My Brooklyn Dodger fan dude is speaking to me again, at least by way of posting Yankee pix. A long drought, but here are some of the better ones.

"New York centerfielder Mickey Mantle makes a leaping pose for photographers during Yankee Workout at Ebbets Field, home of the Brooklyn Dodgers, in New York Sept 27. Mickey tested his injured right leg and announced he did not think he would be ready for the World Series which opens at Yankee Stadium, New York, Sept 28. 'I'm not hopeful of playing in the Series - at least in the first game or two at Yankee Stadium,' Mickey said. He said, although it doesn't interfere with his hitting, the injury hurts when he runs." Mantle's assessment of his injury proved correct, as he did not play in Games 1 and 2, which, ironically, were both won by the Yankees".

"Where money is involved, so, too, are deceit and dishonesty—even when it involves the simplest of pleasures and time-honored traditions. And quite unfortunately, the truth is seldom (if ever) revealed. Take, for instance, the world-renowned "Baby Ruth" candy bar. Introduced in 1921 by the Curtiss Candy Company, this tasty 5-cent (half the price of its candy-aisle contemporaries) chocolate bar was assumed by the masses to be a celebration of the New York Yankees' Babe Ruth—a 1920 acquisition whose rise to baseball prominence was, at the time, underway at a meteoric rate. Eventually noticing the chewy treat's incredible popularity, Ruth demanded royalties for the obvious use of his name. Curtiss, however, countered with the argument that its product had been named for Ruth Cleveland—the daughter of former U.S. President Grover Cleveland. The implausible aspect of that claim was that Ruth Cleveland, born in 1891, died in 1904—a full 12 years before Curtiss Candy had even opened! Accepting the curious explanation, by 1930, Ruth produced his own candy bar, "Ruth's Home Run Candy." But shortly after it hit the shelves, Curtiss persuaded the patent office to turn Ruth down, arguing that the similarities of the products' names would cause "confusion." Consequently halted from marketing his sweets, Ruth barked to Curtiss, "Well, I ain't eatin' your damned candy bar anymore." the Babe himself tossing samples of his short-lived product into the Yankee Stadium right-field bleachers".

He's strangely got a grandson who's a Yankee fan. I say strange, since, as they've enlightened me, every single Yankee loss is a good thing for Brooklyn. In fact, they cheered Mo's loss and last October, they were all jubilant as if it were 1955 (guess who they beat?).
Still, it took the help of the Brooklyn Mod to figure him out, so even if we're not "speaking", at least he's posting on the NYY forum on the other board. He'd previous put up some awesome shots of the Mick, but under the "History" forum, when he was mad at me.
Long story, but but it's between him "tolerating" me or "angry" at me; there's never any "like" (nor any love lost, apparently). Very long story.

The Brooklyn Dodger fan who'd posted this was asked a question as to whether or not that was the ame Bob Turley that pitched for the Yanks. He replied that it wasn't, and someone else posted their DOB and cities of birth:

My apologies to the dial-up users, since thes pix must take forever to load.
For the "Tarzan" pic of Lou earlier, my Brooklyn Dodger fan source gave this:
"Director, D. Ross Lederman, perhaps flubbed a chance for a gate bonanza when he chose not to cast Gehrig. Having undergone a screen test for Lederman's production of Tarzan's Revenge, Gehrig was passed over for the lead role in favor of Glenn Morris. A decathlon Gold Medalist during the 1936 Munich Olympic Games, Morris became the fourth Olympic athlete to portray Tarzan (Johnny Weissmuller, Buster Crabbe and Herman Brix preceded him). Incidentally, another Olympian—swimmer Eleanor Holm—was cast by Lederman as "Jane." Turns out that Morris' "Revenge" was enough; he was not to appear in another film, thus making his movie portfolio about as lengthy as Gehrig's".

Yeah, thanks. I must've been half-asleep, since he did play. My Brooklyn Dodger fan guy (who'd actually gone to Ebbets Field when he was a kid, lived around the corner from there) wrote this:
He's Leo Durocher, who played for the Yankees in 1925,28-29, as short stop, and second baseman, he also played for the Cards, and others, he was a .247 lifetime hitter, but a pretty good fielder. He became famous as a Manager, with the Brooklyn Dodgers who he Managed for 8 yrs, the New york Giants, 8 yrs., the Cubs, 7yrs., and the Houston Astro's for 2 yrs. HE got elected to the HOF in 1994, by the Veterans Committee. Leo was nicknamed " The Lip" because of his hot temper, he also believed that winning any way you can even if it means throwing at the other teams players heads was part of the game. If you want to know more go to Google, you will find plenty on his private life which in some cases is more interesting then his baseball career.

He's got a few from Jackie Robinson when he played in the Montreal minor league squad.

Clubhouse photo of the powerhouse Yankees taken by Life Magazine's Robert Kelly after clinching the 1961 pennant. Roger Maris (who in days would hit homers 60 and 61) is at left, reveling with Elston Howard, manager Ralph Houk, Ralph Terry and Yogi Berra. Notice the cigarettes in Maris' and Berra's hands, something that would be taboo today. What a handsome devil that Yogi was.

I got this from the Brooklyn Dodger fan:
In 1918 during World War I, Ruth, who was married by then, did not have to serve, but it was not unusual for him to help recruit for the Army, and aloud to wear a uniform.
Obviously, "aloud" should've been "allowed", but that's the info I have.

That yearbook picture -- I didn't even notice Mantle; the first guy I saw was Turley. They went to the same high school???
That's not Ruppert with McCarthy, but the late great Connie Mack.
And Ruth and Durocher famously didn't get along -- one of the reasons Durocher left the Yankees (or was shown the door, if you will) is because rumors have Ruth issuing an ultimatum, that he had to go, if I'm not mistaken. And It was a huge deal for Ruth to dislike someone -- he pretty much got along with everyone, even if no one could really get close with him. Carl Mays was another guy he didn't like -- but nobody liked Carl Mays, so maybe that's not saying much at all.

This confirms it's not the same Turley -- signature isn't even close:

And the fact that Turley went to high school in East St. Louis, Ill. (I googled it.) Really strange coincidence, though -- never thought it was that common a name.

DiMaggio and Mantle were never close. But because Mantle was assumed to be the next DiMaggio (hence the #6, to follow in the footsteps of famous #3, 4, and 5), they took an awful lot of publicity photos together -- and I'd imagine most (if not all) of the ones of the two of them in uniform were from 1951, which was Mantle's rookie season and DiMaggio's last.
However, Mantle always had a profound admiration and respect for Joe D, and (at least in later years) he'd never hesitate to let that be known. I believe he even mentioned it prominently on Mickey Mantle Day, which DiMaggio attended, in 1969. And he insisted that his plaque in Monument Park (or whatever they had in those days) be lower than DiMaggio's, because he always believed Joe D to be far and away the better ballplayer than he ever was or would be. For years, it looked as if the two plaques were the same height, but when Mickey's was taken down to erect a monument for him after he died, it was revealed that all these years Mickey's plaque had indeed been about an inch or so lower than Joe D's was, in deference to his wishes.

That was definitely Al Downing, and the Red Sox player with Mantle is Dick Gernert. He was a phenom with the Sox in the early 50's. He hit 19 and 21 homers as a semi-regular in '52 and '53

"Cobb returning to first on an attempted pick-off attempt. Although his back is to the camera, the left-handed first baseman should also be easily recognizable to most fans. Based upon the uniform style worn by Cobb, this photo dates to either the 1925 or 1926 season. The Yankees first baseman during that time was a young slugger by the name of Lou Gehrig, who took over for Wally Pipp on June 2, 1925".

Durcoher did become a decent hitter after leaving the Yankees and learning to hit the other way. Something he emphasized on his teams and why he had no use for Ernie Banks in the late 1960s. A pretty low person, suspended by two different commissioners, used to run crooked card games with the actor George Raft, once got a security guard to hold an abusive fans arms behinf his back while Durocher worked him over with brass knuckles. But very baseball-smart, always a great story teller.
These phots are great.Love them!! Thanks to those responsible.

(This one's my favorite -- simply because I didn't know such a photo existed -- how awesome is this!) Spring Training, 1962
Shigeo Nagashima hit 25 HR in 1962 and 444 in his career. Nagashima was probably the most popular player in the history of Japanese baseball..winning 5 MVPs, 10 Japan Series and 13 Pennants for the Yomuri Giants. Teammate Sadaharu Oh was almost certainly the better player but in race-conscious country like Japan the half-Korean Oh was not really taken to heart as the Japanese Nagashima. Nagashima was a right handed third baseman, Oh a left handed outfielder famous for raisng his right foot when hitting like a flamingo. Many people thought Oh's hitting style to be reminscent of HOF outfielder Mel Ott.

I thought they gave out watches back then. Or at least they did in 1928 -- maybe they mixed it up (or did both)?
BTW, from what year is that team photo? Based on who's in it, I can guestimate somewhere between 1926 and 1929, but do you know specifically?

Those are some incredible photos. Whats there not to like about Basball, especially the Yankees? I would of loved to grow up living around Yankee stadium during this era.
I am starting to collect Yankee games on DVD. I have very few on VHS that I am converting.
I tend to stay up all hrs. of the night to watch them. There is something about that stadium when the Yanks do something awesome and it just erupes in there.
Does anyone else have a collection.

"Old Reliable", "The Clutch", and also known as "5 O'Clock Lightning". Are there any other nicknames? This man is right behind Mickey Mantle in my own personal "Who's Who" list. A while back, I got his autograph on a 1941 team photo! What a great guy, and I saw his photo in the runway coming down from the press box to the dugout on our stadium tour Monday before last, right up there alongside all the other great Yankees. I have heard that he has had a stroke in the last year or two, and is now living in an "assisted care facility" somewhere north of Phoenix, AZ, but I hope this is not true. Are Henrich and Rizzuto the last living Yankees from the 1941 team?

Terrific thread... Early 1940 ? wire photo. Most know the Daig and Ed Barrow of course. The fellow in the center is vaguely familiar (entertainer, retired player). Can anyone identify him and the venue?
I've seen hundreds of photos of DiMaggio off-duty, but this shot is a first.
*The medallions appears to be a 'bad-luck' horseshoe with a horses head with bit and words engraved across top. I was initially thinking Billy Rose's Diamond Horseshoe, but no leads. There's also a faint, big headed fellow in background also, with a medallion.

Interesting. I just noticed that Bengough is in street clothes. Now I just have to figure out which season he injured his arm (which was just about every year) when they took the team picture.
I also noticed Bob Shawkey and Mike Gazella are in the photo, placing it 1928 or before. I *THINK* that's Sam Jones second from right in the back row, but not 100% sure, so it could be 1926.
Almost there, but not quite.

Check the signature in the bottom middle, from 1922.Whoever wrote the date is wrong. Gehrig was at Hartford in 1921 (as "Lou Lewis" for the Giants -- the discovery of which almost ruined his eligibility for collegiate athletics) and in parts of 1923 and 1924, after he'd signed with the Yankees. I'd be willing to wager it was from one of the latter two years, simply because he was only there a couple weeks in 1921, and I don't think he would've posed in the team picture if he was supposed to be playing incognito.
Interesting how only half the caps have "H"'s on them. And the guy sitting extreme right resembles George Pipgras a bit; I wonder if it's him. Somewhere there's gotta be a list identifying all the guys in the photo.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c327/oche16/r313-1.jpg?t=1197851000Hmm... well, if that really is Hank Erickson (the only contemporary Erickson I could find who played catcher), it would have to be 1935,as that was his only major league season -- but DiMaggio wasn't a Yankee until 1936, and Erickson was in Louisville in 1934 (which is a long way from the PCL), so my guess is that either isn't Erickson or isn't DiMaggio. And since I'm having trouble finding any instance of DiMaggio wearing 18, I'm guessing it isn't DiMag. Pitcher Johnny Allen (who was also righthanded) wore 18 in 1935, according to YankeeNumbers.com, so it could be him, possibly.
The lack of pinstripes on a white uniform confuses me, though, so it may not even be a Yankee. (I'd say it was just the lighting, that it could be their road grays, but the catcher's uniform seems to be even darker.)

'I could find no catcher in the PCL, 1934-1936, named Erickson.
Hank Erickson caught in 25 games for the Cincinnati Reds in 1935.
My old ragged Beckett's Alhpabetical list has one card for Hank Erickson, an R314, which is the 1936 Goudey wide pens.
Looks like there is now a "fine pen" R313, too.'
'... spring training, uniform shuffling (which was a common practice with Prospects), interleague, Florida. And Erickson played only one season.
So now I want to find a worn R313 like that one. There's much more going on with that card other than it being DiMaggio.'
-Some more nuggets,
~It is conceivable that now being Property of the 1934 NYY (in absentia), he attended camp/exhibition in the Spring of '35.
*November 21, 1934: Traded by the San Francisco (PCL) to the New York Yankees for players to be named later and cash. Doc Farrell refused to report to his new team on 1935. The New York Yankees sent Doc Farrell (December 19, 1934), Floyd Newkirk (December 19, 1934), Jim Densmore (minors) (December 19, 1934), Ted Norbert (minors) (December 19, 1934), and $5,000 (1935) to the San Francisco (PCL) to complete the trade.
~Cinci held camp across the bay in Tampa.
~Further digging revealed, Although Joe was sold by SF to the Yankees, the contract required the Dago to remain with the PCL one more season before shipping over. (He was a superstar and huge draw for the Seals);
'... He played well during 1935 under the legendary manager Lefty O'Doul, and hit .398 with 154 RBIs, 34 home runs and 173 runs scored. But the Seals' management, which wanted to sell his contract in 1934 for $100,000, settled for $25,000 and the services of five other ball players, when he went to the Yankees for the 1936 season.' *Museum of SF*
Incidentally, In 1935, the Yankees and Braves (NL) both held S/tng in St Pete and held interleague games as well. One wonders if this closeness may have facilitated Babe's _ceremonial_ move back to Beantown for his final season and last ditch efforts to fill the seats at Nickerson Field. But this story for another post.

Interesting. I didn't realize JoeD was Yankee property in '35; I always thought the trade happened the following offseason. Could've been the case certainly, but doubtful; I think most accounts talk about his driving cross country with Lazzeri and Crosetti (I think that's who it was) make it seem like it was his first trip out east, period. I don't know. I might just have to poke around some of the old newspapers online and see what I come up with.

Penguin, I appreciate the link to the jerseys. Steve, BostonI know there's a photo floating around of Ruth in a Braves uniform and Gehrig in a Yankees uniform from that spring training. Babe looks old and sour, and Lou looks like he's trying to hold back his discontent of them having to pose together again. I guess you could say that was at the height of their feud.
And you're welcome! I'm always up for playing photo detective. If you're really curious, I could pass this onto the SABR-Listserv and let those people have a crack at it.

Another theory on the DiMaggio/Erickson photo:
Hank Erickson played only one season (1935) with the Cincinnati Reds. He had at least two catchers ahead of him in that organization (Ernie Lombardi and Gilly Campbell). He was only 28 years old in 1935, so there is no reason that he could not have been in Cincinnati Reds spring camp in 1936, but failed to survive the cut.
DiMaggio started the 1936 season wearing uniform #9. Baseball Almanac shows that Catcher Art Jorgens wore uniform #9 in 1935 and returned to the Yankees in 1936. His uniform number in 1936, however, was #18.
It is therefore quite possible that the photo is from Spring Training 1936, and DiMaggio swapped numbers with Jorgens sometime before Opening Day.

That does indeed seem very plausible. I checked NewspaperArchive.com (to which I have a subscription--one of my best investments, ever), and you were right on one thing, in that Erickson did go to Spring Training with the Reds:
ERICKSON LOOKS O.K.
TAMPA-- Paul Derringer was booked to pitch for the Reds against the Phillies today and he may be allowed to go the full route. Charley Dressen was confident he had developed Hank Erickson into a real switch-hitter. Hank lost a finger joint in an automobile accident at Louisville last summer but it doesn't seem to hamper his switch-hitting ability.
Apparently he was competing with three other guys that spring for the backup job behind Lombardi. I guess the injury couldn't've helped. He was opted to Toronto at the end of Spring Training, on April 3... which is weird because on March 30 wire reports said he would be "chief understudy" to Lombardi. Either someone got it wrong or something changed in those four days that wasn't reported.
I'll do some more digging on DiMaggio later. This is interesting stuff.

In Ruth's day the visiting dugout was on the firstbase side, so that much would be consistent.

This one's got me confused... it's captioned "George McConnell" and dated 1913, when he would've been on the Yankees. He also played for the Cubs and the Whales (Chicago's team in the Federal League) in his career, according to baseball-reference. Full names are mostly lacking from this photo, other than Bert Daniels, second from right. "C. Hoff" I recognize as Chet "Red" Hoff (who appeared around age 100+ -- literally -- in the Ken Burns documentary), and I presume "G. Simmons" is George "Hack" Simmons. (Don't know who "E. Bergen" or "Z. Erhard" are.) I date this photo to about 1912, because that was the only time these three guys were all on the same major league ballclub together (the Yankees/Highlanders).

Regarding the photo (Z. Erhard-C. Hoff-G. Simmons-Bert Daniels-E. Bergen):
The March 12, 1912, edition of the New York Times ran a story titled "Yankee Youngsters Start for Atlanta", which detailed the departure of spring training hopefuls from Pennsylvania Station the previous day. According to the story, the prospects were so shy that photographers were thwarted in their attempts to record the event. (Apparently somebody did).
Zachary Erhard was something of a schoolboy legend in NYC at the time, having won the interscholastic batting title while captain of the High School of Commerce baseball team in 1910. In 1911, he played in some exhibitions with the Highlanders and impressed Captain Hal Chase enough to warrant his invitation to spring camp in 1912.
George Simmons is identified as the probable successor to J. Earle Gardner at second base (whose performance had been hampered by illness). It cites Simmons' previous MLB experience with Detroit. As noted, he was routinely known as "Hack" Simmons.
Chester Hoff and Ed Bergen are identified as "the youthful Yonkers battery".
Finally, the story states that "(t)he only regular in the party was outfielder Bert Daniels".
That photo labeled herzog looks like a young Art Fletcher...

And I'm pretty sure that's Mickey Cochrane seated far left. The rest I might need some help from the experts...

The guy standing next to the Babe in the scene from "Pride of the Yankees" is Frank Faylen, a fairly well known character actor to those of us from the Joe D. and Mickey Mantle generations. His best known roles were Ernie the Cab Driver in "It's a Wonderful Life" in the '40s, and on TV in the '50s as Herbert T. Gillis, the long-suffering father in "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis".

I must be misremembering (ugh, I hate how that word carries such baggage these days on baseball boards:mad: ), but I feel like I recall Babe calling him "Bob" at one point in the movie. Now it makes sense why he doesn't look a thing like Meusel. (But then "Mark" doesn't look like Koenig, either, IIRC, so I figured Hollywood must change peoples' appearances.)

Look at poor old Cy Young. All those games he pitched must have really took a lot out of him! I realize he's in his late eighty's in age - but at one time he was around the same height as Dazzy Vance ... which was maybe right near six foot two. Sad that a year later after this photo was taken, Cy would be gone. In less than five years - he'd be joined by Hooks - then Walsh. :(
Ages in photo: Reynolds is just 37. Hooks is 75. Walsh is 73 - and looks very good to me. Hubbell is still just 52. Cy is 87. Vance is 63.

I guess you shrink a little with age, and also it looks like he's bending his knees a little bit, maybe the camera angles played a part, too. But it's weird. It doesn't even look much like him (but I guess no one looks much like themselves at 87, particularly in those days.) He also was pretty husky towards the end of his career, as well, I'm pretty sure.

I found 19 photos on eBay recently that were being auctioned off from the major leaguers' barnstorming trip to Japan in the "early 1930's", which I presume is 1934. Most of them are far shots of players batting and such where you can't really see who's who, but there were a couple good dugout shots, and several more where you can definitely recognize some guys. I've posted some of the better ones (though still trying to figure out what's up with that field):

Because of the bunting hanging in the background, you would have to think that this was an Opening Day at Yankee Stadium. The Red Sox were the Opening Day opponents in 1931 and 1933.
However, Dale Alexander did not play for the Red Sox until mid-1932. He batted .372 in 101 games for the Red Sox in 1932 after his trade from the Tigers.
Alexander and Smead Jolley were the only players on that Red Sox team who would have been comparable, height-wise, to Ruth and Gehrig. Jolley was also traded to the Red Sox during the 1932 season. The player between Ruth and Gehrig is almost certainly Jolley, based upon photos of Jolley on other web sites.

Perhaps the HOF Uniform database is off, and more than one uniform was used in a given season than was listed. I was going by the length of the Yankees' sleeves, which were long like that until 1932, and then came to the elbow afterwards. The guy on the right does kind of look like Alexander, too, going by his portrait, so you could be right and maybe it really is OD 1933:

I was browsing in Barnes & Noble the other day through a new bio about Dahlgren written by his grandson (Rumor In Town by Matt Dahlgren), chock full of photos I'd never seen. Gehrig was apparently Dahlgren's idol (I guess what first baseman didn't idolize Gehrig in the '30s?) and that particular photo is in there with a caption like, "A day neither man wanted to see..." Apparently Dahlgren kept coming up to Gehrig between innings that game telling him to he should go into the game or his streak would end, and Gehrig kept gently encouraging him to get out there, the position was his that day. The odd angle of the photo makes me believe this was one of those candid moments (and not posed); and the realness of the gesture makes the photo all that more poignant.

Here's a thought-provoking photo of the 1914 Yankees. The players are identified by Roger Peckinpaugh himself:
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c25/penguin4/1914_Yanks.jpg
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c25/penguin4/1914_Yanks_Back.jpg
"Writes Peckinpaugh on the photo's reverse: "Top Row: Barrett, [Roy] Caldwell, [Bill] Reynolds, [Harry] Williams, [Jay] Rogers, [King] Cole. Bottom Row: McBeth, [Fritz] Maisel, Yours Truly Peckinpaugh."
"Another previous owner has added, 'Galveston, TX,' which was the Yankees' Spring Training home that year.
"While Peckinpaugh may be the biggest star identified on the picture -- spending nine years with the Yankees and five with the Senators developing into the best shortstop in the league -- another figure in the photo potentially is more interesting.
"The individual in the front row, seated all the way on the left poses an intriguing possibility -- is he future Yankees manager, Joe McCarthy? This player is identified by Peckinpaugh as "McBeth" on the reverse, yet no such player ever played for the team. Moreover, the facial similarity to the future Cubs and Yankees manager is striking.
"However, the most interesting evidence comes in the form of a trade that never was. McCarthy was the property of the Buffalo ballclub, whose President, Ed Barrow (future Yankee executive) attempted to trade him to New York in 1915. At the last minute the trade to NY was nixed and Joe jumped to the Federal League, instead.
"So the big question remains -- is this figure in the front row a young Joe McCarthy spending a Spring Training afternoon with his would-be teammates? Or is this look-alike simply a non-roster Yankee hopeful named McBeth who never found his way onto any big league team?"

I'm puzzled. Ten guys and nine names? Is Roger Peckinpaugh the third or fourth guy in the bottom of the picture?
Are you sure it's Peckinpaugh that wrote this ... or is Peckinpaugh just being identified as the fourth guy on the bottom? Maybe "Yours Truly" is some other Yankee player this has not identified himself because the person receiving the photo already knows who "Yours Truly" is?

Maybe the person who wrote that up is wrong. I'm not familiar enough with the 1914 Yankees to identify anyone, but you should poke around that site (a lot of other really great pictures there!) and e-mail them what you think because there's a lot of other so-called "mysteries" there (who certain players are, how certain players ended up in certain uniforms, that sort of thing).
Here's Maisel (definitely looks like the second guy in the photo):

Hey, Tara. Are you sure you really want this Red Sox fan to get involved with this Yankee picture? First off, I feel your year-end manager is the fourth man on the bottom right. I also believe the "Your's Truly" guy is Frank Chance - the guy that managed the Yanks at the beginning of the year.
Did you look up the name McBeth by chance? He looks like a Massachusetts born bean-eater if you ask me! :) Maybe I should capitalize what I just said. ;)
Do you know anything about the first guy on the left top row? I think that Lou Gehrig probably did at a later date. Have any idea who Barrett is?

I don't think it'd be Buck Freeman (who was retired for several years by the time this picture was taken).
[EDIT: And even if you didn't mean Freeman, I just looked at the entire 1903 Sox roster, and only one player (the ageless Nick Altrock) was still playing major league ball in 1914. So I doubt it's whoever you think it is.]

I know that you'll supposedly find "coach" Ferrell skipped over for 1914 ... but I dont really think so. Charlie Barrett, top left, was a long time trainer for New York. He later took a job at Columbia (maybe 1921) ... which is why I mentioned Lou Gehrig knowing of the guy.

This is the only photo I can find of MacBeth:

WHO he is in the photo is a little unclear, though, as here's what the caption reads:

So either he's the guy third from right, or that's the aforementioned "guy in the derby", in which case he'd be the heavy-set guy with his legs crossed. The latter might have potential... it's the same hat, at least...
And I wish there were a better way to Google Joe McCarthy without pictures of that damn senator popping up (even when I write "and baseball")! There's gotta be a minor league photo of him floating around here somewhere.

Were you living out of town in 1978? The Yankees were home, in 1979, on that June date. I wouldn't blame you for wanting that ticket stub from 1978 though. Guidry was 9-0 at games end and Jackson up to 323 career home runs with his two from the game.
