View Full Version : Scott Eyre for bullpen?
BP has him as top of the list last year in preventing inherited runners from scoring.
HIs stats for the last few years have been decent.
Anybody familiar with him?

The White Sox acquired him in our infamous White Flag trade with the Giants. He had control problems with us but apparently he got that straightened out.

Apparently we're talking to him.

Looks like a pretty decent option - keeps the ball in the park and doesn't give up many free passes.

I read articles that stated his first preference is to go back to the giants and he prefers to pitch in the NL. The mets have also shown interest in him.
Scotty Eyre. I remember him as a 150 pound kid throwing fire in the South Atlantic League in the early 90's. Hurt his arm, and never threw that hard again (though he did put on about 75 pounds).
He'd be a good fit. Solid lefty.
I thought he already signed with someone - maybe the Giants? I could be mistaken.

Nope. That post article I linked is dated today.

I like Eyre, but he's not my first choice.

Aah, ok. Then what I read was that he was interested in staying with the Giants, or atleast was talking to them.

If we get Ryan and Farnsworth, then no. If we get one (or none) of those two, then I wouldn't mind takign him

He's a good option but not a top one.
After Ryan he is the best FA lefty reliever. I'd go after him even if we sign Ryan, as Ryan would be a set-up man and won't be used in the traditional role of a lefty out of the pen.

Ryan + Gordon/Farnsworth + Eyre?

In their quest for bullpen help, the Yankees have been in contact several times with Tommy Tanzer, the agent for left-handed relief pitcher Scott Eyre. The 33-year-old Eyre is unlikely to re-sign with the Giants, for whom he made 243 appearances over the past three seasons, but it's believed his preference is to remain in the National League in spite of strong interest from the Yankees, Red Sox, Indians and White Sox.

Wouldn't be my top choice, Kyle would.
Does anyone know what type of free agent Eyre is? A, B, or C?

Eyre has named 4 NL teams as his preferred landing spots but has not named any AL teams. Maybe that will come later, or maybe he just doesn't want to switch leagues.
Ryan is my first choice for the lefty spot, with Matt Smith from the minors as the situational lefty. Smith is murder against lefties, especially last season, when someone got the idea to move him to the pen, after the first month of the season. He can hamdle it, in spite of his problems in the AFL.
Taveras would be my late inning righty, with Mo at the end, of course.
Smith, Taveras, Ryan, Mo. With Sturtze, Small/Proctor/DePaula in the long relief roles.
Sounds good to me.

would be another decent 6th/7th inning option, but no Ryan or Gordon.............

He wasn't leaving the National League so the Yankees were never an option.
And the noose begins to tighten.

this is what I am afraid of. While the yankees are waiting for gordon and ryan, one by one the good relievers are being signed.

Yeah, I would get Ryan in here fast and make him a mega offer. 9 mill a year will probably be at least what it costs. We should start at 4 years/36 million, and work from there. Don't let him leave without the deal signed. This signing could help the team more than any offensive player in the coming years.

Time to move on to Mike Myers.
We've only got two available spots in our bullpen. I wouldn't want to waste one one Mike Myers.

No big deal. Not a calamity. He is #3 on the wish list anyway, for a lefty, behind Ryan, and Smith from the minors.

Agree. He is not in the cards, I hope.
