Maybe Roger now tries his best Nolan Ryan impression and pitches until well into his forties for a chance to play with his son.

Count on it. I was really hoping that Koby was going to attend the University of Texas...would have been great to see him play for his dad's alma mater and help the Horns win another championship.

IMO, I think this is mostly a publicity stunt by the Astros. People weren't sure if he was even going to be drafted before the Astros took him in the 8th round. Not only that, but the Astros want to move him to catcher...he's a P/3B...never really caught before.

He's a good player, no doubt, but I don't think he was even the best third baseman that was coming into Texas next season.

If by publicity stunt you mean the Astros using it as a means of persuasion for Roger to forego retirement and stick around long enough to play catch with his son in the bigs, then you've got me sold.

I think it's both. I think they want him to stick around for awhile and they want to have the great story of the "Clemens battery" in a big league game.

What's the timeframe for moving a kid from 3B to catcher and having him ready for major league action? Roger's what, 41? By the time Koby is decent enough to get called up, will Roger still be pitching as well? Or is it like you said, could this be just a publicity stunt to fill the ballpark?

That's what's weird. If they want to do it, they're going to have to really rush Clemens up to the big leagues.

I'm really not sure, but Mike Piazza never caught in his life before he signed with the Dodgers. It couldn't have taken him that long to get to the big leagues.

Publicity stunt? Sure, but not the first in baseball, and it won't be the last.
