Just speculating here, but Javy Vazquez wants to go back to the east coast, and Pavano is miserable in New York. If a straight up deal were ever possible, would you flip Pavano to the D-Backs and take a second chance on Javy?

I would. The Yankees and the D-Backs wouldn't.

I'd do it in a heartbeat

I think I would. I wanted to keep Javy the first go-round.

Philly won't trade him.

I'd rather have Pavano than Vazquez. I think Javy is a mess right now. He's had 2 really bad seasons in a row, and for $10 mill, I want no part of that.

Hell yeah I'd do that. But its not happening.

Javy have only 1 and half bad season and last season he pitched on a hitter friendly park. I would like to have a pitcher who wants to pitch for you than a pitcher who does not want.

Javy Vazquez would be great if we only played an 81 game season.

Why would Javy wanna come back here? (to NY)

Other than the east coast thing. I mean, NY is probably the last place on the East Coast he'd wanna be.

Why does everyone want to drop Pavano? He wasn't that bad, in fact, I thought he was consistently average last year. Worth 10 million.....HECK NO, but in free agency you are going to overspend. If healthy, Pavano will give you a chance to win a lot more than not...Lets let him get healthy and pitch. Yeesh...Even Clemens had a bad year his first year in New York.

What is the fascination with Vazquez, as a testament to how bad a pitcher he is he went BACK to the NL, the NL West for that matter, and still posted an ERA over 4. I dont look at the wins because really he played for the D-Backs but LOOK AT THE ERA. That is not someone you want on the Yanks against the rest of the offensive juggernauts in the AL East.

IMO Javy and Pavano are in the same boat, but Javy has the higher upside.

I would though I can't imagine that Javy would want to come back here after the way he was excoriated by fans and media alike after his last very brief stint.

I'd definitely trade Pavano for Vazquez. Vazquez is the better pitcher.

That game was Kevin Brown's mess and coming in with the bases loaded is quite hard to stop the bleeding, especially to a team that was on a roll.

No, Pavano was pretty good his first few starts, then he got hit with a line drive in an orioles game and a shoulder injury after that and it went downhill from that. When healthy Pavano is a good pitcher. Solid number 3 guy.

In a New York second. Javy is better than Pavano any day.

no way, both are equally bad though

I certainly acknowledge it was Brown's mess.

But Javy gave up the salami - the WORST possible scenario - to Johnny Damon of all people.

Freakin Aaron Small could have gotten out of that inning with a couple ground balls and just 1 or 2 runs I'd imagine.

But that's why we call him Jome-Run Javy...

I think it might work. I"m not ready to give up on Pavano, though. Maybe Aaron Small for Javy? :p

It's a wash. Both have high ERAs but Javy's BAA is lower because he gives up less singles and doubles, and more gopher balls. Pavano was awful last season, but I like the fact that when he's on he keeps the ball on the ground. Javy, being a right handed fly ball pitcher, really worries me pitching in Yankee stadium.

Javy wanted to be here. Pavano wants to leave.
Javy is a work horse. Pavano is injury prone.
Javy has less time on his contract. Pavano has more.

I'd do this deal in a heartbeat.

Javy>Pavano. Always has been. Either way, the DBacks want to get salary relief from this deal, not take on a $30 million contract in Pavano. Pavano will be our chip to get a CFer.
