July 31st" trades..not really since Fred McGriff in 1993. So I think they will keep Jones and see if they can win again. But maybe they should try some July trades...perhaps players are thinking "management does not believe in us" and that hurts them in the post season.

I can. I'm faster than Juan Pierre. I can't hit, just like Juan Pierre. And I can throw the ball about 20 feet, like Juan Pierre. Oh wait, wrong thread? :D

You'll be hearing from the Tampa offices next week.

I'm pretty astonished that Jones has the offensive numbers he does while only posting a .263 batting average. That's illegal.

Why? You think his sole concern is money?

Not if he's on pace to hit 50+ homers again.

my guess is that they would want too much in return for him.

the time to trade for Andruw was last offseason.

That was when everyone was kicking around the whole Kevin Brown for Andruw thing. If the Yanks had gone a little further with that and were willing to shell out some cash it probably could have gotten done.

After the 2005 season it's impossible to trade for him without getting bent over.
