I see that people watch it from the DH thread and Things I like thread. I first started watching this show because Entourage ended at 10:30 and nothing else was on. Now I watch it because I have seen it on after Desperate Housewives. It's such a good show. Last night's episode was awesome.
It seems like Derek is staying with Addison out of obligation because she's his wife. I don't see that lasting. He looked awfully uncomfortable at the end when she grabbed his arm as they were walking out.

It looks like he will try and give the marriage one last go around just to be certain about his feelings. I guess he concluded that marriage shouldn't be taken lightly and he owed himself and his wife a second chance to live up to their commitment.
I'm curious to see what George's next move is now that Meredith is no longer with Derek.

Addison seems like she still loves Derek...who knows, maybe she realized how jacked up it was to sleep with his best friend and really wants him back. Doesn't change the fact that she's a cold, wicked B.
I think at some point she's going to do something to make Derek realize he was better off without her and he'll end up with Meredith. It might take a few episodes, or even until next season...but the drama leading up to Derek and Meredith getting together will be worth it. George is best played as the hopelessly romantic friend...the show wouldn't be the same if he and Meredith were a couple.
How about what Alex did last night? He screwed up twice and then stole Christina's glory...taking credit for 'finding' that leg was low. If Izzie hooks up with him I'm going to be pissed...the dude is a selfish jerk.

So glad we have a thread on this now. One of the best shows on television now. Last night's episode killed me. When Meredith was by Bonnie as she was dying, yelling, "what about her?! what about her?!", I completely lost it. One of the better episodes last night. I love Alex though. When the show started, Alex was a cocky a-hole but now we see another side of him. Maybe what happened will just boost his confidence again.

Izzie is the little girl from the movie My Father the Hero...look at her now :) . i saw George O'Malley walking down west bway in NYC right after the show came out. i said hey buddy you got a hit show . he didnt even hear me and i was like 5 feet from him... i think he was in the O'Malley character. :D

One thing I forgot to mention, I like the music they play.THey have great music. I had to find the song that they played last night at the end. It was "Today Has Been Ok" by Emiliana Torrini.
Friends tell me it's spring
My window show the same
Without you here the seasons pass me by
I know you were not new
That loved like me and you
All the same I miss you
Today has been ok
Today has been ok
The preacher lost his son
He's known by all in town
He found him with another son of God
Feeding on the prayer
Nevermind what God said
But love had lost its cause
And I thought today had been ok
Today has been ok
Today has been ok
Wind has burned your skin
The lovely air so thin
The salty water's underneath your feet
No one's gone in vain
Here is where you'll stay
'Cause life has been insane but
Today has been ok
Today has been ok
Today has been ok
Today has been ok

I'm so glad someone started a thread about this show. I really liked it last season, but it is my favorite show this year. The characters are all so complex- on the one hand you wanted McDreamy to pick Meredith, but on the other hand, she really can be annoying and whiny. And Addison can be a b*tch, but you really don't hate her.
It's a total soap opera, but it's a good soap opera.

I'm still kind of lost as I haven't seen that many episodes. I would really like to see the first season on DVD. Why they don't release it before the second season begins seems stupid to me. I always assumed that it was McDreamy because he's hot ("dreamy").
Was Meredith also a slut before Addison came back or is this her rebounding from Derek? Has anything happened between George and Meredith in the past or is it only him liking her?
SuperMario66
11-29-05, 02:34 PM
Nothing has happened with George and Mer, he just really likes her.
Mer picked McDreamy up at the same bar and took him home, so maybe she is like that a lot, but moreso since Addison came back.
Christina started calling him McDreamy, and then everybody else started joining in.

If Meredith and O'Malley end up together I will stop watching the show...it just isn't right. Meredith belongs with Derek...it's going to take a while, but at some point Addison will leave and open the door for Meredith & Derek to get together. Alex doesn't deserve Izzie...but she needs to take the stick out of her butt and lighten up a little. If the writers decided to take a hiatus from Christina's storyline and send her on an extended vacation it wouldn't bother me in the least.

Dr. Bailey rocks. I think she is the glue that really holds this show together yet no one here ever mentions her! Bailey is one of the best written -- and best acted -- characters on TV. Last night was the most unusually realistic presentation of pregnancy for this kind of character on this kind of show. Being pregnant does not in any way change the fact that Bailey is still the best damn doctor around...but it does have some complications for her at the moment, and the show's honest about that without reducing Bailey to a hormonal mess.
Back when she revealed she was pregnant and was bitching to the chief about her hormones and men and carrying a boy, and said "Men! They suck the life out of you from the beginning." was so real I was in tears laughing. Being pregnant sucks the life/energy/ability to think coherent thoughts right out of you and she nailed it. I am anxious to see her husband. You just know he will be something special.
fyi, Chandra Wison gave birth in real life at the end of October so unfortunately we are going to see less of her in the not too distant episodes.

Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head
As Meredith and Cristina discuss their relationship woes at the Emerald City Bar, their session of lamenting is interrupted when Joe, the bartender, collapses. And as Chief Webber recovers from brain surgery, he appoints one surgeon as interim chief - much to the dismay of another surgeon -- and he assigns George to report back with hospital gossip. While a devastated Meredith learns more about Derek and Addison's relationship, a confused Cristina tries to make decisions about her connection with Dr. Burke.

Okay, after the Cris complained to Burke he confronted the new doctor who in turn put him in his place. She ended up saving the girl's leg and Burke realized that by getting involved he acted like a boyfriend instead of a surgeon.
Meredith had to take the tube out of the woman she saved because the lady had a DNR. When the woman died her daughter with her girlfriend that the 3 older ladies were surrounding her. Meredith left the room and went into the closet where she proceeded to have a panic attack about her own mother dying alone. McDreamy followed her in the closet and helped her.
Izzy told the pregnant girl about her own pregnancy and how she gave her baby up for adoption. The girl's mother called her out on it because she thought Izzy was interfering and shouldn't be one to judge how they live their lives, because the pregnant daughter didn't tell her the whole story.
Cristina apologized to the new doctor.
That's all I can remember right now, I hope that helps :)

A code black at a hospital is a bomb threat. You saw in the previews Mcdreamy saying "if anybody wants to leave, go." If they had been in contact with a deadly virus they wouldn't be free to go. Also, Christina was constantly being told not to move. She had her finger in it.
It's a bomb.

Last week's episode was weird for me. My ex is a nurse and she worked the burn unit, which dealt with necrotizing fasciitis AND they went on strike. I laughed when they caved so fast. In real life they would have brought in hundreds of contract nurses and spent twice what it cost to cave in order to try and break the union. U.S. Nursing would have been brought in. Part of me wish they had and O'Malley would have had to grow a spine.

I missed the first 20 minutes of the show tonight... anybody want to fill me in? I started watching it right when Dr.Burke told Dr.Grey to page "Code Black" to the rest of the staff... What happened to Dr.Bailey's husband? How did the paramedic get her hand in the wound? How did the bomb get inside the patient? What were Izzie and Dr.Karev doing before they started going at it? I need details!
From that part on, I thought it was really good! I have a theory that someone importatnt dies in the 2nd half of the episode... There was too much drama tonight and too many people are near death-- there can't be a completely happy ending next week!

Him and his friend built a WW2 era bazooka, and attempted to use it in one of their WW2 re-enactments. When it didn't go off, BazookaGuts stood in front of it to inspect. Not surprisingly, it went off and hit him.
Several plot holes come to mind. When Friday Addams took her hand out of the guy, shouldn't the shell have exploded immediately? How is it possible for a huge bazooka shell to only ENTER a body, wouldn't something so large and fired with such force shoot right through him? Who the hell re-enacts WW2 anyway?

Sorry if I'm coming across as obnoxious, I've just been hearing about this show for weeks, as all my friends seem to really be into it. After our Super Bowl party tonight they made me watch it, and I really didn't like it. I thought it was like a poorly-acted, implausible, and contrived episode or "ER". Normally I would just ignore such a show and forget about it, but my annoying friends insist of talking about it all the time and it's gotten on my nerves. :)

She is pretty hot, she's got a good look.
My point is, they made such a big deal that Friday Addams stay perfectly still and not move a millimeter, but apparently it's OK for her to jerk her hand out, sprint out of the room, and the MILF to stick her hand in there and grab the bomb. Not that it matters...at that point I was hoping that bazooka shell would blow up and kill everyone on the show. :)

I usually love the show but last night did not do it for me. The bomb-bazooka shell thing was to over the top. If they had just gone the expected route and let it be a suicide bomber, it would have seemed much more realistic to me.
Dr Bailey's storyline was, as usual, awesome. I hope they don't kill off her husband but I bet they do. Or maybe the husband pulls through but something goes wrong with the delivery/baby. I guess I have no idea which I am sure was their intent.
One other thing - I used to have an intense dislike for George. He was just too wimpy. They have really broadened his character to the point of him now becoming a favorite.

I never watched this show until last night. I admit, they reeled me in with all the promos for the show all week and throughout the game. The main plot was waay over the top...a bit much. The pregnant doctor....I'm always leery when they depict pregnancy on t.v. I'm a big midwife and homebirth fan (assisted homebirth, that is, for low risk mothers!) and I used to be a childbirth educator. We are all so bombarded by gloom and doom birth stories on television and in movies that so taint how we view childbirth in this culture. While Dr. Bailey is committed to an unmedicated labor and birth, the other Doctor keeps trying to push meds on her! How utterly ridiculous. It's good that they show her up and moving around, rather than lying flat on her back which is harmful to the baby. I won't be surprised if they end up turning her labor and birth into some type of crisis! T.V. producers seem unable to get that showing an uncomplicated and unmedicated birth would be refreshing and realistic.
The thing that bugged me the most about the show is finding out at the end that the episode is "to be continued...."
What about Dr.Bailey's husband? How did end up having brain surgery?
He was on his way to the hospital to be with her for the birth. He was in a car accident.

How is the bazooka so unstable that it could explode at any time but didn't explode when it entered the man's body? And if the bazooka is so unstable how were they able to transport him to the hospital and then to the operating room without blowing up - based on the description the EMT wasn't holding the bazooka, just had her hand in the wound. My question is why is an entire wing of the hospital in danger over a 1.5 pound shell. If they used standard gunpowder or similar, the most it will do is splatter him real well around the OR. I would doubt something of that size could blow out any walls.

First, the whole hospital was not in danger, as was said on the show numerous times. Just the surgical wing that Burke had the patient in. Second, they have NO IDEA if the ammo is so unstable or why it hadn't exploded yet. That's why they're being so careful. And "Friday Addams" was an inexperienced EMT who stuck her hand inside the man's wound in an attempt to keep him from bleeding to death (many of the doctors told her that wasn't the best idea she ever had). Her hand just happened to be resting on the ammo. Thirdly, Meredith (aka. "what's-her-name") got her hand inside because she had her hand on the EMT's hand when she was starting to freak out and when she ran off, I guess Meredith just instinctively put her hand inside. The fact that the bomb didn't go off then should tell them that maybe its not as unstable as they thought. Seeing as it is homemade, it isn't surprising that it would be nonfunctional. But I certainly don't blame them for treating it like it could go off any second--just to keep everyone safe. And fourthly, the man with the ammo inside of him would have probably died on impact if this was real life. Its not--its drama, its TV. I don't know why everyone is expecting it to be so realistic.
Anyway, I loved the show. The Bailey subplot is heartbreaking and I can't wait to find out how it all plays out.

I think we all realize that this is just a TV show, and nothing more. However, there is a difference between suspending disbelief, and ignoring massive, gaping plot holes. If the bomb was so unstable, wouldn't it have gone off while the patient was being loaded onto the ambulance, driven to the hospital, or unloaded again?
I think we all realize that this is just a TV show, and nothing more. However, there is a difference between suspending disbelief, and ignoring massive, gaping plot holes. Anyway, I don't really care much either way, I'm just disappointed because everyone has told me what a good show "GA" was, and it definitely did not live up to expectations on Sunday night.
I kinda feel the same way. I have a tendency to evaluate movies/TV shows alot...I took alot of media classes in college. Im always looking for the plot holes. Every movie/show has them....I thought this particular GA episode had a ton of them.
Granted, I normally dont watch this show, so I wont sit here and say how great/bad it is. I just thought the writing was bad in this episode.
I really love the show and if you had been involved with the characters for the past season you would be able to get past the "gaping holes" in the plot. I didn't see them, I was more focused on how the actors were going to cope with the events. I viewed it quite like Misti did, I was completely enthralled for the whole show.
To each his/her own I suppose.I kind of enjoyed it too. Despite Deb telling me before I even put it on how terrible it was supposed to be. I guess I kind of looked past the plot holes.
My only question is why Meredit always looks like she hasn't slept in 40 days? I want to find her attractive, I really do, but she just has this "worn out" look about her.
And I'm very upset that I missed the shower scene someone referred to earlier on in this thread.

 That's so true. She always looks roughed up. I know they are interns and supposedly not getting sleep but the rest of them don't look as worn out as she does.
I saw her on punked and she still looked like that and she didn't seem too friendly, but that may just have been the New Yorker in her.

The shower scene was the only part of the show that I thought didn't really fit it. Then again I'm a chick so that might have something to do with it ;)

I thought the episode was pretty good. I didn't find the bazooka reference implausable either. I think some people use the word unstable only as a synonym for fragile. Homemade ammo is unstable because it is also "unpredictable". It could go off without provocation because it was put together wrong or it might not go off at all, despite wicked provocation, because it was put together wrong.
Two dorks pretend-playing Band of Brothers with a homemade bazooka is pretty plausible. Trust me, there are plenty more of them out there, in cities all across the USA, recreating every battle known to man. However, if the bazooka was an Army issued, Grade A WWll number, complete with ammo, then it would not be plausible that the dude were still alive, let alone in one piece. But a pretend bazooka might not have the force or power of the real thing. I just thought it would be inherently understood that the bazooka that these two characters were playing with was a facsimile, not the actual real thing.
Guys get shot all the time with homemade projectiles of varying degrees of explosiveness. Talk to any ER or trauma professional. This stuff happens. I would not be suprised if this plot line were inspired by a real life scenario.
I don't think Ricci was holding the ammo either. I think she was holding the bleeder and her hand was touching the projectile.
Anyway, I liked the show. George is growing on me as my favorite character. Also, I'm starting to like Addison too. I had heard that they were going to kill off a recurring character this season but I thought it was going to be the bartender, Joe, with a continuation of his brain tumor thingie. I hope it's not one of the main characters.

The major concern of the bazooka shell exploding is not necessarily just it exploding but the amount of oxygen in the building particularly in the OR. We can not use electric shavers on a patient if their roommate is on oxygen for fear of causing an explosion due to a spark.

Saying she "didn't seem too friendly" is an understatement! I talked to a few other people who saw that episode of Punk'd (which I never usually watch) and we all agreed, she came across as a psycho 8itch who was not joking when she talked about stabbing the waitress and leaving her to bleed on the sidewalk...I always liked her (character) before that, but seeing her when she didn't know she was being watched was just...scary....

She is in the February issue of Self magazine and she says that she eats about 3000 calories per day to maintain her 100 pound weight due to her "jackrabbit metabolism" as she calls it. According to the article, she had "every test in the book" to rule out serious health problems on why she couldn't gain weight. But they couldn't find anything medically wrong with her.

She was born in Boston but raised in NY. I'm pretty sure she said something about the New Yorker in her coming out during the Punk'd episode.
From wikipedia
Ellen Pompeo (born November 10, 1969 in Everett, Massachusetts) is an American actress. Pompeo was born outside of Boston, then lived for a time as a child on New York's Upper West Side. She eventually moved to Miami, where she was a cocktail waitress before heading back to New York, where in 1996 she was bartending at the SoHo Bar & Grill

It was so obvious that guy was going to get blown to pieces. Someone had to considering the drawn out bomb storyline. Last night was much better than last week and now I can't wiat for next week. I'd like to say it is the end of the "Sheppards" but that seems too obvious - there will have to be a twist.

Same reaction here. When I saw the bomb squad guy walk out with the thing in his hand, you could pretty much tell something was gonna happen. I was not ready for the way they showed it though. Whoa.

Tonight's episode was so incredibly wonderful in every imaginable way. Here are the high points:
1. McSteamy was hot. McDreamy punching him in the face was hotter.
2. McDreamy makes 2 mil a year?! Is it possible for him to be more perfect?
3. Spontaneous orgasms for a day would be fun.
4. Mer and George! Oh my gosh! We all knew it was coming, but I didn't see it coming tonight!
5. I want Addison to go back to New York.
6. Next week looks crazy awesome.
Now you have my thoughts.

GEORGE?!?!?! From McDreamy to George?!?!?!?!? No f*cking way... This is not a "Ross and Rachel" kind of storyline. It is not believable that George and Meredith would end up together... Or that she would even find him attractive. She likes bad boys- not bumbling, sweet doormats.

I concur. George becomes more and more pathetic with each episode. What exactly does he love about Meredith? She ignores him and CLEARLY isn't interested! And why does everyone encourage him to share his feelings with her? She isn't going to love him back... and they all know that! Nice friends....
That being said, I still love the show. But for the first time, the storyline was too implausible... And that was disappointing. :( I hope that I see more of McSteamy though! :)

I'm really liking Addison. And I totally agree that Dr. Bailey steals the scenes. I'm glad George moved out and I'm totally psyched that the curvy Latina doctor came on to him. She was beautiful. It would make for a nice story line for him to have a real relationship rather than mooning over Meredith. Maybe they all have to move out on Meredith for McDreamy to move back in to her life.
