If Chad Ogea's shoulder passes a physical, the veteran right-hander will sign a minor league contract with the Yankees. Ogea has been throwing for the Yankees at their minor league complex and shown enough stuff to get the Yankees' interest.

Ogea, 30, pitched briefly in the Indians' minor league system last year after trying to come back from shoulder surgery in 1999. He appeared in one game for Buffalo (Triple-A) and four games for Akron (Double-A).

Ogea's big league record is 37-35. His best season was 1996 when he was 10-6 with a 4.79 ERA. He last pitched in the big leagues for the 1999 Phillies and went 6-12 with a 5.63 ERA.

an e.r.a. of 1.00 would be to high for this offense

Here's a funny story: back in 1994, when Ogea was pitching for the Cleveland Indians, Manny Ramirez heard on the news that "O.J." was fleeing from police in a white bronco. He immediately tried to call "Ogea" to find out what the problem was, and if he was going to be able to pitch.

With a name such as "Ogea" I'm surprised his nickname isn't "the butcher".

BTW, Manny Ramirez must be an idiot!

Here's a news flash: he is. Someone said to me "with Manny and Everett the Red Sox have the best outfield in the majors!" Maybe the most mentally unstable outfield.

The Astros have the best outfield in the majors. None of them can hit like Ramirez, but their group runs four deep, not two. Besides, Ramirez hasn't even played a game in the outfield yet this season, so you can't really describe him as being a Red Sox outfielder. :)
