Starting tonight after the final of the March Madness game, the 2005 NFL Mock Draft will start...

Your choice can be either who you would pick, who you think the team will pick, or a combination of the two. I have the draft list, teams, and users listed below. As the picks go down I will add them to the list. Feel free to discuss your pick and or question the pick. (But Be friendly :D) Do to logistics we will not be allowing any trades. We can continue this into the second round if the interest is strong. Those of you who have teams try to drop by often so you can make your pick in a timely fashion. If we don't get a pick after a 24hr period we will need to pick for you. When I'm at work there will be a few hours between updates. Most of all, have fun!

Pete your on the clock...if you wont be around tonight feel free to PM me with your pick and I'll post it right after the NCAA Final...

Well, here goes.

I think the 49ers would love to trade out of the No. 1 spot and get some extra picks, since there's no clear franchsie player this year and because they have so many needs. But I doubt they'll get any takers.

I suspect they'll take one of the two QBs, Rodgers or Smith. But since I don't believe either of them are worthy of being the No. 1 overall pick, I'm going in a different direction. I'm going with a player who I think is going to be a certifed star in the NFL.

With the 1st pick in the 2005 NYYFANS.com Mock Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select:

Michigan WR Braylon Edwards

This should be fun

Pete I like the strategy of picking the more surefire if you are undecided about the QBs.

But that should put a big twist on the whole draft.

What if someone takes your pick, but you think they're wrong about it--can you also take that pick as a reflection of what you think will be the reality at your given spot?

I'm not sold on the QB's either and we need a running back to keep defenses honest. All along the choice was between the two Auburn RB's as we don't need no stinking dread-locked Texas RB's (even if Cedric shaved his locks...)With the second pick in the 2005 NNYFans Mock Draft the Dolphins take

Cleveland really could use a MLB like Derrick Johnson, but going into the season with possibly Trent Dilfer as your starting QB would be too scary to comprehend. With the second pick in the 2005 NNYFans Mock Draft the Browns take....

Now say in the next week or more someone is traded for a draft pick or someone swaps picks with another team in the draft, will we change this draft or just keep it like this?

Seeing as how Chicago's probable pick is already off the board (Braylon Edwards #1??? WOW, just wow.), this changes my whole draft strategy. It comes down to 2 players: the best WR on the board, Mike Williams, and the best overall player on the board, Derrick Johnson. Thomas Jones and Rex Grossman are okay and deserve another chance to play this year, so there's no real need at RB or QB. Between the 2 picks I mentioned, I think Lovie Smith would stick to his defensive roots, thus handing Tags a card that reads:

"With the fourth pick on the 2005 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select
Derrick Johnson, LB from the University of Texas."

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on the clock...

I don't see any trades too much before draft day at this point. If a trade were to go down before a pick by our users we can probably do it also...

Sorry to hold things up. I got called to San Diego for business yesterday on short notice, then when I got home, the site wouldn't let me log on after Derek's walk off HR.

Anyway, the Bucs need offensive production. Brown is taken, and fortunatly, our next choice was passed by the niners. We feel that Edwards dropped alot of big catches, so we will happily take, Mike Williams.

Besides we love recievers from USC. ;)

Yeah, I know, a lot of people will think Johnson is a slight reach at 4. Hell, I even think it's a reach. But there weren't many other "impact" players available at the Bears' needs, other than CB. Between WR and DEF, I figured that WR was a deeper position and they would still be able to get talent in the 2nd Round, so I went with the best talent on the board where they could add another playmaker next to Urlacher..

Having said all that, there is no doubt in my mind that the Bears will take Braylon Edwards. Rodgers, Brown, and Smith will go 1, 2, 3, leaving Braylon at #4. I see Mike Williams as a better fit in Minnesota,

First, I really wanted Minn. to get either WR's Williams or Edwards since thats a glaring need since the Moss trade. And as much as I'd like to grab Mark Clayton, that would be grabbing him way too high for a number 7 pick. Maybe he will still be around when Minn. picks at #18...

So, at this time I feel that Minn. must go for best quality. And add the fact that their running game could use a #1 type runner, Minnasota chooses:

I do believe it's my turn.

I know a thing or two about RBs who aren't as fast as others having success in the NFL. ;)

This guy also has the added dimension of being a good blocker, a guy who I've enjoyed watching the past few years.

With the 8th pick in the draft, the Arizona Cardinals, addressing probably their single biggest need, select

Cedric Benson, RB Texas

(I actually agree with Mel on this pick. Whether they draft Benson or trade for Henry, provided the QB situation is reasonably solid with Warner, the Cards' offense is beginning to border on wicked good, at least on paper. The tight end situation is still dubious, though.)

It all starts with defense.

We have to get help at CB. The loss of Smoot hurts far more than Bailey did last year. My first choice is Antrel Rolle. Obviously that's not going to happen. I wouldn't be surprised if Cleveland picked him with the third pick.

I'll go with my second choice, Pac-Man Jones, CB West Virginia .

Ron Brown is definitely the better NFL prospect between the two, but I think Cadillac will fit in nicely in Tampa. Their RB situation is absolutely brutal right now, and like I said, Gruden fell in love with him at the Senior Bowl. I'll be very surprised if Chucky doesn't take him, leaving Mike Williams for the Viqueens.

They released Jurivicious, and have never really replaced Keyshon.

I think that having a different opimion than Gruden on personell might be a good thing. His only success has been with teams that were constructed by others.

Half the stuff I read has Shawne Merriman being gone by #11, half the stuff has the Cowboys taking him.

Like I told the Diesel, I'm not convinced the Cowboys will be making the move to the 3-4 for which everyone says Merriman would be so great... but still, with the release of Coakley, we have two veterans in Nguyen and Singleton, and a few young guys that Tuna really likes but are still unproven in James and Shanle--meaning, another LB wouldn't be a bad thing by any means, but I still have a hard time seeing it as a 1st round priority.

I think I, personally, would be happier with the Williamson (WR) and Spears (DE) first round duo that people have us picking at 11 and 20, respectively, as I think those are positions of greater need. However, I think once the draft is over, the Saints will lose a lot of their leverage being unable to receive immediate draft-pick compensation, and the trade for Howard could maybe happen more easily, filling our need at DE that way. Or, I also read Shawne Merriman can play end in a 4-3 scheme. Whoever it is, I think we need to come out of the first round with a DE, if not trade for one. As many, including myself and Diesel, believe, the odds of us coming out of the first round having made two picks are slim--bet we'll trade for more picks this year or next.

HowEVuh, since Merriman is still around in this particular draft, and because it is believed he can also play end, I feel obliged to take him, despite the fact that I'm uncomfortable agreeing with Mel Kiper.

Without further ado, with the 11th pick in the draft, THE Dallas Cowboys select

Shawne Merriman, OLB/DE Maryland

P.S. This pick would also be doing the young man a favor, as I've read he has expressed a scummy interest in wanting to be drafted by those ne'er-do-wells in Washington so he can stay in Maryland. SAVE THE CHILDREN.

I get the feeling that the Chargers will either trade up to get Braylon Edwards or end up with Merriman. With both of those options gone for me, I'll take Troy Williamson instead. I like the blend of size and speed and with McCardell, Caldwell and Parker around they'll be able to give him time to develop.

Whoever picks Mark Clayton is getting a heck of a deal though.

Natalie, Merriman could go as high as #2. Miami and Cleveland both are switching to the 3-4 and Merriman is the top 3-4 OLB in this draft. Moreover, the Browns and Fins have defensive-minded coaches. As one NFL scout said (http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/8365275) there's really no difference between 3 and 30 in this draft.

Sorry for the hold up folks. I know the Texans really want Alex Barron, but unless they make a move there's no way they'll get him. So the Texans pick Khalif Barnes , OT Washington. He's a risk because of questionable work ethic, but they've got to do something to protect David Carr.

I think Brown might be less risk, but for some damn reason Texans have shown alot of interest Barnes. Also Barnes already plays LOT, and they have a serious need for one, sometimes players can't make the switch. Overall, we both agree the Texans desperately need O line help. David Carr can tell you what the roof of every dome stadium looks like from memory, and he'll lose that memory of his unless he gets some protection. :)

Natalie and I have already discussed this, and I think it's no secret that JJ & Tuna will probably trade this pick.
How-EV-ah....

Dallas still has 3 HUGE needs -- WR, DB, and D-Line. And I find it very interesting that three names that should be at the top of Dallas' draft board are all available here: Marcus Spears, DE LSU; Carlos Rogers, CB Auburn; and Mark Clayton, WR Oklahoma. Clayton looks like he'll have a nice career, but he's not a real speed guy, and the 'Boys already have Me-shawn & Sherry Glenn. I'd rather see them take a shot at Roddy White or even Matt Jones in the 2nd Round.

Between Spears and Rogers, I would go Rogers, especially if Merriman is taken at #11. He's another shutdown-type corner to pair with Terence Newman and the man who took out TO, Roy Williams. NICE.
But like I said earlier, this pick will be traded, and Dallas will move down in the 1st while picking up a 2nd or 3rd for this year. Someone will be desperate enough to move up for "their guy", and there is lots of talent still available.

With the 20th pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select:
Carlos Rogers, CB Auburn.

BTW It would be a shame if Clayton were to fall this far. His size is viewed as a negative. However, with the point of emphasis rules protecting recievers, and tha fact that he's the most polished and refined WR in this draft, Clayton should step in an contribute immediately.

Well, where the eff do I start? Since my Pack has NO defense to speak of, I have to start there. The DL sucks; the LB corps suck; and the DBs are completely worthless especially now that we lost Darren Sharper. I sometimes think my fat, lazy, unskilled ass could complete a bunch of passes against these guys.
The offense is still one of the league's best, led by #4, who even on his worst day remains light years ahead of Concussion Boy.

Right now, only KGB poses ANY threat to opposing QBs. With that said, I'm going with Demarcus Ware DE, Troy State. It's my niece's Alma Mater, too so that's a bonus. Even if he is switched to LB, he would make an immediate impact there. Hell, he would probably make an impact at DB on my worthless, Crackboy-like Defense.

The recent insanity perpetrated by the Bronco's head coach/gm, Mr. Shanahan, has, however threatenend my normally gregarious ways. For those who care, Mr. Mike has become enamored of the Cleveland Brown's defense of two years ago. So great is his respect for the 2002 Brownies, that he has added thier entire defensive line (Gerard Warren, Courtney Brown, Ebenezer Ekuban and Michael Myers) to our roster.

Just when we thought that Mr. Mike might finally hit the golf course, he attempts to make up for losing thousand yard rusher Ruben Droughns in one of the trades above by signing the infamous living proof that one can indeed eat one's signing bonus, Ron Dane. I don't follow football as closely as I follow baseball, but even I know that every member of NYYFans.com had as many carries in the NFL as Mr. Dane did in 2003. He did, however make a strong comeback in '04 with a solid 52 carries. :upset: :-ponder-: :thatsodd:

All of this leads us to the 2005 draft after making many pre-draft moves that IMO addressed none of our needs.

We are most deficient at DL, CB, and Wide Reciever.

Fortunatly, this draft is deep in two of those areas, and we have a strong chance of getting someone who can contribute.

I am focusing on DE. With Merriman, and Ware gone. We are left with:

Marcus Spears, LSU - I like
Dan Cody, Oklahoma -His clinical depression could fit right in in Denver by November if this team sucks as much as I fear.
Matt Roth, Iowa - I like
David Pollack, Georgia - Good Workouts
Justin Tuck*, Notre Dame - No Domers for us!

But, in the spirit of our recent (they are stupidly risky, but if all the chips fall into place we could be great) moves, The Denver Broncos will take Erasmus James from Wisconsin with the 23rd pick.

He would have been a top five pick if not for the injury, and he fits right in with our culture of "We will no longer be a mediocre 9 win wildcard team. We are either going to be great, or give the 49ers competition at the bottom. "

See you in Detroit!

In the first round I've been giving about 24 hrs for someone to get a pick in, (and I didn't have to go the limit) but since the real NFL draft is getting close we will give 12 hrs for someone to get a pick in for the 2nd round...at that point I will ask for volunteers to draft for the missing pick. So drop by often when your pick is getting close...thanks

I'm happy that we'll be doing a second round. There are lots of interesting choices at WR and CB as both of those positions are deep, and are the Donkey's biggest needs along with DE.

I do a little digging, and I'll keep Tampa.

As for the 12hr rule. No problem, but I don't check in much on weekends. If I'm close, I'll leave some picks in a PM to Mark if that is OK. :)

LSU DE Marcus Spears

He's a natural 3-4 DE that played that position in LSU. He'll go higher than 28 IMO.I agree, and in all honesty, if I was Pat Bowlen, and i was spending my own money, I would have taken Spears or Roth over James for the Broncos. Since this is for fun, I rolled the dice with James, whose upside, IMO, is higher, but a good GM (who is concerned with downside risk) has to like Spears.

Interesting. Hodge has the physical tools: speed, size that teams look for, but he's raw and hasn't looked good on film. However, when you play opposite Antrel Rolle, you're going to see a lot of balls thrown your way. For that reason he just me be a better player in the pros then he was in college.

The Tampa Bay Bucs are going to score more points in 2005. Having used our #1 pick on Mike Williams, we feel that we will be fielding one of the top tandems (with Clayton) at WR in our division.

We wanted to use this pick to shore up the running back position, but the only RB we loved after Brown, Williams, and Benson was taken by Cleveland. We think that Fason was a great pick at this point iin the draft, and we were counting on him being available.

We don't dislike the other top prospects at the RB position, but neither do we feel that any of the next group (Morrency, Barber, Shelton, Arrington) really stand out, and we're certain to be able to pick up a member of this serviceable but unspectacular foursome next round.

So, we need to score, and we think we have a handle on improving our chances of doing so through the air, and on the ground. What's next. Well, the last we heard, there were three ways to score in the NFL, and we've only covered two.

The Tampa Bay Bucs take Mike Nugent , Kicker from The Ohio State University.

We remember what it was like to have a great clutch kicker (Gramitica), and Mr. Gruden was involved when the Raiders took a kicker in the first round. We'll win games with this pick.

Main needs are LB, DE, S, and CB...a lot will depend if Woodson gets traded...

Raiders lost Harris in the Moss trade and the Raiders look like they might be moving back to the 4-3 vs 3-4. Some of the LB's fit those schemes better that others...

So with all that said the Oakland Raiders take Darryl Blackstock, OLB, Virginia

After a one day intermission, the draft will begin again.

The Tuna has announced that since the defense was piss-poor and downright awful last year, we will be spending yet another pick on defense (after going Merriman/Rogers in the 1st). In fact, it is absolutely ridiculous that this guy is still on the board. We may have missed out on Matt Jones (stupid Chicago GM), but we will not miss out on this guy, one of the most prolific lineman in NCAA history. He may be slightly undersized, but his work ethic and performance are unmatched. Sooooo.....

Odell Thurman ILB
Georgia

Edit: I might live in Atlanta, but I am not a Georgia fan. The Chiefs need a couple hard hitters and Davis and Thurman are their guys.

After selecting Thurman, this news came to the Chiefs front office attention:

Just days from this weekend's NFL draft, former Georgia middle linebacker Odell Thurman and his Atlanta-based agent, Safarrah Lawson, have been dispelling reports and rumors that Thurman was arrested or involved in a bar fight in Athens, April 10, in which two current players were arrested.
"The stuff that is going around is a complete lie," Thurman said Monday. "I want it made clear that I was not involved, I wasn't there and I had nothing to do with it, period. I have not had any dealings with the police, not even a conversation with them. Here it is, six or seven days before the draft and this stuff is out there. It's a whole bunch of bull."

With this extra pick you would think that the raiders should go CB all the way with Buchcannon gone in the trade, but I don't see any can't miss have to have CB's on the board, that can't be addressed in the 3rd round. I could even see Al going QB here and getting Charlie Frye, but I want the Raider to have a great LB group...so with their 2nd second round pick the Raiders take:

Florida ILB Channing Crowder

Yeah great show, security was a little too over the top though. Couldn't walk 10 feet without a security guard or cop in your face.

Didn't think that this was worthy of its ownn thread like the Jets deal, but the Broncos sent their no.1 to the Skins. I like it because, for whatever reason, Sannahan seems to find guys who can play in later rounds and nothing but flops in the first.

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Hours after declaring they wouldn't trade their ninth overall selection in Saturday's NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins acquired another first-round spot, the 25th overall, from Denver on Tuesday.
The Broncos received the Redskins' third-round choice (76th overall) this year, plus Washington's first-rounder and fourth-rounder in 2006.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/2005draft/2005-04-19-redskins-broncos-deal_x.htm

Hopefully, by the time we're using the '06 first round pick, someone else will be making the Broncos' picks. :D

I haven't had much time to look at anything. (strange work schedule) So, I'm just gonna go along the TSN's Warroom and take QB Charlie Frye, Akron. Apparently, the Pack thinks they can groom him to replace one of the very greatest QBs in NFL History. (I don't even want to think about Brett retiring. I may buy a flag pole to put in front of my house just so I can put the flag at half staff when Brett retires.)

I'll try, Bro. I just came home from work early. I was up ALL night suffering from yet another flare-up of Trish & Boomer Disease :( (The pain is too bad to even give a decent smilie) Plus, the Indocin (EFF Merck!!) is giving my big, fat belly a horrible ache.
If I'm not around, I'd appreciate a CB/FS/SS. Hell, draft Ronnie Lott. The man can still probably deliver a helluva shot, & he's still better than any of the pieces of feces currently in our DB.

Thanks.

Sorry Folks, I was in horrible traffic all day. I had to go to two Appts in the OC, which means the 5 freeway, a drive that will straighten your ass out if your on the wrong path in life because I'm pretty sure that hell is very similar.

The Broncos are going to take Eddie Jackson WR from West Virginia.

He's not fast, but Jake can't throw that far anyway, so what is the point of getting deep. He is big 6-4, 223 so there is a chance that Jake might find him as he's avoiding all the rushers that our line lets through. We also feel that he was undercoached at WVU, and because of that, has significant upside that has not been reached (at least that is what we'll say at the presser 'cause he really didn't put up numbers in college). Oh Yeah, we really need a WR.

Once again, my apologies.

Maybe his numbers weren't there or something. Strange.
